The YMCA offers a discount on its joining fee in the month of May 2013. That’s a good spring gift for your body, without giving your wallet too much of a workout!
The YMCA of Central New Mexico membership deal is a Pay the Day in May offer on its joining fee, meaning you pay an amount according to the day you join. If you join on May 3, you pay $3. If you join on May 15 you pay $15. You can do the math on the rest. The usual joining fee is $50, so that’s a decent discount, and obviously the sooner you join, the more you save!
New members can also take advantage of the FitStart six-week program to kick-start their exercise regime, under the guidance of a FitStart Coach.
Once you’ve got the joining fee deal, monthly fees range from $32 to $49 for individuals according to age. It’s even cheaper to sign up in bulk: a senior couple pays $44 a month instead of $37 each, a family membership is $62 a month, and a single parent family pays $51.
They also have a form to get a free pass for 3 days at this YMCA of Central New Mexico website link. If you don’t see it at first, refresh the page until you do, as they’re rotating the promo banners.
OK, I’m doing the YMCA song and dance with my arms… But I’ll stop now because a) they must get fed up with it and b) it makes it very difficult to type.
The YMCA of Central New Mexico Pay the Day joining fee offer is valid when you take out a membership in May 2013. That includes Albuquerque YMCA locations Horn Family YMCA and McLeod Mountainside Family YMCA.

Free Spirit, Mind, Body, Money Talks

The YMCA of Central New Mexico hosts a series of guest speakers in March 2012 on the theme of Spirit, Mind, and Body. You don’t have to be a YMCA member to turn up – the talks are free to the general public.
The YMCA Spirit, Mind, and Body talks tackle how to manage all three in the midst of our busy lives. A couple of the talks relate to money too – I’m not sure if that speaks to spirit, mind, or body, but it’s sure hard to keep the stress levels down when cash is a concern.
So here’s the roster for March 21, 22, and 28, and all talks start at 6 pm:
- Mindfulness Meditation for health, healing, and stress reduction: Wednesday, March 21.
Led by Claudio Barrientos from The Mindful Center, which teaches practical, non-religious meditation techniques. Location: Horn Family YMCA. - A Plan for All Seasons – Financial Planning for Every Phase of Life: Thursday, March 22.
Led by Adriane Callinan from Waddell & Reed, which consults on financial planning, insurance, and retirement planning. Location: McLeod YMCA. - We Find Money Others Miss – Free Second Look Review: Wednesday, March 28
An H&R Block advisor gives your tax return a free Second Look Review to look for missed deductions and credits. The only money I ever find is down the back of the couch – so maybe you’ll get luckier with your tax return! Location: The Horn Family YMCA. - How I Learned to Laugh At Myself: Wednesday, March 28.
I’m not sure I need any teaching on this, as I frequently laugh at myself. And if I don’t, Mr Cheap does it for me. But this talk sounds rather fun, led by Shauna Rampley from Soaring Eagle Institute, a training & consulting company. Rampley specializes in helping people manage change and flexing that sense of humor muscle to deal with health or other life issues. Location: McLeod YMCA
See full details on the YMCA Spirit, Mind, and Body talks and all the free talks are open to the public as well as to members of the YMCA.
McLeod Mountainside YMCA is located at 12500 Comanche Road NE.
The Horn Family YMCA is at 4901 Indian School Road NE.

Free Thunderbirds Basketball Clinic for Kids
We love to shoot hoops. Sadly, we’re just a tad bit too old to participate in this free basketball camp.
But if you know a kid age 5-14, check this out!
The Albuquerque Thunderbirds, in conjuction with the Horn Family YMCA, will hold a free basketball clinic on Saturday, August 22 (2009), from 10:00 – 11:30am. But ya gotta pre-register before Thursday, August 20, by calling the Y at 265-6971. The good news? The first 75 participants to sign up will receive a free drawstring backpack and water bottle!
Thunderbirds head coach John Coffino will lead the kids through drills during the 90 minute session.
The Horn Family YMCA is located at 4901 Indian School Rd NE, Albuquerque.
