If there’s one thing I hate, it’s paying top dollar to park my car. What am I talking about? I hate paying top dollar for anything – ha!

Well cheapskates, here are two Albuquerque Airport parking lots with deals and discount coupons to park just minutes away from Albuquerque International Sunport if you’re taking a trip out of town… perhaps to visit family for the holidays.

Albuquerque Airport Parking on University Boulevard just south of Sunport Boulevard offers three parking deals:

  • One Day Free Parking coupon with a minimum two day stay, valid through 2012.
  • Frequent parking rewards program to receive a certificate for up to 7 days of free airport parking when you notch up 10 points. You get 1 point per visit, plus 3 free points just for joining the program, plus a bonus point on your birthday!
  • Military Parking  – Active military personnel with ID receive a discount on parking, and deployed troops park free – you need to contact them in advance and show proof of deployment.

The lot’s official address is 1501 Aircraft Avenue SE, and it’s just opposite the turn off to the handy airport post office on George Road that I often use if I’m in that area, as there are never long lines.

Park and Shuttle coupons are currently for members of specific groups only, on covered or uncovered parking through 2012.

  • $1 off the daily rate if you’re a member of AAA, or for Military, Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Honeywell. Take necessary proofs as requested on the coupon.
  • 50 cents off the daily rate for corporate customers. Not sure how they check that you’re ‘corporate’, but there you go. They request ID and a business card if you have one.

Park and Shuttle is located at 2909 Yale Boulevard SE, just south of the Gibson intersection.

Shuttles run very frequently between both these airport parking facilities and Albuquerque International Sunport.

JetBlue Flight Sale between Albuquerque and New York

Comments Off on JetBlue Flight Sale between Albuquerque and New York

You may have heard already that JetBlue is starting to serve Albuquerque next year, with a daily nonstop flight to and from New York JFK airport.  This new JetBlue route starts on April 22, 2013, and it will be the first New York flight out of Albuquerque since 2008 that doesn’t require a change somewhere en route – praise be!

To launch the new route, JetBlue’s sale on flights between Albuquerque and New York is available until Black Friday, November 23, with air fares starting at $66 one way, including taxes and fees.  Sale fares are valid on flights on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday between  April 23 and May 22, 2013.

The $66 flights are to celebrate Route 66. Shame they couldn’t celebrate I-25 instead, huh? The fares would be even cheaper :-) There are limited $66 flights available but even if you can’t snag one of those on the date you want, some of the other JetBlue fares to and from New York during this period are $109 or $130. That’s still far lower in price than most of the fares I’m seeing at Southwest Airlines, which require a change instead of JetBlue’s direct flights.

The JetBlue sale fares allow you to take one checked bag for free. The only drawback (from my point of view) is that the flight for the daily Albuquerque to New York flight is a red-eye – leaving Albuquerque just before midnight and arriving just before 6 am the following morning. The return from New York JFK leaves at a more civilized 8:25 pm, landing in Albuquerque at 11:04 pm.

Make reservations at www.jetblue.com for the sale fares available through November 23, 2012.

–Tania. Thanks to our Big Apple friend Evelyn at NYC on the Cheap for sending us the alert on the JetBlue flight sale.

Southwest Airlines Sale

Comments Off on Southwest Airlines Sale

If you’re visiting Albuquerque, or live here and want a deal on a trip away, get cheap(er) flights in the Southwest sale.

The limited time Southwest sale gives a price break on flights nationwide this fall but you have to book by August 24, 2012.  The sale is for travel between August 24 and February 13, 2013, on any day except Sundays and some blackout dates around the holidays.  Southwest Airlines is the largest carrier into Albuquerque International Sunport and the thing I like about Southwest is you can take two checked bags for free – and that includes fares in the sale.

Note that when you’re checking the fares at Southwest.com, the prices cited now include government taxes and fees, which is a good thing in my opinion, so I know upfront the full fare without any nasty surprises.

I wouldn’t take much notice of the prices given in the list of Southwest sale fares by city that you’ll find at the link. For example, the list says flights between Albuquerque and Denver start at $86 one-way in the sale, but in searching for an ABQ – Denver flight I found plenty at just under $59 including taxes, under their Wanna Get Away web fare pricing. Best thing is to just go into the Southwest.com Low Fare Calendar and hunt around the for dates you want to find the best ticket price.

Fares will vary according to date and seat availability and not all destinations may be included, but the basic skinny on the Southwest Airlines sale is:

  • Book directly on Southwest.com by Friday August 24, 2012, at 11:59 pm Pacific Time
  • Travel on dates between August 24, 2012, and February 13, 2013.
  • Sale fares not valid on Sundays
  • Blackout dates are November 16 – 21, November 23 – 26, December 20 – 23, and December 26 – January 2, 2013.

Seats are limited and the special offer fares are likely to be snapped up quickly, so if you’re interested, check out the Southwest Airlines sale pronto.

World Market Promo: 15% off Southwest Airlines Flights

Comments Off on World Market Promo: 15% off Southwest Airlines Flights

Airfare discount: Airport Sign image by Petr KratochvilCost Plus World Market has a promotion running with Southwest Airlines when you shop at World Market until July 13, 2012.  Woot!
Any way to save on airfares is most welcome to me.

If you’re shopping in Cost Plus World Market stores, spend $20 or more to get a 15% discount on Southwest Airlines for a roundtrip Wanna Get Away fare. Hold on to your receipt as that gives a bar code number you’ll need to redeem the Southwest Airlines discount.

The receipt must be dated between June 16 and July 13, 2012, and the offer is only good on in-store purchases. The $20 minimum spend is pre-tax in a single transaction, and purchases excluded from the promotion are alcoholic beverages (shame!), kitchen electrics, and gift cards and eGift Cards.

The offer is limited to one discount promo code redemption per person and per email address per day. So it sounds like you could make a couple of $20 purchases and redeem each one for the Southwest Airlines discount, as long as they’re not redeemed on the same day.

See the full terms of the Buy and Fly World Market Southwest Airlines discount, which includes blackout dates for travel through July 8, and on September 2 and 3, 2012

There are two Cost Plus World Market stores in Albuquerque, and one in Santa Fe.

Southwest Airlines Sale: Fares from $35

October 18, 2011 by
Filed under Weekend & Day Trips

Comments Off on Southwest Airlines Sale: Fares from $35

If you’re visiting Albuquerque, or live here and want a deal on a trip away, get discount flights in the Southwest sale.

Southwest Airlines is the largest carrier into Albuquerque International Sunport and the Southwest fall sale gives a price break on flights this winter, starting at $35 one way. You must book by October 20, 2011, for travel between November 30 – December 14, 2011 or between January 4 – February 15, 2012.  Fares are valid on any day except Sundays.

The thing I like about Southwest is you can take two free bags – and that includes fares in the sale.

They promo says that sale fares are charged by distance.

  • One way travel up to 450 miles is $35
  • For travel between 451 miles and 1000 miles, fares are $65
  • For travel between 1001 to 1500 miles, fares are $95
  • For travel of 1501+ miles, fares are $125

These are all for a one way fare. That means that sale fares from Albuquerque include:

  • $35 Denver, El Paso, Lubbock, Tucson, Phoenix, Midland/Odessa
  • $65 Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Kansas City, Tulsa, St Louis, San Diego,  etc.
  • $95 Chicago, Detroit, Tampa Bay, Spokane, etc.
  • $125 Boston, Newark, Baltimore, Orlando, etc.

Here’s the scoop on the Southwest Airlines sale:

  • Book directly on Southwest.com through October 20, 2011
  • Travel from November 30 – December 14, 2011 or between January 4 – February 15, 2012.
  • Sale fares not valid on Sundays
  • A few additional regulation fees apply – they’re fairly minimal, see the deal page
  • Sale fares include two free bags for check-in luggage

Seats are limited and the special offer fares are likely to be snapped up quickly, so if you’re interested, check out the Southwest Airlines sale pronto.

Southwest recently bought Air Tran Airways, and although Air Tran doesn’t fly into Albuquerque, they’re running a similar Air Tran Sale.

$50 for a $100 Travelocity Hotel Gift Card

October 5, 2011 by
Filed under Lodging, Weekend & Day Trips

Pay $50 for a $100 Travelocity hotel gift card – buy before Friday October 7, 2011 (while supplies last) and use the gift card by March 31, 2012.

I’m always looking for a way to save on hotels when I’m traveling, and also when I’m putting visiting family and friends up as guests in hotels.  (Seeing as my house is pretty tiny, and Mr Cheap is pretty big, and the equation doesn’t work so well when you add in a few guests too.)

This $50 for a $100 Travelocity hotel gift card deal via Tippr seems like a good solution – basically saving $50 on a hotel booking. It’s redeemable at national and overseas hotels listed at TravelocityIncentives.com if you’re going on vacation or traveling to see family. (55,000 hotels, they reckon.)

For visitors to Albuquerque, hotels and B&Bs currently on the list include Nativo Lodge, Hotel Parq Central, Hotel Blue, Brittania W.E. Mauger Estate, Embassy Suites, Casas De Suenos in Old Town, La Quinta Inn, Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Hyatt Place, Sheraton Airport Hotel, and plenty of other chain hotels.

There are no blackout dates to use the gift card, but there is a minimum spend of $250 total required before you can apply the gift card, and a minimum of a two night stay. So this deal is suitable if you’re planning a several night stay – forget it if you’re planning a one-nighter, or a couple of nights in already cheap accommodation that won’t reach the $250 minimum.

The $50 for a $100 Travelocity hotel gift card is via Tippr, available nationally so you can buy it wherever you are. Sometimes these national deals have a cap in quantity so they may sell out before the promotion ends. Otherwise the offer is through Friday October 7, 2011. Then the gift card must be used by March 31, 2012.

You can buy up to 10 gift cards per person, and it’s good for one code per hotel reservation. We’ve given the main points of the offer here. But as always – check the fine print to make sure it’s a good deal for your needs.  And happy travels!

–Tania  FYI – I’ve given you my Tippr affiliate links to plug you direct to the offer. If you feel like sending a little love this way to support the ABQ on the Cheap site, please use the links.

Fly $9.99 Between Albuquerque and Denver

July 29, 2011 by
Filed under General, Weekend & Day Trips

Yes, you read it right, and I’ve got the decimal point in the right place. One way flights between Albuquerque and Denver for under ten bucks. But you have to book fast…

* * *

UPDATE August 1: We posted on Friday about the Frontier Sale through August 1. (As below.) Now they’ve added a  Frontier Colorado Day Sale. Buy tickets by August 3, 2011, at 9:59 pm Mountain Time, for travel through December 15, 2011.  It must be a 14-day advance purchase and the lowest fares are on the days: Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.  On other days, fares may be higher.

The sale still offers $9.99 flights between Albuquerque and Denver. (One Way). Other cities in the sale include Albuquerque – Colorado Springs ($44);  a bunch of $69 fares to Austin, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Salt Lake City, and other flight deals to various cities.  Find all fares, terms and conditions for the Frontier Colorado Day sale.

 * * *

We’ve just got word of the Frontier Airlines flight sale between Albuquerque and Denver, for fares at a staggeringly low $9.99 each way. Travel must be on a Tuesday or Wednesday between September 7 and November 12, 2011. No need to purchase a round trip, one-way travel is fine.

You have to book fast though, as the $9.99 sale fares are only available to purchase until Monday August 1, 2011 at 9:59 pm Mountain Time (11.59 pm Eastern Time).

Expect to pay the usual taxes and fees in addition to the ticket price – in a quick test booking, I’m seeing it come in at $7 on top of the $9.99 fare.

Checked bags cost extra, $20 per bag. But if you upgrade to a Classic ticket (offered once you’ve selected a flight) it may be better value for you, as the additional $25 per person gets you two checked bags, advance seating assignment, and some other benefits.

Seats are according to availability and the $9.99 fares may sell out fast, so purchase Albuquerque / Denver sale fares at FrontierAirlines.com by August 1.

Also don’t forget the Southwest Airlines fall sale we mentioned before, with sale fares also available through August 1, and fewer date restrictions. They offer two check in bags free, and right now I’m seeing Albuquerque to Denver flights starting at $24 plus taxes over this same fall period.  It’s the battle of the airlines!

Depending on your travel date preferences and how much luggage you have, one or other airline may be a better deal for you. Either way, if you’re flying between Albuquerque and Denver this fall, now’s the time to grab a bargain flight.
