The Los Ranchos de Albuquerque Lavender in the Village festival includes live entertainment, cooking demos, how to grow lavender, lavender crafts and activities, and plenty for the kids to do. This sweet summer festival skipped a year in 2011, so it’s great to see it back again this year!

  • Lavender crafts and activities
  • Cooking with lavender demonstrations
  • Live music including Muddy River String Band, Watermelon Mountain Jug Band, and The Todd Tijerina Band
  • Kids’ activities including face painting, water play, storytelling, and a baby animals petting area

  • Wine tours of Casa Rondeña Winery
  • Author events
  • Family Fun Run/Walk on July 15 at 8 am (fee required to participate)
  • And of course, lots of lavender goodies to buy!

Check out the Lavender in the Village Festival schedule as there’s far too much going on to mention it all here.

Admission is a sweet deal too – $3 for adults, $2 for kids, and admission is free for children under age 10.

However, it is free to visit the Los Ranchos Growers’ Market which happens on Saturday July 14 from 7 am to 1 pm, with expert presentations on growing and cooking with lavender and garlic, and making lavender wands. (Village Hall, 6718 Rio Grande Boulevard NW.)

The Agri-Nature Center is the hub of the event, with the entertainment stage, demonstrations, author talks, and kids’ area and activities. Shuttles will be available between the Agri-Nature Center and the other major venues.

Lavender in the Village admission includes activities at all locations except a few special events, such as participation in the fun run.

Lavender in the Village Festival takes place:

  • When: July 14 and July 15, 2012
  • Time: 8 am to 4 pm both days
  • Where: Various Los Ranchos locations, with The Agri-Nature Center as the focus for many events and entertainment, but also including the Growers’ Market, Casa Rondeña Winery, and some Antique Mile / 4th Street merchants.

The Los Ranchos Growers and Arts & Crafts Markets have a tempting offer this week: learn how to make simple soft ice cream at home, plus enjoy FREE ice cream and fresh fruit samples. Sounds like a winner!

If that’s not enough to entice you to check out this market, here are two more great reasons: Bee Bee the clown will be on site, offering face painting for kids, and there will be music by Art & Michael.

The Los Ranchos Growers and Arts & Crafts Markets feature locally grown produce, eggs, honey, baked goods, and more — along with locally made bird houses, soaps, jewelry, traditional tin work, and much, much more!

The markets are open every Saturday from 7:00 – 11:00am and are located in the tennis court parking lot at 6718 Rio Grande Blvd NW, Albuquerque.

The Los Ranchos Growers’ and Arts & Crafts Markets have always been known for their healthy,  locally grown produce, local honey, and other good-for-you stuff. But this coming weekend, they’re plunging into health and wellness in a BIG way!

On Saturday, June 20 (2009), from 7:00 – 11:00am, head over to the Los Ranchos Markets for a full-blown FREE wellness fair. Confirmed participants (more may be coming onboard) include:

  • Bernalillo County Extension Nutrition Educators
  • MRCOG — trails info
  • UNM Cancer Center
  • UNM College of Nursing
  • UNM Center for Life (preventive and integrative specialty clinic)
  • Victory Gardening Services

…and many others we don’t have room to list! You’ll be able to score tons of free information (and, we suspect, free samples) from a bunch of additional vendors.

On the growers’ market side, you may find blackberries, sugar snap peas, spinach, chard, kale, micro greens, cabbage, radishes, young summer squash, farm fresh eggs, potted herbs, organic jams — and many other tasty treats! And don’t forget the arts and crafts market, where you’ll find:

  • Ornaments
  • Pottery
  • Japanese porcelain
  • Soy candles
  • Handpainted silk scarves
  • Handmade soaps
  • Hand crafted jewelry

…and, again, way too much for us to mention! It’s all free to the public.

You’ll find the Los Ranchos Growers’ and Arts & Crafts Markets in the tennis court parking lot at 6718 Rio Grande Blvd NW, Albuquerque.

Full disclosure: ABQ on the Cheap is a minor sponsor of the Los Ranchos Arts & Crafts Market; we run a free text ad for them at the bottom of each post.
