ABQ Folk Festival: 2 for the Price of 1 Ticket Deal, or Get $5 Off, plus Free Camping

April 23, 2013 by
Filed under Art & Entertainment, Kids, Live Performances, Music

You won’t want to miss the 2013 Albuquerque Folk Festival on Saturday June 1, and you won’t want to miss these advance ticket discounts either…

Right now you can get 2 adult tickets for $15 in a limited time deal at this link via Living Social – the regular adult ticket price is $20 each if you wait to buy on the day, or $15 each in advance. I’m not sure how long this BOGO offer runs, or if there’s any cap on the ticket quantity.

Then gather up the family to enjoy fabulous folk music and dance at the Albuquerque Folk Festival on Saturday June 1, 2013.  The festival runs from all day from 10 am to 11 pm at the Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum, with performances on three stages, music and dance workshops, lots of great stuff for kids, and jam sessions for all.

Albuquerque Folk Festival tickets cost $20 for adults on the gate.  BUT if you miss the BOGO offer to get 2 adult tickets for $15 via Living Social (only available at the link, not from the festival itself), you can still save $5 on adult tickets simply by purchasing tickets in advance from the music shop locations listed at the festival’s website. That brings the adult ticket price down to $15 per person, which is still a pretty good deal for a full day of entertainment.

Plus you can camp free of charge on the Balloon Museum grounds, with admission to start camping from Friday May 31 at 3 pm, and you don’t have to decamp until Sunday at 2 pm. That means you can make a weekend of it, and join in the jamming on Friday and Saturday nights! Camping is available for tents and RVs, see the info at the website.

Other ticket prices for the festival:

  • $5 for kid’s tickets for ages 12-18, and the festival is totally free for children aged 11 and under.
  • $15 for seniors (65+), students aged 18-25, and military spouses.
  • $5 for active duty military
For all the reduced rate tickets, take your ID!  There’s no advance purchase discount for these, only for adult tickets.

This year’s folky fun includes:

  • A slate of first-rate folk music performances including Le Chat Lunatique, Squash Blossom Boys, Zoltan Orkestar and many more.
  • Storytelling, giant puppets and a children’s tent with dance, music, and games
  • Music workshops from ABCs of Banjo, to Build a Washtub Bass, to Celtic Singers
  • Jamming  and a band scramble (take your instrument – there’s a free instrument check room to leave it when you’re not playing)
  • Dance workshops from contra dance, to Scottish country dance, to belly dancing with a veil (I never go anywhere without my veil!)
  • Food vendors, and they usually have folk and musical items for sale too
  • A barn dance

Albuquerque Folk Festival offers far more activities than we can possibly mention, so check out their site to see all the options for this great family-friendly event.

Albuquerque Magic Show: Half Price Tickets

October 18, 2011 by

Comments Off on Albuquerque Magic Show: Half Price Tickets

Get 50% off VIP tickets for the Albuquerque Magic Show on November 6, 2011, priced at $15 instead of the regular $30. ***UPDATE on 10/21: This deal has now sold out. But you can still get regular price show tickets…

I love magic tricks, and the Albuquerque Magic Show from November 4 – 6 at the South Broadway Cultural Center should conjure up some family fun with Hollywood magic artists. Performers including Christopher Hart, the former “chief illusion supervisor” for David Copperfield’s tour. (I too consider myself an “illusion supervisor” when I try to make my pay checks stretch to meet my bills. Know that feeling?)

Hart performed for Johnny Carson, Michael Jackson, and Muhammad Ali, and he played Thing, the disembodied hand, in various Addams Family movies. Clearly a man of many talents. He’s joined by award-winning magician Danny Cole and comic-magician Matt Marcy, and finally we hit the 505 with Albuquerque magician Jordan Jonas. Also expect strolling magicians as the audience arrives.

Regular tickets to the Albuquerque Magic Show’s five performances cost $20 for adults, $10 for kids, and $30 for VIP seating, whatever your age. (Regular online ticket purchases require a small additional service charge of about $1 to $2 per ticket, depending on the ticket type.)

But there’s a *deal* for 50% off VIP tickets at $15 for the Sunday November 6 afternoon show at 12:30 pm. (Click the Families tab at left on the link page.) The VIP tickets include a show poster, a magic trick to take home, and of course, preferred seating. The half price ticket deal is running via Albuquerque Living Social under the Families tab. As there is obviously limited space at the show, I’d buy sooner rather than later if you’re interested. The discount tickets are limited to ten per person.

Bottom line: the half price VIP ticket deal is cheaper than regular adult tickets, and also a good deal on the upgrade for kid’s tickets, assuming that show time works for you.

Even if you don’t take advantage of the discount tickets, the regular ticket prices seem splurge-worthy to see such great magicians.

South Broadway Cultural Center is located at 1025 Broadway SE.

–Tania FYI I’ve given you my Living Social affiliate link for the discount tickets. If you feel like sending a little love this way to support the ABQ on the Cheap site (it doesn’t cost you any extra), please use the links.

A free wedding planning seminar, followed by a bridal show with tickets half price in advance.

If you’re getting hitched and looking for some wedding planning tips, a free Wedding Trends Seminar on Sunday October 23 might be just what you need to help you up the aisle. The 60-minute seminar promises to offer insider secrets to maximize your wedding budget by members of New Mexico Wedding Professionals, plus news on 2012 wedding trends, and tips on planning the perfect wedding. (In my humble opinion, a perfect wedding is one where the bride and groom love each other to bits, no matter how fancy the frock and the favors. Anything else is just icing on the wedding cake!)

They request registrations in advance for the free wedding planning seminar, which starts at 11:30 am at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Spa.

The seminar is followed by the Great Diamond Dash Bridal Show from 1 – 4 pm. Tickets for the bridal show are $10 on the door, but save by buying tickets online in advance for $5. The Great Diamond Dash Bridal Show includes a bridal fashion show, the chance to talk with Albuquerque wedding professionals, door prizes, and apparently five brides-to-be will dig into a wedding cake to find free diamond jewelry.

Wedding Trends Seminar: Insider Secrets to Maximize Your Budget takes place:

Mark your calendar for Friday and Saturday, June 18 and 19 because you won’t want to miss the Albuquerque Folk Festival. Gather up the family to enjoy two days of fabulous folk music, crafts, activities, and lots of great (cheap!) stuff for kids.

A festival pass for both days is already good value at $25, but here’s how you can save on tickets if you act fast.

  • Get a half price pass for two days – that’s a $25 ticket for just $12.50 – in an amazing Alibi Bucks offer from the weekly Alibi. Ticket quantities are limited – don’t hang around! A $1 shipping fee is added, but that’s per order, not per ticket, so that’s a small price to pay.
  • If you miss the 50% off deal, you can still save $5  simply by purchasing a two day pass in advance – see the locations to buy tickets at the link, so you pay $20 instead of $25.

You can also buy tickets for single day or evening admission for $15 or $20 depending on the session.

Kid’s tickets for ages 11-18 are $5, and the festival is totally free for children under 11!

Seniors (60+) get a $5 discount, and so do students aged 19-25. Bring your ID!

This year’s slate of first-rate folk music performances include:

  • Wagogo
  • Fishtank Ensemble
  • Bayou Seco
  • Los Primos
  • Blue Canyon Boys
  • Robin & Linda Williams

Folky fun includes:

  • A talent contest
  • Barn dance
  • Instrument petting zoo
  • Craft workshops, demonstrations, and a quilt show
  • Jamming  and a band scramble (bring your instrument – there’s a free instrument check room to leave it when you’re not playing)
  • Storytelling… and so much more

The festival offers far more activities than we can possibly mention, so check out their site to find out about the exact schedule, performers, workshops, dance, crafts, food and drink options, and stuff for kids.

This is a great, family-friendly event. And did we mention dirt cheap?

The ABQ Folk Festival is held at EXPO New Mexico State Fairgrounds, Albuquerque. Parking is $4.

Last Chance: Isotopes Ticket Promotions

Comments Off on Last Chance: Isotopes Ticket Promotions

With the baseball season into the 9th inning and your ‘Topes leading the PCL American South Division, we thought it was a good time to remind you of all the ways you can still enjoy a day at the ballpark on the cheap.

We’ve told you before about the Isotopes swag promotions, and now (thanks to reader Bethany!) we’re going to tip you off to ways to take yourself out to the ballgame on the cheap. Behold, the Isotopes ticket promotions for 2009:

Way #1: Bring two 32-oz Powerade labels to the box office and exchange them for one Reserved Level ticket! According to Bethany, Powerade often goes on sale for as little as 69¢ each, so you can get an $11 ticket for less than a buck-and-a-half. Suh-weet! To save even more, Bethany recommends half-filling your own water bottles, freezing them, and then filling them up and bringing them to the park. That way, you won’t have to buy the pricey ballpark beverages.

Way #2: Bring a Colosimo Sausage label and get buy-one-get-one-free tickets at the Reserved Level. That gives you $5.50 reserved seats (not including the price of the sausage). And you can still do Bethany’s water bottle trick.

Note: The above offers are good only at the Isotopes Park Box Office. Not valid for exhibition or playoff games.

Way #3: Order through Ticketmaster for the PNM BOGO promotion. Follow the instructions on the page carefully and use promo code PNM09 to obtain buy-one-get-one-free Reserved Level tickets (up to 6 tickets total) to the August 24th game — but ya gotta order soon. This offer is only valid one week prior to game day and is not available online the day of the game. If you received a paper coupon from PNM, you can present it at the Isotopes Box Office up to one week prior to the game and purchase your BOGO Isotopes tickets that way. If ordering through Ticketmaster, convenience fees apply. Still a great deal!

Way #4: BOGO Tuesdays with Kraft cheese wrappers.

So get on out there and root, root, root for the home team! With cheap tickets like these, there’s no reason to stay home.

The Albuquerque Isotopes Park Box Office is located at 1601 Cesar Chavez SE. More info: 222-4058.
