Making guacamole for the Cinco de Mayo weekend? Here’s a one-day sale to save on avocados…

I could easily eat an avocado a day (they’re supposed to be healthy fat, right?) and a bowl of guacamole doesn’t last long in this house, between me and Mr Cheap battling it out with our tortilla chips. And did you know that if you put an avocado stone in water for a few days then plant it, it makes quite a pretty houseplant?

Anyhoo… as an avocado advocate, I was pleased to hear about this one-day Whole Foods Market sale on Wednesday May 1, 2013.

Avocados are on sale at 10 for $10, or $1 each, saving up to 67 cents on each avocado. It’s good timing for the Cinco de Mayo weekend if you choose avocados that are not too ripe already, although maybe they’re selling them off because they are ripe – so you’ll take your chances there. Oh dear, you’ll just have to eat them immediately 😉

I’d usually give you a sale web link but I got this info in an email from Whole Foods, so you’ll just have to take my word for it. The avocado sale is only on Wednesday May 1, 2013, while supplies last.

If you’re firing up the grill, I also notice in the Whole Foods sales flyer that Columbia River Whole Sockeye Salmon is on sale at $7.99 per pound (saving $4 a pound) from May 1 – 14.

You don’t need any coupons, just turn up at the participating Whole Food Market stores in Albuquerque:

  • Whole Foods Market Indian Plaza store at 2103 Carlisle Blvd. NE
  • Whole Foods Market Academy store at 5815 Wyoming Blvd NE
  • The sale is also on at the two Santa Fe Whole Foods stores if you’re heading thataway, at 753 Cerrillos Road, and 1090 S. Saint Francis Drive.

Beer Sale: October 31

Comments Off on Beer Sale: October 31

Just in time for Halloween…. Adults can have their own treats at 20% off.

Whole Foods Market has a one-day sale on beer and fruit and veggie trays on Wednesday October 31 only.  All beers are discounted by 20%, and small size fruit and vegetable trays are discounted by $3 to $9.99 each. I have to say that although fruit and veg trays are all very healthy and such, I was rather more excited about the beer sale. I’m going to stock up for Mr Cheap so we’ll save a little on his regular “guys nights”  when he and friends get together to play guitar. Oh and drink beer in between. Or maybe they get together to drink beer and they play guitar in between. Who knows?

The Whole Foods sale is ONLY on Wednesday October 31, 2012. I’d usually give you a sale web link but I got this info in an email from Whole Foods, so you’ll just have to take my word for it.

Oh, and a heads-up if you’re shopping for salmon this week. You might want to wait till Friday November 2, when “Responsibly Farmed” Atlantic salmon will be on sale for $8.99 per pound at Whole Foods Market stores.

For either sale, you don’t need any coupons, just turn up at the participating Whole Food Market stores in Albuquerque:

Watermelon Sale: August 29

Comments Off on Watermelon Sale: August 29

Watermelons usually priced $5.99 each are discounted to $3.99 in this one-day sale on August 29, 2012.

I’ve been downing watermelons like crazy to beat the heat and keep hydrated, and Mr Cheap is in a frenzy whipping up his version of a watermelon agua fresca. His recipe: Throw chunks of watermelon – without rind – into blender. Hit Blend. Don’t take your finger off the button until it’s well and truly blitzed. (Hold lid firmly on blender so it doesn’t splatter and turn your kitchen into Sandia Sunrise – not always successful in our case.)  Serve over ice. Sometimes I talk him into the added refinement of a sprig of mint.

So the sight of a one-day Whole Foods Market sale on watermelons made my mouth water. Pick up watermelons at $3.99 each on Wednesday August 29. This is a $2 discount from the usual price of $5.99, while supplies last. The sale is great timing for the Labor Day weekend if you choose ones that are not too ripe already.

The Whole Foods watermelon sale is ONLY on Wednesday August 29, 2012. I’d usually give you a sale web link but I got this info in an email from Whole Foods, so you’ll just have to take my word for it. You don’t need any coupons, just turn up at the participating Whole Food Market stores in Albuquerque:

I’m in the mood for a watermelon and feta cheese salad (nice mix of salty and sweet) and I’ve also been thinking about grilling some watermelon. I’ve never tried it but I’ve seen recipes where you just chuck watermelon slices on the barbecue for a couple of minutes, either raw or coated with a little honey glazing, and it sounds so good! I think some springs of thyme would add to the flavor too. Maybe I’ll try it this weekend. Do you have a fave watermelon recipe to share?

Got the grill out? Here’s a one-day sale for meat-lovers!

The Whole Foods Market Buck-A-Burger sale on Friday May 18, 2012, is the place to stock up on ready-to-cook beef burgers for $1 each. It could be worth bearing in mind if you’re planning a Memorial Day weekend cook-out. The burgers have no antibiotics, no added hormone, and no artificial flavors, preservatives, or colors.

The types and sizes of burger available may vary, and there is a quantity limit per customer too – we think it’s a limit of 20 beef patties per person for Albuquerque Whole Foods stores but that also may vary.  Best thing is to get down there and check ’em out if you’re interested, and the $1 per burger offer is good while supplies last, only on May 18.

If you’re looking for tips on summer grilling, the Whole Foods Guide to Grilling might come in handy, including techniques for grilling meat, seafood, vegetables, and fruit.

Making guacamole for the Cinco de Mayo weekend? Here’s a one-day sale to save on avocados, and salmon too…

Anyhoo… as an avocado advocate, I was pleased to hear about this one-day Whole Foods Market sale on Wednesday May 2, 2012.

Organic Hass Avocados are on sale at 4 for $5 (saving $1.24 on each avocado). It’s good timing for the Cinco de Mayo weekend if you choose avocados that are not too ripe already, although maybe they’re selling them off because they are ripe – so you’ll take your chances there. Oh dear, you’ll just have to eat them immediately 😉

Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon is also on sale at $9.99 per pound (saving $5 a pound). I’m not sure what you’ll do with that;  my favorite way to cook salmon is to smother it with pesto and bake it in foil, but I guess it’s grilling season!

Watermelons usually priced $5.99 each are discounted to two for $5 at  for in this one-day sale on August 31, 2011.

I’ve been downing watermelons like crazy to keep cool and hydrated, and Mr Cheap is a dab hand at whipping up his version of a watermelon agua fresca. (His recipe: Throw chunks of watermelon – without rind – into blender. Hit Blend. Don’t take your finger off the button till it’s well and truly blitzed. Serve over ice. Sometimes I talk him into the added refinement of a sprig of mint.)

So the sight of a one-day Whole Foods Market sale on watermelons made my mouth water. Pick up
two watermelons for $5 on Wednesday August 31 .  As I am a math whizz, I know that works out to $2.50 each, compared to the regular price of $5.99, saving $3.49 a melon, while supplies last. These are Rocky Ford watermelons, grown in Colorado.  It’s good timing for the Labor Day weekend if you choose ones that are not too ripe already.

Also on sale at Whole Foods on Wednesday are Applegate Wheat-Free Corn Dogs at $3.99 instead of the usual $6.99.

The sale is ONLY on Wednesday August 31, 2011, while supplies last.

Comments Off on $1 Cantaloupes on May 11

Cantaloupes usually priced $3.99 each are discounted to 5 for $5 at  for in this one-day sale on May 11, 2011.

Yes I know it’s a bit sad to be so excited about $2.99 off fruit. It’s not even one of the two major food groups: Chocolate and Chile. But it speaks to the fact that I’m so juicy fruit-starved over this last winter, that the sight of a one-day Whole Foods Market sale on cantaloupes made my mouth water.

If you’re feeling fruity too, pick up cantaloupes on Wednesday May 11  5 for $5. As I am a math whizz, I know that works out to $1 each, compared to the regular price of $3.99.  Save $2.99 and get your teeth into some vits.

Other Whole Foods sale items on Wednesday May 11 are:

  • Save $5 on Norwegian salmon fillet at $11.99 a pound instead of the usual $16.99.
  • $1.50 off Crave Brothers Mozzarella balls  – the 8 oz pack is $2.99 instead of the usual $4.49.

Sigg Bottles 50% Off Sale: April 20

Comments Off on Sigg Bottles 50% Off Sale: April 20

The Whole Food Market‘s sale on Sigg water bottles is well timed for Earth Week.  I’m not sure quite how the liquid laundry detergent and mozzarella logs fit in to that picture, but they’re on sale too.

On Wednesday April 20, 2011, Sigg water bottles are 50% off at Whole Foods Market. They’re the durable and reusable bottles with all the fancy designs so you can tell which one is yours. Could be a good time to buy for summer picnics, hikes, and just keeping and looking cool generally on the streets. If you can’t get to Whole Foods on Wednesday, I also noticed that Sigg Bottles are currently 20% off at Pharmaca.

Other Whole Foods sale items on Wednesday are:

  • $5 off 365 Everyday Value liquid laundry soap – that’s $9.99 each instead of the regular $14.99. I guess that fits with the Sigg bottles in an Earth Week kind of way as the detergent doesn’t contain phosphates or chlorine, and it’s not tested on animals.
  • $4 off Crave Brothers Mozzarella logs – the 16 oz logs are $4.99 instead of the usual $8.99. There’s NO way I can make that fit an Earth Week theme… but it’s a nice treat for after you’ve done your laundry! Caprese salad – yum!

The sale is ONLY on Wednesday April 20, while supplies last.

I’d usually give you a sale web link but I got this info in an email from Whole Foods, so you’ll just have to take my word for it. You don’t need any coupons, just turn up at the participating Whole Food Market stores in Albuquerque:

Chocolate and Jumbo Shrimp Sale: February 9

Comments Off on Chocolate and Jumbo Shrimp Sale: February 9

A one-day food of love sale on Wednesday February 9, 2011.

The Whole Food Market‘s sale on Chocolove chocolate bars and jumbo shrimp should set you up for Valentine’s Day.

Chocolove chocolate bars are usually $2.29 each, but in the sale they’ll be 10 for $10 – a dollar a pop of deliciousness. Chocolove is one of my fave choc brands, both for the scrummy flavors including chilies and cherry and orange peel in dark chocolate, AND for the love poem inside.

Domestic white jumbo shrimp, wild caught, will be down to $9.99 per pound from the usual $15.99.  If you’re looking for something new to do with the shrimp, this Baked Stuffed Shrimp recipe looks tasty. Lots of garlic in it, but if you both eat it, that’s ok!

The sale is ONLY on Wednesday February 9, while supplies last.

I’d usually give you a sale web link but I got this info in an email from Whole Foods – and if I choose the web view of the email, Whole Foods has started plastering my personal email address all over it and I get enough spam as it is. Chocolate I love. Spam, not so much 😉

So you’ll just have to take my word for it. You don’t need any coupons, just turn up at the participating Whole Food Market stores in Albuquerque:
