New Mexico Restaurant Week 2013

Comments Off on New Mexico Restaurant Week 2013

New Mexico Restaurant Week 2013 offering savings at fave restaurants in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos. Don’t be confused by the name though, as the Restaurant Week promotion actually runs over three weeks from February 24 to March 17. Who says we can’t count in New Mexico? Hmm, we may not count so well, but we eat FABULOUSLY, especially when it’s on the cheap!

The 2013 New Mexico Restaurant Week promotion offers multi-course menus for a flat rate, with several options in each course, including vegetarian choices at some restaurants.  Dinners are usually three courses, and some restaurants offer lunch menus too. Depending on the restaurant, dinners are priced at $20, $30, or $40 per person, and some restaurants will offer a super-bargain meal at $25 for two people.

It’s a great opportunity to eat out at some places you haven’t tried before, and the fixed price menus are especially good value at the more upscale places, compared to their regular à la carte menus. Reservations are heartily recommended where possible.  Participating hotels in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Taos are also offering special rates during Restaurant Week.

NM Restaurant Week 2013 runs in a different city each week.

Santa Fe Restaurant Week is from February 24 to March 3. Participating Santa Fe restaurants include Restaurant Martin (one of my favorites), The Compound, Geronimo, Anasazi Restaurant, Jambo Cafe, Blue Corn Cafe, the always lively Cowgirl BBQ, and both Plaza Cafe locations.

Taos Restaurant Week is from March 3 to March 10. Choices include El Meze, where Chef Fred Muller can be relied upon to serve up the sublime; Doc Martin’s Restaurant in the Taos Inn (I’m pleased to see their delish Chile Relleno is on the menu); El Monte Sagrado Resort and Spa, and The Gorge Bar & Grill, which is owned by the same folk who run Seasons/Zinc/Savoy in Albuquerque.

Albuquerque Restaurant Week is from March 10 to March 17. They’re saving the best till last, huh? Some of my fave participating restaurants include Artichoke Cafe, Scalo, Lucia at Hotel Andaluz, Zinc Wine Bar & Bistro, Gold Street Caffe, Sandiago’s Mexican Grill at the Tramway and High Finance at the very t-o-p of the Tramway, and both locations of Jinja Bar & Bistro.

Other restaurants are still joining the party, so no doubt there will be more options for dining on the cheap nearer the time. Some foodie and cooking events are also planned, although right now they are only listing Santa Fe cooking events, and I wouldn’t call them bargain basement, although they look like fun experiences.

For example, How to Make Gnocchi Like an Italian Grandmother (Feb 24) and How to Make Fresh Pasta (Feb 26), both at Terra Restaurant at the Four Seasons Rancho Encantado resort, and The Art of Making Empanadas at Anasazi Restaurant (Feb 26). These Santa Fe events all cost $20. I’m sorely tempted by the Sake Seminar and Tasting at Shohko Cafe on February 26, with admission at $18 and if you stay for dinner you get $5 off a bottle or a demi of sake.

Online reservations are required for events as tickets are limited. Find out more at the New Mexico Restaurant Week website.

Comments Off on Bishops Lodge Ranch Resort & Spa Deals

Choose from two deals at Bishop’s Lodge Ranch Resort & Spa in Santa Fe to celebrate their 95th anniversary year, using the promo codes.

I’ve stayed at Bishop’s Lodge Ranch Resort and Spa and gave it a good review in a city guide I wrote for AOL Travel. It’s a gorgeous property.   The resort is in a beautiful location in the peaceful Tesuque Valley surrounded by Santa Fe National Forest, yet it’s only about a 5 minute drive from Santa Fe Plaza. (Yes, I’ve timed it.) It has a pretty good restaurant too.  If you’re looking for a Santa Fe getaway, these two deals could help you save some dollars:

1) Rooms from $95 per night to kick off the 95th anniversary year using the promo code 95ANN
According to an email, the  rate is for a traditional room, for dates from December 14 – 20, 2012, and January 1 – 31, 2013.

2) Stay 2 nights get the 3rd night free using the promo code BACKTOTHERANCH
The offer is valid on Sundays through Thursdays until April 30, 2013. The third night free deal excludes holidays.

Book online at the website or contact the Bishop’s Lodge Ranch Resort and Spa in Santa Fe directly to make a reservation by phone on 1-800-768-3586.

Inn on The Alameda Santa Fe 3rd Night $27

Comments Off on Inn on The Alameda Santa Fe 3rd Night $27

Santa Fe Inn on the AlamedaSanta Fe’s Inn on the Alameda celebrates its 27th anniversary with a special 3rd night for $27 promotion until February 28, 2013.

Planning a Santa Fe getaway this winter? If you stay two nights you get the third night for $27 in any room or suite with this Inn on the Alameda promotion rate.

Lodging deal details:

  • The offer is good on stays between October 28, 2012, and February 28, 2013, on three consecutive nights.
  • Multiple third night $25 rates apply – eg if you stay 6 or 9 nights, you get the discount rate for the 6th and 9th nights too.
  • You can use it for stays in any room or suite.
  • Blackout dates are around the holidays and major events: November 21-24,
    November 28-December 2, December 21-January 1, February 14-17, and February 22-24.
  • The special room rate can’t be combined with other packages or with AAA/AARP discounts.

According to the email I received, you’re supposed to be able to book this deal on the web at the Inn on the Alameda reservations page, but when I did a dummy run the 3rd night discount didn’t show up on the first few pages before I had to give payment info and I abandoned the trial. So you might be advised to call up and talk to a real person. Call Inn on the Alameda, and as we’re cheapskates we’ll use the toll free number 888-335-3410 to request the anniversary third night for $27 promotion rate.

I’ve stayed at this Santa Fe Inn, and reviewed it (positively!) in the course of my regular travel writing work. I found it very comfortable and attractive, and it’s just a short walk from Santa Fe Plaza – a boon to me as my feet always ache after a day of exploring the City Different. (Yes, even when I’m wearing sensible shoes.) Room rates include a continental breakfast buffet, a free afternoon wine and cheese reception, free parking and local calls, and free wireless internet access.

Inn on the Alameda is located at 303 East Alameda, Santa Fe.

Nativo Lodge Hotel Second Night Free & Other Promos

July 26, 2012 by

Albuquerque’s Nativo Lodge deals include a second night free, a New Mexico resident discount, and a third night for a cut-price $19.12.

Locals will recognize the Nativo Lodge from the colorful patterns on the exterior, you can see it from I-25 near the San Mateo intersection. The rooms are decked out with Native American style furnishings, and I can tell you from experience that the beds are rather plush. I know because I tested a bed purely for research purposes while writing the hotels chapter for my guidebook Insiders’ Guide to Albuquerque. Oh, how I suffer for my work…

Right now they’re offering a second night free at Nativo Lodge when you pay for one night. You can upgrade to a deluxe room with this deal for an extra $10. Book online or call for reservations using the promo code: FREE

I’m told this offer runs on dates till August 31, 2012, but I just tried a test booking on a room to stay in September and the promo code worked for that too, so maybe it’s on bookings made BY the end of August. Not sure, but if you’re interested hop over there fast and see what you can get!

Other current Nativo Lodge hotel deals are:

  • New Mexico Residents get 20% off the best available room rate with no minimum stay, using the promo code: NMLOCAL
  • New Mexico Centennial Package with the third night stay for $19.12 (because NM’s state centennial celebrates the year 1912) when you book for three consecutive nights, plus a dining discount card the hotel restaurant and bar. Use the promo code: CENTENNIAL
  • Stay three nights or more and get a $30 dining credit at the hotel’s Spirit Winds Cafe using the promo code: STAYMORE  – although I think if you’re staying three nights you’re better off with the Centennial Package.

Nativo Lodge also offers a Pet Friendly Hotel Package (from $119) which waives the usual pet fee, and gives a doggie bag with treats and toys. You have to phone up and speak to an actual person to request that one.

For hotel deals, either book at Nativo Lodge online or call 1-888-628-4861. Promotions can’t be combined.

And if you’re going, use this printable coupon to get 50% off Nativo Lodge food, good on one food item purchase.

Nativo Lodge is located at 6000 Pan American Freeway NE, Albuquerque, near the I-25 and San Mateo intersection.

15% Off Promo Code for 6 New Mexico Hotels

Comments Off on 15% Off Promo Code for 6 New Mexico Hotels

Use the promo code to get 15% off room rates at all six Heritage Hotels & Resorts properties in New Mexico.

The discount deal at Heritage Hotels & Resorts saves you 15% off the best rates for their six New Mexico hotels when you use the promo code:  ADVENTURE

The hotels are:

  • Hotel Albuquerque near Albuquerque Old Town. I’ve stayed here for conferences and also research purposes when writing travel articles, and the decor and hotel is very attractive and comfy, with super-helpful staff.
  • Nativo Lodge in Albuquerque Locals will recognize the Nativo Lodge from the colorful patterns on the exterior, you can see it from I-25 near the San Mateo intersection. The rooms are decked out with Native American style furnishings, and I can tell you from experience that the beds are rather plush  😉
  • The Lodge at Santa Fe featuring handcrafted furnishings and original artwork, free wi-fi, a bar and lounge, and an outdoor pool and hot tub. It’s a five minute drive to Santa Fe Plaza.
  • Hotel St. Francis in Santa Fe is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, just a short block from the Plaza. (And right opposite one of my fave Santa Fe restaurants, Cafe Pasqual’s.) I’ve nosed around since they gave the hotel its elegant make-over and think they’ve done a lovely job. I haven’t stayed there, but I’ve often enjoyed the atmosphere in the bar.
  • Hotel Chimayo de Santa Fe which used to be the Hotel Plaza Real. I haven’t stayed in the new incarnation of the hotel, but I did stay when it was the Hotel Plaza Real, and you can’t beat the location, just off Santa Fe Plaza. I also like the bar and patio – a very good spot for people-watching.
  • Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces in (as you would guess) Las Cruces. Anyone been there? Let us know in the comment box below. It’s on my list of places to try out!

Links to all the New Mexico Heritage Hotels & Resorts are at their website, where you can plug in the promo code ADVENTURE to see room rates after the 15% discount is applied.

Info on the promo arrived via email, and I don’t know how long the promo code is valid for, or how far ahead you can book and still get the discount. However, I did a test run for various dates through November, including during Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in October, and the discount appeared just fine! Some blackout dates may apply.

If you go, also check out the hotel coupons for dining discounts and freebies at each of these New Mexico properties.

New Mexico Restaurant Week

March 1, 2012 by

Comments Off on New Mexico Restaurant Week

New Mexico Restaurant Week actually runs over four weeks in March – offering savings at fave restaurants in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos. (Who says we can’t count in New Mexico? Hmm, we may not count so well, but we eat FABULOUSLY, especially when it’s on the cheap!)

The 2012 New Mexico Restaurant Week promotion offers multi-course menus for a flat rate, with several options in each course, including vegetarian choices at some restaurants.  Dinners are usually three courses, and those restaurants offering lunch vary between two or three courses.

It’s a great opportunity to eat out at some places you haven’t tried before, and the fixed price menus are especially good value at the more upscale places, compared to their regular a la carte menus. Reservations are heartily recommended where possible.

NM Restaurant Week 2012 runs in a different city each week.

Santa Fe Restaurant Week is from March 4 – 11. Participating Santa Fe restaurants include:

  • Vinaigrette ($25 dinner)
  • Vanessie of Santa Fe ($35 dinner)
  • Anasazi Restaurant ($30 dinner / $20 lunch)
  • Restaurant Martin is one of my favorites ($35 dinner / $20 lunch)
  • The Compound ($45 dinner)
  • Geronimo ($45 dinner)
  • Jambo Cafe ($19.95 dinner / $16.95 lunch)
  • The Palace Restaurant – another personal fave with excellent flavors by chef Joseph Wrede ($30 dinner)
  • Santacafe ($35 dinner includes a glass of Gruet fizz or sparkling cider plus tea or coffee)
  • Cowgirl BBQ ($19.95 dinner)

Albuquerque Restaurant Week is from March 18 – 25. Some of my fave participating restaurants include:

  • Pars Cuisine ($26 dinner including wine/tea/coffee and $13 lunch)
  • Artichoke Cafe ($35 dinner / $18 lunch)
  • Scalo ($22.50 lunch)
  • Zinc Wine Bar & Bistro ($34 dinner)
  • Jinja Bar & Bistro  both locations ($21 dinner / $13 lunch)
  • St Clair Winery & Bistro ($30 dinner including wine sample with each of three courses!)
  • Seasons Rotisserie & Grill ($30 dinner / $15 lunch)
  • Sandiago’s Mexican Grill at the Tramway, which you’ve just got to love for the sunset views… and the $20 PER COUPLE dinner menu!

I know more Albuquerque restaurants participated in Restaurant Week last year than I see in the list for 2012. Some heavy-hitters are sadly missing. But maybe they’ll come on board later. I’ll update nearer the time!

Taos Restaurant Week is from March 25 – April 1.  The knockout choice here among participating Taos restaurants so far is El Meze, where Chef Fred Muller can be relied on to serve up the sublime ($35 dinner).  I can’t see a menu price yet for The Gorge Bar & Grill, but it’s in a cool spot and it’s owned by the same folk who run Seasons/Zinc/Savoy in Albuquerque.

If you’re wondering about the missing week? That’s Las Cruces Restaurant Week from March 11 – 18, but there’s only one restaurant playing (Double Eagle) and it’s a bit out of the way for most of us anyhow.

The promo mentions New Mexico lodging deals and foodie events to coincide with these weeks, but right now most of the action is around Santa Fe and even they’re pretty vague on hotel deal details. Maybe we’ll get more on board for Albuquerque, and I’ll keep you posted of anything super-special. Meanwhile, if you’re interested, keep an eye on the details at the New Mexico Restaurant Week website.

Comments Off on Santa Fe Stay $129 With $30 Food Credit & Bottle Wine

This Hotel St. Francis Santa Fe package for $129 is only available to purchase for a short time, for a stay for two people near Santa Fe Plaza through April 30, 2012.

The Hotel St. Francis deal is $129 for one night for two people in a in a Centennial Classic King room, plus you get a $30 food and beverage credit in the hotel, a bottle of red or white wine when you arrive, and also a CD with music by New Mexico performers. PLUS they throw in free private parking, and if you’ve tried to park in Downtown Santa Fe recently for more than 5 minutes, you’ll know that’s a gift! They reckon the total package via Living Social is worth $232 and it sounds like a nice little Santa Fe getaway to me.

The Hotel St. Francis is a Heritage Hotel and Resort property listed on the National Register of Historic Places, just a short block from the Plaza. (And right opposite one of my fave Santa Fe restaurants, Cafe Pasqual’s.) I’ve nosed around since they gave the hotel an elegant make-over and think they’ve done a lovely job on it. I haven’t stayed there, but I’ve often enjoyed the atmosphere in the bar 😉

Get the St. Francis Hotel $129 package via Living Social, available to purchase now, and then you can stay through April 30, 2012.  Note the blackout dates of March 25 to April 2, and check all the fine print at the bottom to make sure it’s a good deal for you. You can only use one certificate per stay, and room tax is extra, paid during your visit.  There’s also an option to upgrade to a Centennial Deluxe Room with the same package at $162.

I’m quite tempted to talk Mr Cheap into this one! Not that he’ll need much talking if I promise him lots of good Santa Fe cuisine.
