We all love our homes. But that doesn’t stop us wanting to rip down walls, redesign our kitchens, overhaul the bathroom, and install spas. Yes, remodeling is America’s obsession.

If you want to get some new ideas to give your own home a facelift, the Albuquerque Home and Remodeling Show is this weekend, January 17 and 18, 2015.

I’ve never been to this show so I don’t know what to expect of it, but I DO know that you can get in free if you go in the first hour each day. Visit the Albuquerque Home and Remodeling Show between 10 am and 11 am each day and admission is free.

After 11 am adult admission is $5. Kids aged under 12 get in free at all times. (Well, the poor little darlings have to get in free, don’t they? I’ve never known a child who actively enjoys going to home shows.)

The list of exhibitors includes all the things you’d expect to see at a home and remodeling show: bathrooms, kitchens,  sunrooms, landscaping, hot tubs and spas, windows and window coverings, floor coverings, home furnishings, and a lot more. You can talk with builders and contractors and find out about green and solar technologies too. It all happens at Expo New Mexico.

The January 2015 Albuquerque Home and Remodeling Shows runs on:

  • Saturday January 17 from 10 am to 5 pm
  • Sunday January 18 from 10 am to 4 pm
  • Admission is free before 11 am on both days

The Albuquerque Home and Remodeling Show is held in the Manuel Lujan Buildings at EXPO New Mexico, home of the New Mexico State Fairgrounds. If you drive there, the parking fee is $5.

Comments Off on ABQ Home Expo $2 Off Admission: August 23-24

The ABQ Home Expo returns for 2014 on the weekend of August 23 and 24, and you can get $2 off admission by buying tickets online in advance.

I’m pretty sure the ABQ Home Expo used to be called the ABQ Home and Lifestyle Expo way back in the dark ages. But whatever they choose to call it, we like to see discounted admission! So here’s the deal.

Get $2 off ABQ Home Expo adult admission at Expo New Mexico if you buy tickets online. That makes it $6 per ticket instead of $8 on the door. There’s no online discount for seniors’ and kids’ tickets for this show, but they cost less in the first place. Admission is $6 for seniors and kids.  Children aged 11 and under go free.

The August 2014 ABQ Home Expo runs on:

  • Saturday August 23 from 10 am to 5 pm
  • Sunday August 24 from 10 am to 4 pm.

I love these events because we get to see everything that’s new in home decor and improvements, kitchens, design trends, gadgets, products, and more. For the very first time, the Expo will feature a Local Artisan’s Market.

The ABQ Home Expo is held in the Manuel Lujan Buildings at EXPO New Mexico, home of the New Mexico State Fairgrounds. If you drive there, the parking fee is $5.

Christmas Light Trade-In

Comments Off on Christmas Light Trade-In

Christmas Tree Lights by BrihoHome Depot trades in used and broken Christmas lights for discounts on new sparkly lights – you need to take advantage of the deal by November 17!

The Home Depot Christmas light trade-in for old lights is such a great idea. Every year Mr Cheap pulls down last year’s lights from the box on top of the wardrobe, I plug them in, they don’t work. We plug them in to another socket, they still don’t work. We change the fuse in the plug. They still don’t work. I go through the whole strand checking every bulb is screwed in tight. They still don’t work. By now it’s Easter.

Sometimes it feels as if I might as well just throw away all the lights when I take the tree down, instead of carefully storing them for next year. But if we did that, we wouldn’t be able to trade the lights in for a discount!

With The Home Depot’s Christmas Light Trade-in you can take used or broken incandescent holiday light strings to The Home Depot store for recycling. In exchange you receive a discount of $3 to $5 on a new purchase of energy-efficient LED lights. Home Depot reckons that the Energy Star qualified lights use up to 65% less energy than incandescent lights. The discount options are:

  • $3 off Home Accents’ Holiday LED lights
  • $4 off Martha Stewart Living or GE LED lights
  • $5 off EcoSMART or Light Show LED lights

Find all the details in the Christmas Light Trade-In PDF. Each customer can take in up to five old incandescent light strings for a maximum of five discounts, by November 17, 2013.

Time to check out your holiday lights people… where did you put them? Sparkle on!

Stocking up on Christmas arts and craft supplies? Want to buy gifts for crafters in the family to use for sewing, beading, scrapbooking, or making a mosaic? Or maybe you just want to save dollars on craft items for new year school projects? This Hobby Lobby discount coupon is valid until Saturday December 15, 2012.

The Hobby Lobby 40% off coupon can be used on any one regularly priced item. Either print it for the store or use coupon code 8617 online, and this is a repeat use coupon – the deal lets each customer use the coupon once each day. If you’re shopping for fabric, they say that a single cut of fabric is the equivalent of one item. It excludes certain purchases such as gift cards, class fees and custom framing, so check the fine print.

Other Hobby Lobby discounts this week also include:

  • 50% off Home Accents such as glass, metal, and wood items, candles and candle holders, fragrance diffusers, and decorative crosses. (Excluding seasonal items.)
  • 50% off Christmas trees
  • 50% off Christmas gift wrap supplies and party items
  • 50% off Christmas floral and most any florals
  • 50% off framing in selected categories
  • 50% off selected jewelry-making supplies
  • 40% off paper crafting supplies
  • 30% off art supplies, including artist sets

No coupons are needed for these sales, they’re just ordinary promotions in stores through December 15. There are three Albuquerque Hobby Lobby stores.

Free Interior Design Advice at Kirklands Opening

October 2, 2012 by

The Kirkland’s home decor and gifts store debuts in Albuquerque, with a grand opening this weekend October 6 and 7, 2012.

I’d never heard of Kirkland’s before they sent me a press release, but that may not be surprising as although they have more than 300 stores nationwide, the new Albuquerque location at the Coronado Center is the first in New Mexico. I scoped out the Kirkland’s website and they sell all kinds of decorative items including furniture, home accents such as lamps, mirrors, clocks, bedding, and table linens, plus gifts and seasonal goods – tons of Halloween goodies right now of course.

So why am I telling you about this? They’re doing some fun stuff at the Kirkland’s Grand Opening on Saturday and Sunday October 6 and 7, 2012, including free design consultations.

Local interior designer Deborah Smith will be on hand both days from 1 – 4 pm to give free personalized design advice. Take floor plans or photos of the rooms you’re decorating for the design consultation. I guess you could just do a jolly good job of describing the space (much gesturing of hands and disagreement with the spouse over exactly where the window is and how you’d define purple… believe me, I’ve been there) but a snapshot or other image will probably be most helpful. Smith is the owner of Cornerstone Interiors, and has been featured on HGTV.com’s Designers’ Portfolio.

Kirkland’s will also be giving away free sachets with purchase while supplies last, and two $50 gift cards. To enter for the free gift cards drawing, register at the store, no purchase required, and you don’t need to be present to win when they draw the winners on October 7 at 4 pm.

Albuquerque Kirkland’s Grand Opening takes place:

  • When: Saturday and Sunday October 6 and 7, 2012
  • Time: Saturday 10 am to 9 pm, Sunday 12 noon to 6 pm
  • Free Design Consultations with Deborah Smith: Both days from 1 to 4 pm
  • Where: Kirkland’s store, Coronado Center, 6600 Menaul Boulevard NE.
