The ABQ Home Expo returns for 2014 on the weekend of August 23 and 24, and you can get $2 off admission by buying tickets online in advance.

I’m pretty sure the ABQ Home Expo used to be called the ABQ Home and Lifestyle Expo way back in the dark ages. But whatever they choose to call it, we like to see discounted admission! So here’s the deal.

Get $2 off ABQ Home Expo adult admission at Expo New Mexico if you buy tickets online. That makes it $6 per ticket instead of $8 on the door. There’s no online discount for seniors’ and kids’ tickets for this show, but they cost less in the first place. Admission is $6 for seniors and kids.  Children aged 11 and under go free.

The August 2014 ABQ Home Expo runs on:

  • Saturday August 23 from 10 am to 5 pm
  • Sunday August 24 from 10 am to 4 pm.

I love these events because we get to see everything that’s new in home decor and improvements, kitchens, design trends, gadgets, products, and more. For the very first time, the Expo will feature a Local Artisan’s Market.

The ABQ Home Expo is held in the Manuel Lujan Buildings at EXPO New Mexico, home of the New Mexico State Fairgrounds. If you drive there, the parking fee is $5.

This is actually cheaper than the ticket price last year when it was $10/$9. So maybe that higher price admission didn’t work out so well for them. There’s no online discount for seniors’ and kids’ tickets for this show, but they cost less in the first place. Admission is $5 for seniors and kids.  Children aged 11 and under go free.

Comments Off on Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show 2013

We know how much you love your fiery foods, but don’t be a hot head. Check out the best way to buy your tickets to Albuquerque’s National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show, returning to the Sandia Resort and Casino from March 1 – 3, 2013.

The 25th National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show is produced by Albuquerque’s own chilehead Dave DeWitt, with over 200 exhibitors and plenty of opportunities to sample salsas, savories, and sweets with heat!  Cooking demonstrations this year include guest chef  “Dr. BBQ” Ray Lampe, and cookbook author Jennifer Trainer Thompson is giving two demonstrations on How to Make Hot Sauce at Home. There’s also a tequila demonstration with Jim Garcia of Sadies of New Mexico, the Great Grill-Off contest, and more.

Tickets cost $15 for adults and $5 for children aged 6 – 18 if you buy tickets at the door.  Tots aged 5 and under go free. However, you can get a discount ticket at $10 for adults if you purchase tickets in advance.  (Kids’ ticket prices are still $5.) To avoid paying Ticketmaster fees on those advance tickets, hop it along to the Sandia Resort & Casino Ticketmaster booth ahead of the show’s opening date to get the $5 discount with no online fee.

Otherwise, purchasing advance tickets online via Ticketmaster adds a $5.05 fee per adult ticket, so you’re actually paying 5 cents more than on the door, and kids’ admission is $3.75 more expensive than waiting till the day of the show. Plus you’ll pay a fee for ticket delivery, or it’s free for Will Call tickets. If the convenience of buying online in advance works for you, that’s all well and good: order via Ticketmaster here.

Admission for the fiery foods extravaganza is hot-and-heavy-breathing good value, even if you don’t snag the advance discount!

The 2013 Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show general public admission times are:

  • Friday March 1  from 4 to 8 pm
  • Saturday March 2  from 11 am to 7 pm
  • Sunday March 3  from 11 am to 6 pm

It’s free to park at Sandia Resort and Casino, located at 30 Rainbow Road NE, just east of I-25 at the Tramway Exit 234. The resort is huge and kinda hard to miss, but if you’re an Albuquerque visitor, here’s a map to Sandia Resort & Casino.

A Christmas Carol Ticket Deal and Discount Theatre Offer

Comments Off on A Christmas Carol Ticket Deal and Discount Theatre Offer

Two productions of the festive classic A Christmas Carol are about to hit the stage in Albuquerque, and here’s how to get discount tickets to both. Plus you can save with a deal on Albuquerque Theatre Guild Theatre Lovers Community for the holiday season.

Duke City Repertory Theatre at The Filling Station presents A Christmas Carol from November 29 to December 16, and this A Christmas Carol ticket deal gives you two adult tickets for the price of one. For Thursday performances you get TWO adult tickets for $10 (usually $10 each) and Friday to Sunday it’s TWO adult tickets for $19 instead of the regular price of $20 each.

The production is based on the Charles Dickens story and adapted and performed by John Hardy. Yep, one guy plays more than 25 roles in the play. (Talk about “One man in his time plays many parts.” Oh. We don’t need to. Will Shakespeare talked about it already…)

The 50% off ticket offer online is via Living Social, for a limited time and while seat availability lasts. Note that kids’ tickets for all performances are $5 if you buy them in the regular way, not with this special offer.

If you miss that deal (why would you? It’s a cracker) the cheapest day to go is Thursday, when tickets are $10 each for adults, or $5 for kids. On other days, tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for military, seniors, and students with ID, and kids still pay $5. If you buy those direct from the Duke City Rep online box office, there is also an addition $1.50 per ticket booking fee.

Performances are on Thursdays to Saturdays at 8 pm, plus Sunday matinees at 2 pm and you’ll find The Filling Station at 1024 4th Street, SW.

Over at the Adobe Theater, the holiday show is Christmas Classic Radio Theater presents: A Christmas Carol. The show runs from November 30 to December 16, 2012, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, and on Sundays at 2 pm.  Regular priced tickets are $15, or $13 for seniors and students. But if you buy tickets in advance for the opening weekend (November 30, and December 1 and 2) all tickets are reduced to $12.

Call the box office at (505) 898-9222 or book Adobe Theater tickets online – there’s an online booking fee of around $1 per ticket. The Adobe Theater is located at 9813 Fourth Street NW.

The Albuquerque Theatre Guild told us about this deal on a six-month membership for the Theatre Lovers Community, which gives you discounts at various member theatres, access to rehearsals and auditions, and special programs. A membership for the period January 1 to June 30, 2013, is priced at $17.50, or $15 for full-time students and seniors over age 62.

But right now they have a deal to buy TWO Theatre Lovers Community memberships for $27. If you buy now, they’ll also throw in December membership, at no additional cost. Could be a nice idea for a gift, and they’ll even send the membership card and a seasonal greeting on your behalf to the recipient, if you choose.

We do enjoy some fantastic theatre in Albuquerque, and even better when it’s on the cheap!

Ultimate Home Showcase Discount or Free Admission

Comments Off on Ultimate Home Showcase Discount or Free Admission

Albuquerque’s 2012 Ultimate Home Showcase takes place on March 17-18, with several ways to get discount admission or maybe even free admission!

The Ultimate Home Showcase home show at Expo New Mexico on March 17-18, 2012, includes the International Green Ideas Show and the Construction and Architectural Suppliers Show, with exhibitors showing ideas for home design and decor, remodeling, sustainable lifestyle and energy, and green technology.

Regular admission to the show is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors over 65 and kids aged 13-18. Admission is free for children aged 12 and under.  But here’s how to get discount or even free admission:

  • Print this BOGO coupon to get two admissions for the price of one, via New Mexico Market Place (or just pick up a copy of NM Market Place to get the coupon!)
  • Get $3 off adult admission using the coupon at the Ultimate Home Showcase website, or here’s the direct link to the PDF $3 off coupon.
  • Free admission for seniors on Sunday morning (no coupon needed).
  • Free admission for bike riders and for those who take the bus and show a receipt or pass.
  • Pay $1 for admission if you take a computer for recycling.

The show has a bit of a St. Patrick’s Day theme going for kids, with a visit by the leprechaun Sir Hugh Elliott (sounds like a very leprechauny name) on Saturday March 17 from 10 am to 3 pm, when he’ll be telling stories and giving out chocolate coins. Anyone dressed as a leprechaun or other nature spirit or sporting a British Isle theme costume can get a professional free photo taken!

Other fun activities include a scavenger hunt, hydrogen-powered car races, a PNM giveaway of compact florescent light bulbs, and a lasso demonstration.

Stephanie Kaylan of Wanagi Wolf Fund and Rescue will also be at the show on Sunday March 18 from 10 am to 4 pm with a couple of her wolves.

Ultimate Home Showcase takes place:

  • When:  March 17-18, 2012
  • Time:  Saturday 10 am – 5 pm and Sunday 10 am – 4 pm
  • Where: Expo New Mexico, Manuel Lujan Buildings A and B.

The Expo New Mexico parking fee is usually $5. I believe the Ultimate Home Showcase used to be called the Albuquerque’s Home Builders & Remodelers Showcase; all these home shows seem to be changing their names this year!

Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show 2012

Albuquerque’s National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show returns to the Sandia Resort and Casino from March 2 – 4, 2012, with over 200 exhibitors and plenty of opportunities to sample salsas, savories, and sweets with heat!

We know how much you love your fiery foods, but don’t be a hot head, check out the best way to buy your tickets to the big event, produced by Albuquerque’s own chilehead Dave DeWitt.

The 24th National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show tickets cost $15 for adults and $5 for children up to age to 18 if you buy tickets at the door.

Or do you need to buy a ticket at all? Bookworks hosts a book signing with Dave DeWitt on Sunday February 26, 2012, at 3 pm, and if you buy a copy of his new book at that event, you get a free pass for the Fiery Foods Show. The book is Dave DeWitt’s Chile Trivia: Weird, Wacky Factoids for Curious Chileheads by DeWitt and Lois Manno, and although we don’t have info from Bookworks on book pricing, the publisher gives a price of $15.95. So you essentially get the book PLUS show admission for a similar price to one or other on their own.

You can also get a discount ticket at $10 for adults and still $5 for children if you purchase tickets in advance. However, purchasing online in advance via Ticketmaster adds a $3.50 fee per ticket, so you actually only save $1.50 on each adult ticket, and the kids’ admission is $3.50 more expensive than waiting till the day of the show. Plus you’ll pay a fee for ticket delivery, or it’s free for Will Call tickets. If the convenience of buying online in advance works for you, that’s all well and good.

But the ***magic*** solution to get the the best of both worlds? The event publicist confirms that you can also trundle along to the Sandia Resort & Casino Ticketmaster booth ahead of the show to buy discount advance tickets with no online fee.

Update: Advance ticket purchase means *before* Friday March 2 (opening date) according to the comment from Eric below. Thanks Eric!

Admission for the fiery foods extravaganza is hot-and-heavy-breathing good value, even if you don’t snag the advance discount!

General public admission times for the 2012 Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show are:

  • Friday March 2  from 4 to 8 pm
  • Saturday March 3  from 11 am to 7 pm
  • Sunday March 4  from 11 am to 6 pm

It’s free to park at Sandia Resort and Casino, located at 30 Rainbow Road NE, just east of I-25 at the Tramway Exit 234. The resort is huge and kinda hard to miss, but if you’re an Albuquerque visitor, here’s a map to Sandia Resort & Casino.

The ABQ Home Expo returns on February 18 and 19, 2012, and you can get $3 off admission by buying tickets online in advance.

I’m pretty sure the ABQ Home Expo used to be called the ABQ Home and Lifestyle Expo, but whatever they’re calling it, we like to see discounted admission! So here’s the deal, and it’s worth getting organized now, so you can save dollars later.

Get $3 off ABQ Home Expo adult admission at Expo New Mexico if you buy tickets online in advance.  That makes it $7 per ticket instead of $10 on the door. Seniors and kids save $1, at $6 online. It’ll be $7 on the door.

Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show 2011

Comments Off on Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show 2011

The Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show returns to the Sandia Resort and Casino Events Center from March 4 – 6, 2011, with over 200 exhibitors and plenty of opportunities to sample salsas, savories, and sweets with heat!

We know how much you love your fiery foods, but don’t be a hot head, check out the best way to buy your tickets to the big event, produced by Albuquerque’s own chilehead Dave DeWitt.

The 23rd Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show tickets cost:

  • $15 for adults and $5 for children up to age to 18 if you wait to buy tickets at the door.
  • $10 for adults and still $5 for children if you purchase tickets in advance.

That makes it sounds like the advance purchase is the better deal, but as purchasing online in advance via Ticketmaster adds a $3.25 “convenience charge” per ticket, you actually only save $1.75 on each adult ticket, and the kids’ admission is $3.25 more expensive than waiting till the day of the show. Plus you’ll pay a fee for ticket delivery which varies according to the method you choose, starting at $2.50. If the convenience of buying online in advance works for you, that’s all well and good.

But the ***magic*** solution to get the best of both worlds? The event publicist tells us you can also trundle along to the Sandia Resort & Casino Ticketmaster booth ahead of the show to buy advance tickets with no online fee.

Sounds like a no-brainer to me, or just wait and buy your tickets on the door on the day. Admission for the fiery foods extravaganza is hot-and-heavy-breathing good value, even if you don’t snag the advance discount!

General public admission times for the 2011 Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show are:

  • Friday March 4  from 4 to 7 pm
  • Saturday March 5  from 11 am to 7 pm
  • Sunday March 6  from 11 am to 6 pm

It’s free to park at Sandia Resort and Casino, located at 30 Rainbow Road NE, just east of I-25 at the Tramway Exit 234. The resort is huge and kinda hard to miss, but if you’re an Albuquerque visitor, here’s a map to Sandia Resort & Casino.
