Comments Off on New Mexico Wine Festival

The New Mexico Wine Festival takes place in Bernalillo this Labor Day weekend, from September 1 – 3, 2012.

You’ll save $5 on admission if you buy a three-day pass online in advance at $31 for adults, compared to $12 a day at the gate. However, you have to be pretty hard-core wine buff to go for three solid days – and it’s likely to be packed and hot, so keep drinking the water as well as the wine!

The New Mexico Wine Festival $12 adult admission  includes a glass for wine tastings. Minors aged 13-20 pay $5, and kids aged 12 and under go free. The wine tastings are free with admission for age 21+, but these are just tastings. Obviously you have to pay to buy a full glass, or bottles to take home.

If saving time is more important to you than saving money, you can also buy New Mexico Wine Festival tickets online in advance for $13 per adult or $5.50 for minors.  The price for a three-day pass is $31. Either print out the tickets or show them on a smartphone, tablet or other portable device.

In addition to wine tastings from New Mexico wineries, expect a kids’ area, arts and crafts, vendors with all kinds of tasty New Mexico food and delicacies, and a lively line-up of music and entertainment. See the full NM Wine Festival entertainment schedule in PDF from noon to 6 pm each day.  Soon we’ll all be dancing like the grrrroooovy people at the NM Wine Festival website!

It might be wise to take the NM Rail Runner Express to the festival grounds, they have a special Rail Runner schedule for the NM Wine Festival over Labor Day weekend and then walk or hop on the free shuttle at the Sandoval/US 550 station.  If you’re driving, take Bernalillo exits 240 /242 from 1-25 and follow the signs to the wine fest. Expect to pay $3-5 for parking in the lots by the festival.

Remember to take ID even if you look WAY older than 21, as they do check regardless.

The 2012 New Mexico Wine Festival at Bernalillo runs on Saturday through Monday September 1-3, from noon, with wine tasting and entertainment ending at 6 pm.

The regular ticket price is $70 including tax for the full wine experience, or $55 if you choose not to sample the wines.  (I’m not quite sure why you’d go on the tour if you didn’t want to sample the wines, but…. that’s the facts.)

Today Monday October 3, you can get 15% OFF that price using the coupon code: GQ07nm

The 15% discount brings the wine tour ticket down to $59.50 per person, including tax.

Book online for The Wine Trail.  The four-hour tour includes:

  • Slate Street Cafe: An overview of wine and wine tasting (they’re calling it Wine 101) and, of course, an actual wine tasting.
  • Gruet Winery: Sampling sparkling wine
  • Tierra Encantada Winery: Sampling wine in the South Valley
  • Wine trivia and prizes

Plus of course, the ride on Albuquerque’s favorite open air trolley. (Albuquerque’s ONLY open air trolley?)  This is a higher price tour than ABQ Trolley Co. usually runs, so perhaps it’s not selling out so fast.  They currently have 34 seats available at time of posting. Participants must be aged 21+ and take ID to prove it!

If you want to book the ABQ Trolley Co. Wine Trail at a 15% discount, the discount is only available today, October 3, using the promo code: GQ07nm

Comments Off on Albuquerque Museum Free Evenings

The Albuquerque Museum of Art and History offers free evening admission on select Thursdays (usually the third Thursday of each month), with talks and special events on those evenings.

On Thursday Night at the Museum, hours are extended until 8:30 pm and admission is free from 5 pm. The next free evening date is this coming Thursday September 15, 2011.

There’s also a free wine appreciation talk. The Art of Tasting Wine presentation at 6:30 pm will be given by Myra Ghattas, who owns Slate Street Café and Slate at The Museum. She’ll talk about the the steps to taste wine, and ordering and opening wine.

This is accompanied by a wine tasting, but the tasting part sadly is not free 😉 You have to pay $15 per person for the wine tasting but that still sounds like a pretty good deal, with three “generous” tastings of featured wines and a “light food pairing”.

After the wine talk and tastings, visitors can join a tour of the Four Centuries exhibition by Albuquerque Museum Curator of History Deb Slaney, and see the museum’s historic wine making equipment.

Admission to the Albuquerque Museum is also free on:

  • Sundays from 9 am to 1 pm
  • All day on the first Wednesday of the month

Even on free days and evenings, expect to pay the usual fees for special exhibits.

The regular admission price is:

  • $4 for adults, or $3 for New Mexico residents with ID.
  • BUT out-of-state visitors can get the same $3 deal for adults if they buy tickets to Albuquerque Museum online and print them out at home.
  • $2 for seniors (65+) wherever you hail from
  • $3 for youngsters aged 13-18
  • $1 for kids aged 4-12.
  • Children aged 3 and under go free.

If you’re new around these parts, the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History is located at the corner of Mountain Road and 19th Street, in Albuquerque Old Town.

New Mexico Wine Festival

Comments Off on New Mexico Wine Festival

The New Mexico Wine Festival takes place in Bernalillo this Labor Day weekend, from September 3 – 5, 2011.

You’ll save $5 on admission if you buy a three-day pass at $31 for adults, compared to $12 a day at the gate. However, you have to be pretty hard-core wine buff to go for three solid days – and it’s likely to be packed and hot, so keep drinking the water as well as the wine!

The New Mexico Wine Festival $12 adult admission  includes a glass for wine tastings. Minors aged 13-20 pay $5, and kids aged 12 and under go free

If saving time is more important to you than saving money, you can also buy New Mexico Wine Festival tickets online in advance for $13 per adult or $5.50 for minors.  Either print out the tickets or show them on a smartphone or other portable device.

In addition to wine tastings from New Mexico wineries, expect vendors with all kinds of tasty New Mexico food and delicacies, arts and crafts, and a lively line-up of NM Wine Festival entertainment from noon to 6 pm each day.

If you’re driving, take Bernalillo exits 240 /242 from 1-25 and follow the signs to the wine fest on Camino del Pueblo, Loretto Park.

Remember to take ID even if you look WAY older than 21, as they do check regardless.

The 2011 New Mexico Wine Festival runs on Saturday through Monday September 3-5, from noon, with wine tasting and entertainment ending at 6 pm.

Albuquerque restaurant deals, plus Mother’s Day offers and brunches, and other treats for moms if you’re looking for last minute ideas!

Boston Market Restaurants Free Family-Size Dessert when you buy any family meal, using the coupon on May 6 – 8 only. Check exclusions on the Boston Market Mother’s Day coupon at the link.

Einstein Bros. Bagels Free Travel Mug when you pre-order a bagel bucket at Einstein Bros. Bagels for pick up on May 7 or May 8.  The mother’s day deal excludes half-dozen, pick six, and baker’s dozen, and the free mug is while stocks last.

Denny’s Free Pancake Puppies Sundae If you’re on Facebook, send mom an e-card for Mother’s Day and they’ll also send her a Denny’s coupon for a free Pancake Puppies Sundae. A Facebook membership is required because you have to Like their page to get the coupon…

Mimi’s Cafe Free Ghirardelli Chocolate for Mom on Mother’s Day. Dine at Mimi’s Cafe after 4 pm on Sunday May 8, spend a minimum of $10 on a dinner entree for mom, and then she’ll get a free Ghirardelli milk and caramel chocolate bar, while supplies last.

Half-price Frappuccinos at Starbucks through May 15, during Frappuccino happy hour from 3 – 5 pm.

Sandiago’s at the Tram BOGO Free Entree Get one entree free when you buy one entree and two drinks, using the coupon via Premium Shopping Guide until May 31, 2011.  It’s not valid on Mother’s day though (darn it) but Sandiago’s Mexican Grill at the Tramway is one of my fave sunset-watching places even without a free entree incentive!

Entertainment Books $15 plus free shipping to May 9.  The price has dropped from $40 per book to $15 and the Albuquerque / Santa Fe Entertainment Book contains $11,800 worth of coupons for local restaurant, attractions, and entertainment, plus a bonus card worth up to $30 of discounts at TGI Friday’s, The Cooperage, Black Angus Steakhouse, Scarpa’s Brick Oven Pizza, etc. The Albuquerque / Santa Fe Entertainment Book with 2-for-1 coupons, discounts and some freebies, includes Scalo, Vivace, Brasserie La Provence, Artichoke Cafe, Fuddruckers, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Cazuela’s Mexican Grill, Golden Pride, Uptown Sports Bar & Grill, Gardunos… and many more.

  • $5 off any $20 purchase
  • Free medium pizza and two toppings when you buy a large specialty pizza (only for carry-out orders)

All Pizza Nine coupons expire May 31, one per person, and you can only use one at a time. You can’t combine all the above, otherwise they’d be paying YOU to eat there 😉

Wine Tasting at Savoy Bar & Grill – Dalla Terra Wine Tasting on Saturday May 14 at 3 pm. Try a variety of Italian wines paired with “small bites” for $30 a head plus tax and tip. Places are limited – you need to make a reservation before they fill.

Albuquerque The Magazine Coupon Book I just got my Food and Wine May issue of Albuquerque The Magazine, with their annual restaurant coupons for 25% off Tim’s Place, 20% off Asian Noodle Bar, and BOGO 50% off at Chow’s Asian Bistro, Coolwater Fusion, Glazed Hams & More, Serafin’s Chile Hut, The Cube BBQ, as well as a bunch of  free food with purchase and other deals.

Most coupons are valid through April 2012, and I always use at least half the coupons over the year. So even though I was sorry to see the April Facebook issue of ATM go off the shelves (did you see my feature on The Like Button? I had such a great time interviewing local businesses for that) at least it was replaced by an issue that saves me money!

Häagen-Dazs Free Cone Day on May 10 from 4-8 pm. A free scoop of any flavor at Häagen-Dazs shops. The bummer is we don’t have one in Albuquerque but the Santa Fe Häagen-Dazs (56 East San Francisco St) and the Los Alamos location (800 Trinity Drive) are both participating. So this one’s for our northern readers or anyone heading up to the City Different or the Atomic City on May 10.
