Comments Off on ABQ BioPark Military Discount

The Albuquerque BioPark military discount gives a price break to active and non-active military personnel visiting the BioPark Zoo, Aquarium, and Botanic Garden. That’s a very good move to thank our service men and women.

The ABQ BioPark military discount on tickets was introduced during 2012, and it gives $2 off adult admission and $1 off children’s admission. The discount is valid for active and non-active personnel, although you do of course need to show your military ID.  The ABQ BioPark military discount is only for general admission, not for any special events such as the concerts at the zoo.

Albuquerque BioPark regular admission for entry into either the Zoo, or the Aquarium and Botanic Garden is:

  • New Mexico residents: $9 for adults, $4.50 for seniors 65+, $4 for kids aged 3-12, and ages 2 and under go free.  Take your New Mexico ID to get the local admission rate.
  • Visitors who are not New Mexico residents: $12.50 for adults, $5.50 for seniors 65+, $4 for kids aged 3-12. And hey, they don’t discriminate against non-New Mexican kiddies. Tots ages 2 and under still go free.

A combo ticket for all BioPark locations is only available on Tuesday to Sunday mornings from 9 am to noon. That’s because if you don’t buy the combo ticket early in the day, you won’t have time to trip round all the BioPark venues anyway. The combo tickets include the fun mini-train rides between the locations.

For New Mexico residents the combo cost is $15 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $6 for kids. For out-of-state visitors, the combo cost is $20 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $6 for kids.

The BioPark’s Tingley Beach is always free for everyone, at 1800 Tingley Dr SW.

Albuquerque BioPark Zoo (formerly the Rio Grande Zoo) is located at 903 10th St. SW.  Albuquerque BioPark Aquarium and Botanic Garden is located at 2601 Central Avenue NW.

So all you locals, always remember to take your ID!  Tots aged 2 and under continue to go free.

It’s a great opportunity to see Rozie the elephant’s new baby elephant. The girl calf was born on October 2 and she has started to venture out into the yard for a few hours each day. You can see the baby elephant’s schedule here. She will be called either Jazmine, Roxy, Nita, or Chamiza. Got an opinion? Vote on your favorite name here at Facebook. I voted for Chamiza… because it’s a native plant but the Z pays fit nicely with other family names. I hope older sister Daizy doesn’t get too jealous of all the attention on the new arrival.

Military families listen up! Remember that military (both active and non-active) always get $2 off adult admission and $1 off children’s admission, with your military ID.

Daizy the Elephant Birthday Party

Daizy the elephant

ABQ BioPark Zoo celebrates Daizy the elephant’s birthday, and I can’t quite believe it’s her fourth birthday already. She’s growing up so fast she’ll be off to college soon. But indeed it is her birthday, so here’s how to celebrate with her…

ABQ BioPark Zoo holds the Daizy the Elephant birthday party on Saturday August 24, 2013, and you can find out all about these rare Asian elephants and how they are being protected.  The event runs from 10 am to 2 pm, and activities are included with zoo admission.

Expect Q&A with the elephant keeper, training demonstrations, and live music from The Anslovers. The elephants will also hunt for birthday treats and devour the fruit and hay birthday cakes. (It’s an entertaining sight.) Subway restaurants will provide the cakes for the elephants and also serve up cookies for the rest of us.

I went to Daizy the elephant’s birthday party last year and loved every minute of it. The memory of dancing elephants and Rozie (Daizy’s mom) playing Wild Thing on a guitar will stay with me always.

I doubt Rozie will be strumming the guitar this year as she is pregnant and probably can’t play the rock chick. That means Daizy the elephant is expecting a new sibling any time soon. Rozie is pregnant via artificial insemination from zoo-mate elephant Samson and blood tests suggest the new baby could be a girl.  No guarantees on the gender, but start thinking about girl elephant names in case the ABQ BioPark asks for suggestions! The calf is due any time between now and November, although zoo keepers have a hunch that the calf may come in mid-September.

Crikey, it’s more exciting than the baby watch for Princess Kate and Prince William, although the princess had a much shorter  gestation period. (Kate will be grateful for that!)

The Daizy the elephant birthday event and elephant conservation day activities on August 24 are included with ABQ BioPark Zoo regular admission:

  • New Mexico residents: $9 for adults, $4.50 for seniors 65+, $4 for kids aged 3-12, and ages 2 and under go free.  Take your New Mexico ID to get the locals’ admission rate.
  • Visitors who are not New Mexico residents: $12.50 for adults, $5.50 for seniors 65+, $4 for kids aged 3-12. Tots ages 2 and under still go free.
  • Military personnel (active and non-active) get $2 off adult admission and $1 off children’s admission, with your military ID.

ABQ BioPark Zoo (formerly the Rio Grande Zoo) is located at 903 10th Street SW.

Free Admission to Albuquerque BioPark for Kids

Free admission to Albuquerque Bio Park for kids this summer

Update 5/31: Cancelled! Sorry guys, it turns out that although this information was still showing on the ABQ BioPark website on May 30 when I posted this deal, I’ve learned from the press office people that they’ve discontinued the “Summer Mondays” discount that has been running for several years. They will NOT be offering free admission to kids on Mondays.

The BioPark has now removed that info from their FAQ page. I’ll leave this post up for a couple of days as a correction before removing it from ABQ on the Cheap.

Here’s a great way for children to enjoy free admission to Albuquerque BioPark Zoo, Aquarium, and Botanic Garden without breaking the bank this summer 2013!

Every Monday starting Monday June 3 through Monday August 26, 2013 , one paying adult can bring up to FOUR children into the ABQ BioPark Zoo (formerly the Rio Grande Zoo) or to the Albuquerque Aquarium and Botanic Garden with FREE admission to Albuqurque BioPark   for the kids.  The admission for the paying adult is $9 for New Mexico residents with ID, and $12.50 for out-of-state visitors. If you bring four kids with you, that adds up to a saving of $16. What a bargain!

This is a great summer deal for a family outing. Or use it for a playdate for the young ones. Or just turn up on the Mondays if you’d like to take advantage of an affordable option for visiting the zoo or aquarium. Note that the deal only applies to the admission price, and a child admission is for ages 3 to 12.

The offer (which is tucked away in the BioPark’s FAQ under “School Field Trips and Group Scheduling”!) begins the Monday after Memorial Day and ends the Monday before Labor Day.

Children aged under 3 always get free admission to Albuquerque BioPark, and of course the BioPark’s Tingley Beach is also always free for everyone.

Mama’s taking us to the zoo tomorrow, the zoo tomorrow, the zoo tomorrow… Let’s all sing along and enjoy this great summer deal that gives parents and others offering child care a price break this summer!
