Sierra Club membership usually starts at $25 per person, but if you join online right now, they’re giving discounted membership at the special offer price of $15, plus you get a free Sierra Club  backpack. The rugged backpack looks perfect for expeditions into the wilderness, and to contain all your sandwiches and chips.  (Because after all, the whole point of a hike is the PICNIC!)

The Discounted Sierra Club Membership also includes a year’s subscription to Sierra magazine, plus membership in your local Chapter (the Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter, or there are others in New Mexico if you’re an out-of-town reader). Members also get discounts with partner businesses including Pharmaca, Columbia sportswear, and Whirlpool Outlet appliances, and discounts on Sierra Club goods including books and calendars. I’m not sure how long the Sierra Club special offer membership deal is available, so join fast if you’re interested.

The Sierra Club works to protect America’s wild and untamed places, and we have plenty of those around here. My fridge would probably qualify right now with all the Christmas leftovers stacked in it.

Curves Free Week Guest Pass: Limited Time

Comments Off on Curves Free Week Guest Pass: Limited Time

Get a Curves free one week pass, only for new visitors to Curves clubs. This proved a popular deal when I mentioned it back in the spring, although quantities were capped and the offer ran out fast.  But it’s back for a limited time. UPDATE: This deal has now expired and links to the free pass are removed.

The Curves women-only fitness and weight-loss clubs claim that their 30-minute strength training and cardio workout exercises every major muscle group and burns up to 500 calories. Which by my calculation means I can enjoy a few more of our weekly food freebies and deals  isn’t that how it works?

Here at Cheap Central the temptation is more often to go for the coffee pot than go for the burn, and if someone mentions major muscle groups, I immediately think of the Chippendales. BUT in this season of lavish feasting, any way to keep my svelte (ha!) figure catches my attention.

For a limited time, you can get a free Curves one week guest pass to see if the Curves program is a good fit for you. This offer is only for new members, with no contracts and commitments, and it can be used for a free week guest pass on your first visit, or exchanged for a membership discount. The pass is valid until December 23, 2012.

The Curves free week pass is valid at participating locations – plug in your zip code for the nearest clubs. I see at least 9 participating Albuquerque Curves, including Bernalillo and Los Lunas.

Curves clubs are all franchises, independently owned and operated by locals.

I am now going to assess my major muscle groups. (Shh! Don’t tell Mr Cheap. )

And sorry to the fellas –  Curves clubs are for women only.

NatureWorks & Museum of Natural History & Science Deal

Comments Off on NatureWorks & Museum of Natural History & Science Deal

Two deals from the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science…

Get 10% off your purchase at the Museum’s NatureWorks Discovery Store through December 31, when you take in your ticket stub from the DynaTheater or the Planetarium.

I love the museum gift store! It’s packed with such unusual toys and games for kids (I picked up some great Christmas stocking-stuffers for $5 or less, although I want to play with them myself) as well as gifts for grown-ups.  The gift store is free to visit (no museum admission needed) and if you go in say Hi to manager Beth and her staff. They know the merchandise very well and can advise on gift ideas.

To get the 10% discount, you don’t have to shop on the same day as your visits to the DynaTheater or Planetarium, just keep the stub/receipt and take it in to the store by December 31, 2011. The DynaTheater is currently showing the 3D movies The Light Before Christmas, Tornado Alley, and The Ultimate Wave Tahiti.

Museum members always receive a 10% discount at NatureWorks, and they get 20% off on the 20th of every month.

Speaking of which, two New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science membership deals are up for grabs:

  • Current members get a $5 discount if they renew by December 31, 2011, or a $10 discount when renewing for two years, or upgrading a membership. (If your renewal isn’t due yet, it’s fine to renew in advance.)
  • Members who give a gift membership for the holidays, receive a free extra month added to their own membership, also through December 31.

The membership is actually to the New Mexico Museum of Natural History Foundation, and benefits include free admission to the Museum of Natural History and Science, as well as to 350+ partner museums internationally, plus other discounts and perks at the link.

New Mexico Museum of Natural and Science is located in Albuquerque Old Town at 1801 Mountain Road NW.

Hyatt Regency Tamaya Pathways Discounts

Comments Off on Hyatt Regency Tamaya Pathways Discounts

Tamaya Mist Pathways gives discounts on spa treatments and dining, plus special offers, and other member benefits.

The Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa Tamaya Mist Pathways membership program gives discounts that are just as good for locals who like to use the spa or dine in the resort restaurants as they are for visitors to Albuquerque staying at the resort.

I’ve joined and receive monthly emails with special offers, although they’ve scaled back on the Pathways benefits since I first joined last year. (No more 15% off room rates, for example, which feels a bit annoying when you’ve signed up expecting the promised discounts to continue for a while.)

However, it’s free to sign up for Tamaya Mist Pathways and members get:

  • $10 resort credit on joining the program (use it in a restaurant/spa/against a room payment etc.)
  • 15% off treatments at the Tamaya Mist Spa
  • 15% off dining at the fine dining Corn Maiden restaurant or more casual Santa Ana Cafe
  • 15% off Twin Warriors golf apparel (excluding clothing on sale)

You need to provide your email address to join Tamaya Mist Pathways and members also receive monthly updates on events and special offers.

Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa is located at 1300 Tuyuna Trail, Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico.  Take exit 242 from I-25 to Bernalillo heading west, you can’t miss the resort signs 2.4 miles along on the right.

Sierra Club membership usually starts at $25 per person, but if you join online right now, they’re giving discounted membership at the special offer price of $15, plus you get a free gift, either a black Expedition backpack or a Sierra Club 1892 rucksack.  Apparently the latter is the same style that founder John Muir used. I bet he didn’t get Pringles chip crumbs all in the bottom of his rucksack like I do whenever I go hiking. (Because after all, the whole point of a hike is the PICNIC!)

Different Sierra Club pages give different free gifts, but both include a year’s subscription to Sierra magazine:

Members also receive membership in their local Chapter (the Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter, or there are others in New Mexico if you’re an out-of-town reader) and discounts on Sierra Club goods including books and calendars. We’re not sure how long this Sierra Club special offer membership deal is available, so join fast if you’re interested.
