Thank you to Nature Niños New Mexico for this FREE sapling giveaway Friday, April 29, 2022, as a way to celebrate Arbor Day.
Here are the details: The free tiny trees will be available from 7 a.m. to noon Friday – or until they are gone – at two locations. They are Cutbow Coffee, 1208 Rio Grande Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, and Los Ranchos Bakery, 6920 Fourth St. SW Albuquerque.
There is a limit of one sapling for each family.
Nature Ninos New Mexico, New Mexico Wildlife Federation and the ASLA Honey Badger Conservation Crew are setting up shop at the two local businesses to give away the saplings to honor this American holiday.
Each family will be allowed to take one sapling and the organizations encourage you to plant your sapling in your yard, your friends’ yard (with their permission, of course) or in a favorite nature space. All saplings are native New Mexico trees that thrive in the altitudes of the Albuquerque/Rio Rancho area.
Nature Niños is an initiative formed in 2019 by the New Mexico Wildlife Federation. Nature Niños is focused on helping young people of all ages enjoy and appreciate the outdoors.

The celebration of Arbor Day reaches back to the Nebraskan frontier of 1872. Newly arriving pioneers longed for the shelter, utility and beauty of trees that surrounded them back home. The Nebraska governor proclaimed the day in April, and over the decades other states followed. By 1920, more than 45 states and territories celebrated the special day, according to the Arbor Day Foundation.
Today, Arbor Day is marked in all 50 states – most often on the last Friday in April, which is known as National Arbor Day. What a wonderful way to welcome spring!
