Juneteenth is the historical commemoration of the liberation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. It is celebrated across the country on June 19 and is a federal holiday. In 2020, Albuquerque declared Juneteenth a city holiday.
Juneteenth Celebration in Rio Rancho
Please join the City of Rio Rancho and the NAACP Rio Rancho Northwest Mesa Branch for Rio Rancho’s inaugural Juneteenth Freedom Day celebration on Friday, June 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Campus Park at City Center. The event is subject to weather. Admission is FREE. Parking is available on a first come, first served basis. Blankets, umbrellas, and coolers are permitted at the park. Food vendors will be on-site. No glass, outside alcoholic beverages, or individual grills will be allowed. Live music starts at 5:30 p.m. Visitors can access City Center via Unser Boulevard/King Boulevard and Paseo del Volcan/Broadmoor Boulevard.
Downtown Juneteenth Celebration
2022 Juneteenth will be celebrated on Civic Plaza at 2 Civic Plaza in Albuquerque with a two-day FREE event. It will be Saturday, June 18, from noon to 10:30 pm and Sunday, June 19, from 3 till 8 pm.
Celebrate and empower our community to appreciate the wonders of our uniqueness. The event planners are working to educate and focus on how to change the narrative about Black history and Black stereotypes. For more details visit 2022 Juneteenth (visitalbuquerque.org)

Juneteenth All White Affair
On June 18, enjoy Albuquerque’s First Juneteenth All White Affair at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Albuquerque 1000 Woodward Pl. N.E. Participants can wear semi casual, casual, or semi-formal, white clothing (not including shoes, bags, belts, and hats). Enjoy entertainment, dinner and dancing.
All purchased tickets are automatically entered in a prize drawing, and a portion of the night’s proceeds will benefit a local homeless shelter.
Guests can choose their dinner option at time of ticket purchase. (Caribbean barbecue chicken, Caribbean style fish (cod), or Caribbean vegetarian). The event is presented by Brewster Production and runs from 5:30pm until midnight at the Embassy Suites Hotel. Tickets cost $50 for this 21 and over gala. All are welcome.
