NM Rail Runner Free Shakespeare on the Train

Comments Off on NM Rail Runner Free Shakespeare on the Train

If you’re taking the New Mexico Rail Runner Express to Santa Fe one of these summer weekends, try to time your trip for one of the Saturday trains when you can enjoy free performances of Shakespeare.

Every Saturday through July and August 2011, the UNM Department of Theatre and Dance takes to the stage aboard the train with scenes from Shakespeare.

Expect romance scenes through mid-July, followed by scenes from Shakespeare’s comedies to the end of August.  The performances themselves are free, but you do need a rail ticket to ride the train.

The Shakespeare on the Rail shows are only on two Saturday trains, and during specific segments of the journey:

  • #506 Northbound – between Downtown ABQ station (departing 2:38 pm) and Santa Fe Depot.
  • #509 Southbound – between Santa Fe Depot (departing 4:32 pm) and Los Ranchos/The Journal Center.

Find the bard’s players in the first railcar behind the locomotive, in the bottom floor.

Train schedule and ticket information is at the New Mexico Rail Runner Express website.

PLUS: Mark your calendars for the Father’s Day special, when dads ride free at Cliff’s Amusement Park all day on a Ride Pass, when they bring one (or more) paying child. Or the paying child brings dad, depending on how you look at it.  The required purchase is a regularly priced Ride Pass for the kid to get the freebie for dad.

Cliff’s website is showing the Father’s Day special as valid on June 21, 2011, at the time I write this post, but as Father’s Day is actually on June 19, I’m not sure if they’ve tangled up their dates, or are just running the offer for dads on the Tuesday instead. I suspect the former.
