Ski Free at Sipapu Resort New Mexico – snowboarders too!

Sipapu Ski Resort is giving free lift tickets to all skiers and snowboarders for the New Mexico ski resort’s two closing weekends.

OK, snow bunnies! The family-friendly Sipapu Ski Resort has announced that it’s free for everyone to ski at Sipapu on their closing weekends for this ski season:

—  Saturday and Sunday April 5 – 6, 2014

—  Saturday and Sunday April 12 – 13, 2014

They just had a nice dump of snow up at Sipapu and according to a press release, up to 12 runs will be open this weekend. That includes four beginner trails, seven intermediate trails and one advanced run. Sipapu’s largest terrain park, Don Diego, is also scheduled to be open.

Lift #1 will be running, which serves mountain terrain from top to bottom as well as Lift #2 for the practice slope. The resort’s full-service rental shop will be open if you don’t have your own gear.

Apparently this ski and snowboard season has been one of the most successful on record, so as a closing celebration they’re sharing the lurve with the ski freebie!

Lifts will be open from 9:30 am to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday April 5-6 and April 12-13. Sipapu is only open for these two weekends for the rest of this season, not on weekdays.

To check the latest on weather and conditions, see Sipapu Ski Resort’s website at this link before heading off for their last ski and snowboarding weekend of the season – totally free.

Sipapu is about a 2.5 hour drive from Albuquerque via Santa Fe, 20 miles southeast of Taos.

Ski Free at Sipapu Resort New Mexico – snowboarders too!

Sipapu Ski Resort is giving free lift tickets to all skiers and snowboarders this weekend as part of the New Mexico ski resort’s closing weekend.

OK, snow bunnies! The family-friendly Sipapu Ski Resort has just announced that it’s free for everyone to ski at Sipapu this Saturday and Sunday April 13-14, 2013. They reckon they are the only New Mexico ski area open this weekend. Although I haven’t fact-checked that, I’m pretty sure all the other NM ski resorts I know have indeed closed for this season already. Apparently this has been Sipapu’s biggest season ever, with an estimated 10% more visitors than last year.  As a closing celebration they’re sharing the lurve with the ski freebie!

According to a press release, Lift #1 will be running, which serves mountain terrain from top to bottom. The resort anticipates that at least seven trails will be open, including two beginner routes, two intermediate trails and three advanced trails. The resort’s full-service rental shop will be open if you don’t have your own gear. Lifts will be open from 9:30 am to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

This all depends of course on the weather playing nicely and general conditions. So check Sipapu Ski Resort’s website at this link before heading off for the last ski and snowboarding weekend of the season in New Mexico – totally free.

Sipapu is about a 2.5 hour drive from Albuquerque via Santa Fe, 20 miles southeast of Taos.

Comments Off on Sipapu Ski Resort Free Lodging and Lift Ticket Deals

Sipapu Ski Resort offers a bunch of freebies and deals to lure skiers and snowboarders on to the slopes at the family-friendly resort during this January to April 2013 ski season.

For one, you can score free lodging at Sipapu, Taos, Santa Fe or Las Vegas in one of their most popular promotions. Buy two adult lift tickets at $44 each and get one night’s free lodging.  The options are at Sipapu’s own lodging just yards from the base of the lifts, or you can get a free room in Taos at the Sagebrush Inn, El Pueblo Lodge, Quality Inn, or Indian Hills Inn; in Santa Fe at the Santa Fe Sage Inn, or free lodging in Las Vegas, NM at the Super 8.  The offer runs throughout the season with some date restrictions depending on the free lodging location you choose, so check the offer details at the above link to find the best deal for your trip.

Other Sipapu special offers for skiers include:

Car Load Days Deal Everyone in one car skis for $50 on Wednesdays January 9, 16, 23, and 30, plus many (but not all) Wednesdays in February through April. You can pack up to 6 skiers in one vehicle and get this deal – that’s under 10 bucks per person. But you must mention the Car Load Days Deal when collecting your lift tickets.

Two for One Tuesdays  Buy a full price lift ticket and get one lift ticket free on Tuesdays.  This offer is scheduled for every Tuesday in January and February, and then selected dates in March, but check the dates at the above link in case they change.

On Parents Ski Free Week from January 21 – 27, 2013, one parent gets a free lift ticket with the purchase of a teen or child full price full day lift ticket. Mention the Parents Ski Free deal when picking up the lift ticket for your kid.

A host of other Sipapu ski-for-free deals through the season make me wonder if anyone will pay full price! These people get free lift tickets:

  • Kids ski free aged 6 and under every day with proof of age
  • Fourth Graders ski free every day with proof such as a current report card
  • 40 Year Olds ski free every day – gotta love that one. If you’re forty, you ski or ride free with proof of age
  • 60 Year Olds ski free every day and you must be exactly 60, with proof of age.
  • Free lift ticket for skiers aged 70+ every day with proof of age
  • Active Military ski free with military ID. There are some blackout dates – see this link

You need to mention the relevant offer when you turn up, ‘cos, like, they’re not mind-readers. Sipapu is about a 2.5 hour drive from Albuquerque via Santa Fe, 20 miles southeast of Taos.

Comments Off on Night Skiing At Angel Fire

The snow is GOOOOOOD in New Mexico ski resorts this year, so here’s an after-dark deal for skiers and snowboarders! I reckon night skiing at Angel Fire is a steal at $24 and it sounds like a lot of fun. It’s even cheaper – $12  – if you’re upgrading a day lift ticket from the same day.

If you missed our earlier post on this, you can ski or snowboard 50 acres of the mountain’s easier trails from 4 – 8 pm on select dates in March. You’re not sliding around in the dark,  the mountain is lit up, including terrain park jumps, rails, and boxes. In between the white stuff, you can get your groove on at The Village Haus with live music, food, and a bar.

The final dates for Angel Fire Resort night skiing in this 2012 season are from 4 – 8 pm on:

  • Friday and Saturday March 2 – 3
  • Every evening for Spring Break, March 9 – 25
  • All dates may change depending on weather and conditions, so check with Angel Fire before setting off.

Current Angel Fire lodging deals include:

  • Get a free night’s stay in the Angel Fire Lodge when you buy 4 lift tickets, on the nights of March 4-7, and March 18-21. Call (575) 377-4320 and mention the ‘Free to Stay’ promotion. The lift tickets can mix adult and child tickets.
  • Fourth Night Free in an Angel Fire condo or vacation rental when you pay for three nights through March 25th, excluding blackout dates of March 9 – 15. Plus they’re offering a 33% discount on lift tickets with this accommodation deal at time of writing, for everyone staying in the group. Call 866-383-7971 to reserve.

Angel Fire Resort  is about 24 miles east of Taos. Get Mapquest directions,  it’s approximately a three hour drive from Albuquerque.

Inn of the Mountain Gods Deals

Comments Off on Inn of the Mountain Gods Deals

The Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino at Mescalero, near Ruidoso, NM, offers several lodging deals for a lake and mountain getaway, for skiers, and some Valentines specials.

I’ve not stayed overnight at the Inn of the Mountain Gods, but I have visited when researching a magazine article, and the AAA Four Diamond resort is a rather spectacular property. Owned by the Mescalero Apache Tribe – which also runs Ski Apache – the Inn is set on Lake Mescalero with great mountain views. Activities include skiing and other outdoor leisure, and, of course, gaming.

Inn of the Mountain Gods lodging deals currently include a $99 Great Escape package for stays on Sunday to Thursday through April 30, 2012. The package includes a one night stay, breakfast buffet for two people, and two margaritas in Wendell’s Lounge. I think that’s a pretty good deal for a quick getaway! There are some blackout dates.

They also offer a  Ski Apache package until March 1, 2012. Get the fourth night free when you book a three night stay, plus they throw in two free adult lift tickets. Use the promo code SEASON when booking and note there are some blackout dates.

A couple of Valentines Packages don’t look quite such a good deal to me, but I’ll mention them in case you’re interested. The Valentines Packages are for stays on Sundays to Thursdays throughout February, 2012, but they must be booked by February 8.  Options are $149 for one night in a superior or luxury room, including champagne and six red roses (use promo code: LOVE 1) or $249 for 1 night in a Suite with champagne, 4 chocolate-covered strawberries and 1 dozen red roses (use promoc code: LOVE 2).

Get all details of the Inn of the Mountain Gods lodging deals at the link, and book online or call 1-800-545-9011.

While you’re there, you might try Smokey B’s Apache Taco Challenge. Any hungry soul who can eat the 6 pound 6 ounce Apache Taco within an hour (with no help from anyone else) gets the taco free! Otherwise, you pay the full price: it’s a $20.99 taco – but you can take the leftovers with you :-)

Inn of the Mountain Gods is approximately 188 miles southeast of Albuquerque, located on the Mescalero Apache Reservation, just a few minutes outside Ruidoso, New Mexico.

New Mexico Ski Card $125 for 10 Lift Tickets

December 11, 2011 by
Filed under Sport & Leisure, Weekend & Day Trips

Comments Off on New Mexico Ski Card $125 for 10 Lift Tickets

The American Lung Association in New Mexico’s Ski Card for the 2011/2012 ski season costs $125 for 10 adult lift tickets to ski resorts in New Mexico and Colorado.

I’m slightly in two minds about this New Mexico Ski Card deal as a) I wish it included Sandia Peak, and b) you can only ski each destination once. The resorts are spread through New Mexico and Colorado, so you need to be a real ski hound to take advantage of every lift ticket in the package. Plus there are a bunch of blackout dates for most resorts, and you could spend hours hunched over your calendar trying to figure out when you can ski where.

But hey, it’s all for a good cause, and even if you just redeem it at a few of the New Mexico and Colorado ski resorts, you’ll get your money back. For example, regular priced adult lift tickets at Angel Fire ($64) plus Red River ($64) come to $128. So if you ski both, the $125 New Mexico Ski Card has saved you $3, and all the other resorts are free bonuses!

If you only want to ski a couple of resorts though, check out their websites in case they have other special offers that would suit your budget better.

There is a limit of 1,000 American Lung Association in New Mexico Ski Cards for sale. The card entitles you to one adult lift ticket at each of these ski areas:

  • Angel Fire Resort
  • Taos Ski Valley (this is a two for one offer – buy one lift ticket at $75 and get another lift ticket free)
  • Arapahoe Basin Ski Area
  • Enchanted Forest Cross-Country (No date restrictions)
  • Monarch Mountain Ski Area
  • Red River Ski Area
  • Sipapu Ski Resort
  • Ski Cooper (No date restrictions)
  • Ski Apache
  • Sunlight Mountain Resort

Check the deal page for date restrictions on each ski resort.

If anyone does plot an itinerary to visit all these New Mexico and Colorado ski resorts this winter to use the Ski Card – let me know! We’ll give major props here on ABQ on the Cheap. You’ll likely need props after driving all over creation to achieve the feat, but you’ll have seen some glorious landscapes and skied some beautiful places…

Comments Off on Ski Pass Sales & Free Cross Country Ski Clinic

REI Albuquerque offers deals on ski passes for a bunch of Colorado and New Mexico ski resorts, all ready to tempt us onto the slopes this winter. (As if snow-hounds need tempting!)

The REI Albuquerque ski pass sales happen on different weekends for different resorts with various savings for the winter 2011-2012 ski season.

This weekend, from November 18 – 20, it’s Durango Mountain Ski Resort’s Sale. If you want to ski Durango, REI members get a lower price than non-members on Durango’s 4-pak sale – up to $30 lower in fact.
REI lifetime membership is $20 so you do the math on whether it’s worth signing up for more savings! (Plus there are other REI membership benefits including shopping discounts).

Other REI ski pass sales coming up:

REI Albuquerque also hosts a couple of free events for those into cross country skiing, or the sustainable solar-powered lifestyle – or possibly both! Register online in advance to secure a place.

A free NM Solar Energy Association session on Tuesday November 22 at 6 pm beams its solar ray on photovoltaic basics, with expert speakers and discussion.

The free cross country skiing clinic doesn’t take place till next year… Saturday January 7, 2012, to be precise. So why am I telling you about it now? Because it’s a small group of maximum 15 places, and already they’re filling up fast, so if you want a spot, register pronto.  This sounds like a clinic for beginners to cross country skiing, with info on the gear you need and where to ski.

Albuquerque REI is located at 1550 Mercantile Avenue NE.
