Page One Bookstore  is throwing a Customer Appreciation Day on Saturday April 27 with hot dogs, cake, and a book deal. I believe this coincides with the bookstore’s anniversary too… I reckon they’re 32 years old in Albuquerque this year!

As a writer and avid reader I’m especially keen to support our independent bookstores, and this is a very good time to be supporting Page One… especially when you can save money too. They’ve just won Best of Burque for the bookstore category.

The Page One Customer Appreciation Day  on Saturday April 27,  2013, promises free hot dogs and cake from 12 noon to 6 pm, while supplies last. According to an email, they’re also offering a deal on books all day: Buy 3 books and you get one free.

At 3 pm, during the celebration party, author Christine Barber will be reading from and signing copies of her new book: When the Devil Doesn’t Show. Barber is a former recipient of the Tony Hillerman Prize for a mystery novel.

You can also print out this Page One $5 Off Coupon to save $5 on any $30 or more purchase, whether new or used.  It’s valid till April 30, so take it along if you’re going to the birthday party! For ABQ on the Cheap readers with a smart phone or other internet enabled doohickey, you don’t even have to print this coupon. Just show it on your “web capable mobile device” to get the $5 discount.

That gives you plenty of excuses to go and be appreciated!

Looking ahead, I also notice that May 4 offers a sale on all Star Wars items for fans of the Star Wars movies. (And who isn’t?) On May 4, Page One will give a 20% discount on all Star Wars merchandise, including the cookbooks, Lego sets, the Thrawn trilogy, and whatever other Star Wars themed stuff they have in stock.

Page One $5 Off Coupon and Free Events

Comments Off on Page One $5 Off Coupon and Free Events

Book Coupon Page OneAs a writer and avid reader I’m always keen to support Albuquerque’s locally-owned independent bookstores and their initiatives to encourage people to read more. Especially when we save money too!

Print out this Page One coupon to save $5 on any $30 purchase until November 30, 2012, whether it’s a new or used item.  It could come in handy if you’re shopping for yourself, or if you’re starting your holiday gift shopping.

For ABQ on the Cheap readers with a smart phone, iPad, or other internet enabled doohickey, you don’t even have to use the Page One printable coupon. Just show it on your “web capable mobile device” to the cashier to get the $5 discount.

Page One runs a Self-Published and Local Albuquerque Author Fair on the first Saturday of each month from 3 pm to 5 pm, with local authors selling their books, so that’s a good opportunity to turn up and learn more about some Albuquerque writers.

This Saturday November 10 at 3pm, local author Paul Christman discusses his novel The Purple Runner, originally published in 1983 and now in its second edition printing. Apparently it’s reputed to be one of the top 10 novels about running, but what would I know? The only thing I run for is the phone. Christman was the editor of Running Stats, and has written for Running Times, Marathon & Beyond, Athletics Weekly, and the Santa Fe Reporter. So if you’re into running and reading (not necessarily at the same time) it sounds like he’s your man.

Page One also holds the Adobe Walls Open Mic Night & Poetry Reading on the second Tuesday evening of each month, starting at 7 pm (sign up for the open mic from 6:45 pm). The event is (of course) free, and on Tuesday November 13, the 30-minute open mic hosted by Kenneth P. Gurney is followed by a reading by Jim Nye, a military man and the author of After Shock: Poems and Prose from the Vietnam War,  so it’s apt timing following Veterans Day.

Bookworks and Page One Holiday Deals

Book Coupon Page OneA Page One bookstore coupon and a Bookworks gift with purchase make holiday shopping a little easier on the pocket!

As a writer and avid reader I’m always keen to support initiatives to help people read more. And I’m especially keen to support our local owned independent bookstores…. especially when we save money too.

Print out this Page One coupon to save $5 on any $30 purchase until December 31, 2011.  It could come in handy if you’re shopping for yourself, or if you’re looking for holiday gifts, and it’s valid on both new and used purchases.

For Albuquerque on the Cheap readers with a smart phone or other internet enabled doohickey, you don’t even have to use the Page One printable coupon. Just show it on your “web capable mobile device” to the cashier to get the $5 discount.

Over at Bookworks, they’re giving a free gift with purchases this holiday season. Spend $50-75 and receive a free copy of Christmas in New Mexico to keep or give. When you spend $75-100, the freebie is the Book Lover’s 2012 Desk Calendar. Shop for more than $125, and they’ll give you both gifts! Bookworks also offer free gift-wrapping on request.

I think I’ve had that Book Lover’s calendar before, or one very like it. I really enjoyed that calendar, and I need to add it to my Christmas wish list.  If I don’t plan in advance, I end up buying a calendar…. oooh, about February, when the only choices left are the ones nobody else wants (and usually for a reason).

Comments Off on Free Social Media Marketing Talk: January 26

Here’s a free event for our readers who also run a business and want to know how to use Facebook for something more useful than FarmVille or Mafia Wars. (Ducking the FarmVille fans who are throwing cyber chickens at me.)

This Social Media Marketing event at Page One bookstore on Thursday January 26 is led by Jan Zimmerman, author of Social Media Marketing for Dummies All-in-One, and owner of the Albuquerque company Watermelon Mountain Web Marketing.

Zimmerman will be talking about using social media to get and keep customers, make sales, and boost your bottom line. (I won’t make a joke about how my bottom line is already rather boosted from eating too many pies over the holidays. No. That would be beneath me. Literally.)

No doubt you can also buy copies of her book and ask her to sign them for you.

Social Media Marketing event

  • When: Thursday January 26, 2011
  • Time: 6:30 pm
  • Where: Page One bookstore
  • Price: Free!

If you do plan to buy books, don’t forget to use this Page One coupon to save $5 on any $30 purchase. It’s valid on new or used items, till January  31 2011. Either print it out or show it on your “web capable mobile device” to the cashier to get the $5 discount.
