If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to ABQ on the Cheap's RSS feed or email digests. Thanks for visiting!

They’ve been talking it up for a while, and now it’s here! Free Wi-Fi at Starbucks starts Thursday July 1, 2010, giving unlimited surfing access while you sip your Frappucino.

Previously Wi-Fi was only available to members of the My Starbucks Rewards program, with a limit of 2 hours a day. Now free wireless internet access is open to all, with no time limit. (Although really, how long can one person sit in a Starbucks? That coffee makes it impossible for me to stay still for long.)

You don’t need a username or password, just log on in one click via the service offered in partnership with AT&T, and Starbucks turns the Free Wi-Fi on at company owned and operated stores only.

You will of course have to bring your own Wi-Fi enabled laptop, phone, or other device. We can dream, but let’s be realistic here…

Thanks to reader Lisa for sharing these tips!

The Balloon Museum has some ongoing freebies of interest to parents and, well, just anyone who wants to enjoy the museum and its beautiful environs!

  • Story time: every Wednesday morning, starting at 9:30am. Admission for everyone is FREE, and story time is FREE for kids up to age 6. A new book and activity each week. Plus, once you’re in…you’re in. Enjoy the whole museum — on the house! Great for homeschoolers.
  • Free admission days: Sundays from 9:00am – 1:00pm and all day on Fridays the FIRST Friday of each month.
  • Free wi-fi: yes, the Balloon Museum is a wireless hotspot! You can’t beat it for an office-away-from-the-office. Take advantage of the free admission, get a cuppa and a snack from the cafe, and enjoy the fabulous views while you answer e-mail or update your Twitter status. Not that you ever do that on company time.

The Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum is located at Balloon Fiesta park, north and west of downtown, 9201 Balloon Museum Dr NE, Albuquerque.

Whether you need to work or just want to Twitter, you can get wireless internet all over the Albuquerque area.

The city offers plenty of free wireless hotspots. If that’s not enough, a bunch of local businesses offer free wifi for customers.

So when it comes to wireless internet, feel free.
