Free Shipping DayGet free shipping from online retailers, with delivery promised on or by Christmas Eve.

Free Shipping Day is Thursday December 18, 2014, and 839 stores are signed up (so far!) to give customers free shipping for orders taken on the 18th.  They say delivery will be by Christmas Eve for addresses in the continental United States.  All Free Shipping Day offers will be revealed on this website at 12:01am EST on Thursday, December 18, 2014.

Online merchants taking part include Cabelas, REI, The Body Shop, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Office Depot, Levi’s, American Eagle, Sheplers, J.Crew, Bass Pro Shops, Harry & David, Omaha Steaks, and a whole bunch more.

Participating Free Shipping Day merchants offer free holiday shipping with no minimum order. Others may have exclusions – for example the items must be in stock or oversized items are excluded (because Santa’s sleigh can’t deliver in time, I suppose.) Some also offer special discounts with Free Shipping Day. Check the details of each merchant’s offer on the Free Shipping Day website.

Amazon.com also has its regular free shipping on orders over $35 through December 16 for Christmas delivery. Find today’s deeply discounted Amazon.com flash deals here.

I’m always nervous of free shipping so close to Christmas as my Christmas tree has been left with holes under it in the past when the package didn’t roll in till after the Big Day. Now I generally pony up to pay shipping if it’s someone’s main gift, to avoid disappointment. However, the Free Shipping Day folk have said that many merchants pay for expedited shipping to get it to shoppers by Christmas Eve.

I’d always encourage you to shop from local businesses, but if you shop online at the national retailers anyway, perhaps to send gifts to distant friends or relatives, Free Shipping Day is a chance to save a few dollars on gifts.

New Mexico Tax Holiday 2014

Comments Off on New Mexico Tax Holiday 2014

New Mexico Tax Holiday This year’s New Mexico Tax Holiday starts on Friday, August 1, and ends at midnight on Sunday, August 3, 2014. During this gross receipts tax holiday, you will not be charged sales tax on a wide variety of items, which makes back-to-school shopping a little more affordable!

As with any legislation, the rules are somewhat complex. Basically, the following items are exempt from the state’s gross receipts tax during the New Mexico  tax holiday:

  • Clothing or shoes priced less than $100 per unit/per pair
  • Desktop, laptop, or notebook computers, including tablets, priced less than $1,000
  • Other computer hardware priced under $500 (such as a printer, mouse, keyboard, monitor, microphone, speakers, ink cartridges etc.)
  • School supplies priced under $30 per unit
  • School backpacks priced less than $100 per unit
  • Handheld calculators under $200 per unit

Note that PDAs, iPods and all MP3 players, games including computer games, and musical instruments are specifically excluded. (That is, these items are taxable.) Also swimwear is excluded and any specialist footwear that someone wouldn’t wear in the street, such as ski boots.

There are many sub-categories in the eligible items, so to see what’s taxable and nontaxable, check out these two PDF files:

In Albuquerque, where the gross receipts tax rate is 7%, that means you can save $70 on the purchase of a $1,000 laptop computer. Another example might be a family with four kids, each requiring $250 worth of clothing, shoes, and school supplies. They also would save $70 by not paying sales tax. That’s a big shopping saving, just by buying on the right weekend.

Hence I’m giving you the heads-up: If you’re planning a remote camping trip to the mountains, DON’T do it on the weekend of August 1 to 3, 2014!

Retailers across the city will be participating in the New Mexico Tax Holiday, but if you have any doubts about what is or is not included in the 2014 Tax Holiday, ask in stores before you begin shopping.

New Mexico Tax Holiday 2013: Friday Through Sunday

Comments Off on New Mexico Tax Holiday 2013: Friday Through Sunday

New Mexico Tax Holiday A reminder that this year’s New Mexico Tax Holiday starts on Friday, August 2, and ends at midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2013. I posted about this before, but if you missed it, here’s the recap.

During this gross receipts tax holiday, you will not be charged sales tax on a wide variety of items, which is especially helpful for parents as it makes back-to-school shopping a little more affordable!

There are many sub-categories in the eligible items, so to see what’s taxable and nontaxable, check out this PDF file giving New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax Holiday detailed listings of all items.

Retailers across the city will be participating, and sometimes they give you a tax break even on items not officially covered by absorbing the gross receipts tax themselves. But if you have any doubts about what is or is not included in the 2012 Tax Holiday, ask in stores before you begin shopping.

The Body Shop Coupon: $5 Off

July 16, 2013 by

Update: An even better deal at $10 off! Get $20 worth of Body Shop goodies for $10 using this limited time deal. This deal went live shortly after I posted about the Body Shop discount coupon below, but if you’re a fan of the Body Shop (or have gifts to buy as you can give this deal as a gift) then you’re better off with the half price deal.  The offer gives you $20 to spend in stores when you buy the Groupon certificate for $10, which as we can all work out is 50% savings.  You can buy up to 3 per person, and then spend the certificates by September 28, 2013.

If you missed that limited time and limited quantity offer, then continue on with the rest of this post to get $5 off a $25 purchase.

——————————————

Save on soaps, bath products, skincare, beauty and makeup with a Body Shop coupon to get $5 off, through July 2013.

I love The Body Shop, and am addicted to its Body Butters on through the dry days of summer. I especially like the original mango body butter and also the the satsuma – the fruity fragrances pep me up in the morning. The coconut one is lovely for summer as it always reminds me of the beach.  Either that or it makes me smell like a macaroon. Mr Cheap is too smart to tell me if it’s the latter.

Whatever you want to buy, print out this Body Shop coupon to get $5 off a purchase of $25 or more in stores through July 31, 2013.  You can also get the coupon at this page and click the link that says (surprise, surprise) ‘Click here for a printable coupon.’

Although the coupon is offered courtesy of the Coronado Center, the fine print says it is valid at all participating United States Body Shop locations.

The offer is for one coupon per customer, for purchases in stores only, not online. It can’t be used to buy gift cards,  you’ve got to buy actual product – which is never a problem for me. It also can’t be combined with any other promotions or offers. However, if you are a member of the Love Your Body program, the Body Shop coupon can be used with the Love Your Body membership discount.

The Body Shop sells skincare, soaps and bath products, fragrances, makeup and other beauty products… all those delicious things. From the skincare ranges, I like their Vitamin C moisturizer. It goes on very smoooothly and truly makes me look 19 again. Sorry, did I say 19? Looking in the mirror today, maybe I meant 91.

$5 off at The Body Shop? Yum! I love The Body Shop and all the bath goodies, soaps, makeup, and skin care products. I’m especially addicted to its Body Butters. The original mango body butter is a favorite and also the satsuma – the fruity fragrances pep me up in the morning.  In summer I use the coconut Body Butter, because it reminds me of suntan lotions, so I always feel like I’m heading to the beach. (Ha! Beach in New Mexico. Tingley Beach isn’t quite what I had in mind for my bikini.)

If you’re Body Shop shopping, print out this Body Shop coupon to get $5 off a purchase of $25 through April 30, 2013. Although the coupon is offered courtesy of the Coronado Center, it’s valid at all US Body Shop locations.

The offer is for one discount coupon per customer, for purchases in stores only, not online. It can’t be used to buy gift cards (you’ve got to buy actual product – which is never a problem for me). It also can’t be combined with any other promotions or offers, but can be used with the Love Your Body membership discount.

Free Shipping Day: December 17

Here’s a heads-up on how to get free shipping from online retailers, with delivery promised on or by Christmas Eve.

Free Shipping Day is on December 17, 2012, and over 1,200 stores are currently signed up to give customers free shipping on that day. They say delivery will be by Christmas Eve for addresses in the continental United States. Online merchants taking part include Lands’ End, LL Bean, Beauty.com, Eddie Bauer, The Cook’s Warehouse, Bed Bath & Beyond, Sears, Kohl’s, Harry & David, Best Buy, Radio Shack, REI, Cost Plus World Market, Tory Burch, Zappos, and a whole bunch more.

Many retailers will offer free holiday shipping on all orders. Others will have either a minimum order requirement, or offer free shipping on select items only. On Monday December 17 the full details of all participating merchants and the info on their offers will be shown on the Free Shipping Day website – but you know we’ll remind you too with a post on Monday highlighting some of the best shopping deals. (Subscribe to ABQ on the Cheap – it’s free! – to get our email digest of posts or to read by RSS feed.)

Amazon of course always offers free Super Saver Shipping on orders totaling $25 or more, valid on most items, and their holiday shipping dates show the last day for free Super Saver Shipping is December 18.

I’m always nervous of free shipping so close to Christmas as my Christmas tree has been left with holes under it in the past when the package didn’t roll in till after the Big Day. Now I generally pony up to pay shipping if it’s someone’s main gift, to avoid disappointment. However, the Free Shipping Day folk have said that many merchants will pay for expedited shipping to get it to shoppers by Christmas Eve. How cool is that?

I’d always encourage you to shop from local businesses, but if you shop online at the national retailers anyway, perhaps to send gifts to distant friends or relatives, Free Shipping Day is a chance to save a few dollars on gifts.

Comments Off on Hobby Lobby Coupon Save 40%

Stocking up on Christmas arts and craft supplies? Want to buy gifts for crafters in the family to use for sewing, beading, scrapbooking, or making a mosaic? Or maybe you just want to save dollars on craft items for new year school projects? This Hobby Lobby discount coupon is valid until Saturday December 15, 2012.

The Hobby Lobby 40% off coupon can be used on any one regularly priced item. Either print it for the store or use coupon code 8617 online, and this is a repeat use coupon – the deal lets each customer use the coupon once each day. If you’re shopping for fabric, they say that a single cut of fabric is the equivalent of one item. It excludes certain purchases such as gift cards, class fees and custom framing, so check the fine print.

Other Hobby Lobby discounts this week also include:

  • 50% off Home Accents such as glass, metal, and wood items, candles and candle holders, fragrance diffusers, and decorative crosses. (Excluding seasonal items.)
  • 50% off Christmas trees
  • 50% off Christmas gift wrap supplies and party items
  • 50% off Christmas floral and most any florals
  • 50% off framing in selected categories
  • 50% off selected jewelry-making supplies
  • 40% off paper crafting supplies
  • 30% off art supplies, including artist sets

No coupons are needed for these sales, they’re just ordinary promotions in stores through December 15. There are three Albuquerque Hobby Lobby stores.
