Segway Tour $35: Limited Time Deal

July 13, 2011 by

Comments Off on Segway Tour $35: Limited Time Deal

Save $30 on a Segway tour of Albuquerque if you buy before midnight Thursday July 14, 2011. Usual price is $65, but climb aboard your Segway and see the sights for $35 – you can redeem the certificate through January 15, 2012.

I bought the $35 Albuquerque Segway Tour last summer when they ran the same special offer on Groupon, and Mr Cheap and I took a Santa Fe friend and a visitor from New York as a treat. It was fab – we were all completely addicted to riding the Segway and gliding around the back streets, seeing everything at a stately (but fast enough to be fun) 12.5 mph.  They give you training and practice time first, so you can get use to it, although I have to say that Mr Cheap did veer worryingly toward the water a few times, down at Tingley Beach.  I’d post a photo of him riding along in his “totally non-dorky” helmet, but then he’d have to kill me. And I haven’t had dinner yet.

The Segway Groupon deal gives you the chance to try your hand (feet?) on a Segway for a two-hour Downtown sightseeing tour, including areas of Old Town and Tingley Beach.

It’s only available till midnight July 14, then book the tour before January 15, 2010. We went in fall, when it was sunny but cooler and very pretty. See minimum age and other safety restrictions at the Groupon deal page.

Groupon Getaways has also just launched, in partnership with Expedia, with discount hotel and resort deals. Current offers at 40 – 55% off include: Eldorado Hotel & Spa in Santa Fe;  the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada;  Loews Denver Hotel, and destinations in Phoenix, Dallas, San Antonio, Cancun, and farther afield.

These are all available to Monday July 18, 2011, but quantities are limited, and may sell out before the offers close.

New Mexico Ranch Getaway Deal: Time Limited

November 30, 2010 by
Filed under Half Off Deals, Lodging, Weekend & Day Trips

Comments Off on New Mexico Ranch Getaway Deal: Time Limited

This half price package for two nights on a ranch plus either massages for two people or a horseback ride for two costs $199 and is available through midnight Tuesday November 30. Then you can take the actual getaway stay within a year of purchase.

The forty-acre Two Ponyz Ranch is in Mountainair, about 75 minutes southeast of Albuquerque, and the New Mexico ranch package via Groupon includes 2 nights in a guest casita sleeping up to 4 people, with fully equipped kitchen, jetted bathtub, and fireplace, plus mod cons like flat screen TV, DVD player and DVDs available, free Wif-Fi etc.

The visit includes either massages for two people at the nearby Hair Enchantment Salon and Day Spa OR a 90 minute horseback ride for two (they call it a “ramble”, so sounds like you don’t have to be an expert rider). If you pick the riding option, you’ll also get a horse-saddling lesson. That should come in handy when you’re back on I-25 😉

The two night New Mexico Ranch Getaway Deal is $199 – the usual value is up to $400 depending what season you go. The offer is available till midnight today, Tuesday November 30, 2010. Then use the Groupon to reserve your trip within a year. Terms say you can buy up to 2 packages for yourself, plus more as gifts.

Mountainair, NM is located about 75 minutes southeast of Albuquerque. That’s JUST far enough to feel like you’ve gone somewhere, and JUST close enough to be low hassle and not spend half the trip behind the wheel so you’re exhausted by the time you get there. The ranch is near Cibola National Forest trails and all in all it sounds like a nice weekend getaway.

I like the sound of this and wonder if I can talk Mr Cheap into it with a little horse whispering?

Abiquiu Inn Half Price

September 10, 2010 by
Filed under Half Off Deals, Lodging, Weekend & Day Trips

Comments Off on Abiquiu Inn Half Price

A two bedroom suite for $99, that’s 50% off the regular rate, plus get a 25% discount in the cafe and gift shop. Nab this Abiquiu Inn deal by September 12 for a stay within a year. I’ve stayed in an Abiquiu Inn 2-bedroom casita with a friend, it’s gorgeous! The friend is from New York City and therefore very hard to impress. She thought it was gorgeous too.

The Abiquiu Inn half price offer is a Groupon side deal available until midnight Sunday September 12, 2010. For $99 you get a two bedroom suite with kiva fireplace, and 4 people can stay for the price. (Up to you how you organize sleeping arrangements, but I’d hazard a guess that 2 people per bedroom is the norm.)

The Abiquiu Inn Groupon can be used within a year of purchase, and I’d recommend waiting till next spring or summer as although it’s a lovely spot year-round, it’s especially pretty in fine weather, with leafy grounds and tables to sit out and soak up the views. Abiquiu Inn is a great base for trips out to Ghost Ranch about 13 miles away, or to take the Georgia O’Keeffe home and studio tour booked via the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. The Abiquiu Inn Cafe menu of southwestern dishes is very good, in my humble opinion, and also in the opinion of Mr Cheap who eats like a horse, but a picky horse. And you get 25% off at the cafe too with this deal, as well as 25% off at their superb and diverse gift shop.

You can buy up to three nights at this $99 rate, ($199.95 value per night). My two bedroom Pedernal Casita also had a full kitchen – I can’t guarantee that you’ll get the same with this deal, but it sounds like this is the level of two bedroom suite on offer. Suites in the deal definitely include a phone, cable TV, private bath, and some feature a veranda.

I’m taking Mr Cheap and a couple of friends for a weekend staycation, just can’t decide if I should purchase the discounted Abiquiu Inn Groupon for one night, two, or three! Remember this is the side deal, in the right hand side of the page I’ve linked you to, and you can buy through midnight Sunday September 12.

Abiquiu Inn is located about 115 miles (2 hour drive) north of Albuquerque.

Albuquerque the Magazine $7 Subscription: 53% Off

Comments Off on Albuquerque the Magazine $7 Subscription: 53% Off

Albuquerque Groupon Deal
Save over half the regular annual subscription in this limited time deal valid today only!

Get a one year subscription to Albuquerque the Magazine for $7, as long as you purchase by midnight tonight, Thursday September 9, 2010.  The regular subscription rate is $15 (recently went up from $12) for 11 issues a year, so this Groupon deal gives a saving of 53%. You can also use this deal to extend an existing subscription – see the deal discussion page for instructions.

We subscribe to Albuquerque the Magazine here at Cheap Central (and we’ll extend it using this offer!). It’s a great magazine, and packed with features on the local people to know and places to go. As the individual cover price is $3.95 an issue, if you buy 2 copies a year at the newstands anyway, it’s cheaper to get the discounted Groupon $7 subscription and receive all 11 copies for a year.

You have to purchase by midnight tonight, September 9, and then you can activate the subscription any time before March 10, 2011.

NM Rail Runner 3 x Day Passes for $10: Buy Today, Use Through 2010

Comments Off on NM Rail Runner 3 x Day Passes for $10: Buy Today, Use Through 2010

If you travel the New Mexico Rail Runner Express anyway, this deal is a no-brainer. If you’ve been wanting to ride the rails… here’s your chance to try it out and save big too!

This deal to get three NM Rail Runner all-zone day passes for $10 is only available for purchase today, Thursday August 5, then you can use the passes for travel until December 31, 2010.

The passes give unlimited travel in all zones and are usually priced $9 each – for a total value of $27.  I do not need to count on all my fingers and toes to work out out that the Groupon daily deal  for three New Mexico Rail Runner day passes at  $10 for the lot is therefore a pretty good bargain – over 60% off and saving $17 on your rail rumblings.

The main restriction to note is that you have to plan your travel at least 5 days ahead according to the deal terms. But if you’re a frequent rider on the NM Rail Runner or are planning trips up to Santa Fe this fall, the savings are sweet!

Rail Runner tickets also earn you discounts at Albuquerque and Santa Fe shops, hotels and restaurants  on the day the ticket is valid for travel.

And if you take the train on a Saturday on August 2010, you could also see free Shakespeare on the Train!

Train schedule and ticket information is at the New Mexico Rail Runner Express website
