Comments Off on Placitas Holiday Fine Arts & Crafts Sale

This weekend marks the 31st anniversary of the Placitas Holiday Fine Arts and Crafts Sale, with free admission, plenty to shop, wine tastings, and food!

Head up to the village of Placitas on November 17 and 18 to find the 2012 Placitas Holiday Fine Arts and Crafts Sale in full swing between 10 am – 5 pm each day.  The juried art show features 80 New Mexico and Southwestern artists, selling items such as jewelry, clothing, glass, ceramics, gourd art, paintings, photography, and painted drums.

Anasazi Fields Winery offers free wine tastings, and food vendors will provide the fuel to keep everyone browsing and shopping!  Tickets for the raffle cost just $1 each, for a chance to win artwork donated by the show’s artists, in an Arts in the School fundraiser for Placitas Elementary School.

Admission is free, and the show takes place at three sites in the village of Placitas: the big tent by the Presbyterian Church; Anasazi Fields Winery, and Placitas Elementary School.

The organizers tell me they’re gussying up the school to give it colorful and festive atmosphere, and the homemade food at the Presbyterian Church Chili Pepper Cafe will include breakfast burritos, pulled pork sandwiches, tamales, and brownies.  (They had *me* at breakfast burritos.) Food vendors at Anasazi Fields Winery are going a bit posher with salmon on a stick in addition to shrimp dogs and shrimp tacos.

Yes, I know it’s all about the high quality arts and gifts, but the food seems quite interesting too. Can you tell I haven’t had my dinner yet?

It’s such a sweet drive up there and a great chance to get into holiday shopping, browse the art, and try some hot mulled cranberry wine.

Placitas Holiday Fine Arts and Crafts Sale

  • When: Saturday and Sunday November 17-18, 2012
  • Time: 10 am to 5 pm each day
  • Where: Placitas village – three central sites, all well signed
  • Price: Admission is free!

Take I-25 north to Exit 242 (Bernalillo/Placitas), and head east on Highway 165 for six miles to reach the village of Placitas.

New Mexico Wine Festival

Comments Off on New Mexico Wine Festival

The New Mexico Wine Festival takes place in Bernalillo this Labor Day weekend, from September 1 – 3, 2012.

You’ll save $5 on admission if you buy a three-day pass online in advance at $31 for adults, compared to $12 a day at the gate. However, you have to be pretty hard-core wine buff to go for three solid days – and it’s likely to be packed and hot, so keep drinking the water as well as the wine!

The New Mexico Wine Festival $12 adult admission  includes a glass for wine tastings. Minors aged 13-20 pay $5, and kids aged 12 and under go free. The wine tastings are free with admission for age 21+, but these are just tastings. Obviously you have to pay to buy a full glass, or bottles to take home.

If saving time is more important to you than saving money, you can also buy New Mexico Wine Festival tickets online in advance for $13 per adult or $5.50 for minors.  The price for a three-day pass is $31. Either print out the tickets or show them on a smartphone, tablet or other portable device.

In addition to wine tastings from New Mexico wineries, expect a kids’ area, arts and crafts, vendors with all kinds of tasty New Mexico food and delicacies, and a lively line-up of music and entertainment. See the full NM Wine Festival entertainment schedule in PDF from noon to 6 pm each day.  Soon we’ll all be dancing like the grrrroooovy people at the NM Wine Festival website!

It might be wise to take the NM Rail Runner Express to the festival grounds, they have a special Rail Runner schedule for the NM Wine Festival over Labor Day weekend and then walk or hop on the free shuttle at the Sandoval/US 550 station.  If you’re driving, take Bernalillo exits 240 /242 from 1-25 and follow the signs to the wine fest. Expect to pay $3-5 for parking in the lots by the festival.

Remember to take ID even if you look WAY older than 21, as they do check regardless.

The 2012 New Mexico Wine Festival at Bernalillo runs on Saturday through Monday September 1-3, from noon, with wine tasting and entertainment ending at 6 pm.

Comments Off on 15% Off Wine Tour

Get 15% off the wine trail tour today only, October 3, using the coupon code…

ABQ Trolley Co’s boozy new addition to their regular trolley tours is The Wine Trail, taking place at 2 pm on October 15, 2011. The regular ticket price is $70 including tax for the full wine experience, or $55 if you choose not to sample the wines.  (I’m not quite sure why you’d go on the tour if you didn’t want to sample the wines, but…. that’s the facts.)

Today Monday October 3, you can get 15% OFF that price using the coupon code: GQ07nm

The 15% discount brings the wine tour ticket down to $59.50 per person, including tax.

Book online for The Wine Trail.  The four-hour tour includes:

  • Slate Street Cafe: An overview of wine and wine tasting (they’re calling it Wine 101) and, of course, an actual wine tasting.
  • Gruet Winery: Sampling sparkling wine
  • Tierra Encantada Winery: Sampling wine in the South Valley
  • Wine trivia and prizes

Plus of course, the ride on Albuquerque’s favorite open air trolley. (Albuquerque’s ONLY open air trolley?)  This is a higher price tour than ABQ Trolley Co. usually runs, so perhaps it’s not selling out so fast.  They currently have 34 seats available at time of posting. Participants must be aged 21+ and take ID to prove it!

If you want to book the ABQ Trolley Co. Wine Trail at a 15% discount, the discount is only available today, October 3, using the promo code: GQ07nm

On Thursday Night at the Museum, hours are extended until 8:30 pm and admission is free from 5 pm. The next free evening date is this coming Thursday September 15, 2011.

There’s also a free wine appreciation talk. The Art of Tasting Wine presentation at 6:30 pm will be given by Myra Ghattas, who owns Slate Street Café and Slate at The Museum. She’ll talk about the the steps to taste wine, and ordering and opening wine.

This is accompanied by a wine tasting, but the tasting part sadly is not free 😉 You have to pay $15 per person for the wine tasting but that still sounds like a pretty good deal, with three “generous” tastings of featured wines and a “light food pairing”.

After the wine talk and tastings, visitors can join a tour of the Four Centuries exhibition by Albuquerque Museum Curator of History Deb Slaney, and see the museum’s historic wine making equipment.

Admission to the Albuquerque Museum is also free on:

  • Sundays from 9 am to 1 pm

Sandiago’s at the Tram BOGO Free Entree Get one entree free when you buy one entree and two drinks, using the coupon via Premium Shopping Guide until May 31, 2011.  It’s not valid on Mother’s day though (darn it) but Sandiago’s Mexican Grill at the Tramway is one of my fave sunset-watching places even without a free entree incentive!

Most coupons are valid through April 2012, and I always use at least half the coupons over the year. So even though I was sorry to see the April Facebook issue of ATM go off the shelves (did you see my feature on The Like Button? I had such a great time interviewing local businesses for that) at least it was replaced by an issue that saves me money!

Häagen-Dazs Free Cone Day on May 10 from 4-8 pm. A free scoop of any flavor at Häagen-Dazs shops. The bummer is we don’t have one in Albuquerque but the Santa Fe Häagen-Dazs (56 East San Francisco St) and the Los Alamos location (800 Trinity Drive) are both participating. So this one’s for our northern readers or anyone heading up to the City Different or the Atomic City on May 10.
