On IHOP’s National Pancake Day, IHOP is giving dine-in customers a free short stack of pancakes… no doubt they’ll go like hotcakes!   People from around the country will celebrate a “Decade of Giving” with the tenth annual National Pancake Day at IHOP.

So hop on over to your local IHOP on Tuesday March 3, 2015, between 7 am and 10 pm, to claim a short stack of free IHOP pancakes – that’s three buttermilk pancakes. In exchange, consider making a donation to Children’s Miracle Network to support children’s hospitals, or other local charities.

IHOP’s National Pancake Day celebration has raised almost $16 million for charity since it started in 2006.  Their goal this year is to raise $3.5 million for charity.  Wow!

They’ve given away more than 10 million pancakes in previous years, so make sure three of those cakes have your name written on them in 2015!

The IHOP National Pancake Day offer is limited to one free short stack per person, at participating restaurants for dine-in only while supplies last and is not valid with any other offer, special coupon or discount.

Animal Humane New MexicoThere’s no delicate way to say this, but… is your pooch peeing on the carpet suddenly? Is your cat going crazy on the furniture or your dog barking so much it drives you and your neighbors nuts?  Or does your pet keep breaking out through the fence and you’re worried for his or her safety?

These are often solvable problems if you know what to do. But if you don’t know what to do and you’d like to understand your pet better, you can get free help from Animal Humane New Mexico.

Use their free helpline (505-938-7900) to speak to a trained coach who can help you solve pet behavior problems.  If you don’t reach someone immediately, leave a message and someone will get back to you soon.  You can also email your questions to them at  behaviorhelpline@animalhumanenm.org   This is a completely free service and it’s wonderful that they offer it. It might even prevent some pets from having to go to shelters when their human is driven to the end of their tether – so pass the word along!

The Animal Humane Behavior free helpline helps with pet issues including separation anxiety, destructive behaviors, escaping, barking, chasing, digging, fearful behavior, housetraining,  introducing a new pet to the household where there are already pets, and puppy and kitten development.

I only wish they could provide free trained coaches to deal with Mr Cheap’s behavior problems, but he’d probably say the same about me :-)

Comments Off on Free Movies January 22-25: The Thin Man Series

ABC Library, in partnership with the KiMo Theatre, presents six film adaptations of the The Thin Man book by author Dashiell Hammett.  Tickets are not required for these free movies.  Screen legends William Powell and Myrna Loy play the characters of Nick and Nora Charles in this comedy-mystery series that was very popular in the late 1930’s and 1940’s.  I enjoy watching the fun chemistry between these two mega stars as they solve mysteries.  The Thin Man is a fitting subject for this time of year when everyone is going on a diet. After pigging out over the holidays I’m certainly cutting back on the cookies in my aim to become The Thinner Woman!

The Thin Man on Thursday January 22, 2015  from 7 pm at the KiMo Theatre.

After the Thin Man on Friday January 23, 2015 from 8 pm at the KiMo Theatre.

Another Thin Man on Saturday January 24, 2015 from 2 pm at the KiMo Theatre

Shadow of the Thin Man on Saturday January 24, 2015 from 7 pm at the KiMo Theatre

The Thin Man Goes Home on Sunday January 25, 2015 from 2 pm at the KiMo Theatre

Song of the Thin Man on Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 5 pm at the KiMo Theatre

The KiMo Theatre is located at 423 Central Avenue NW (corner of 5th and Central) and there is a large parking facility right behind the Theatre at 5th and Copper.

Comments Off on Kids Bowl Free Summer 2014: Still Time to Play!

I mentioned the Kids Bowl Free program at the beginning of summer, but if you haven’t taken advantage of the deal yet there is still time for kids to play two free games every day. Plus you can purchase an optional family pass for $24.95 for up to four adults to play two games each a day.

Kids Bowl Free is a great summer program with bowling centers around the country, giving kids the chance to play two free games every day throughout the promotion. You need to sign up to the Kids Bowl Free 2014 promotion to get free bowling coupons every week.

Fewer Albuquerque area bowling centers are taking part this year, but kids can still get free games at Silva Lanes and at Tenpins & More in Rio Rancho. If you were registered with the program last year, you need to re-register for 2014.

Start by registering your child or children for one or more of these bowling center programs. If you sign up for more than one, you’ll need to use a different email address for each account:

Silva  Lanes Kids Bowl Free runs to September 20, 2014, for kids aged 18 and under. Their free games are on Monday and Thursday from 10 am to 10 pm; on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 am to 5 pm; on Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm, and on Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm.

Tenpins & More Rio Rancho Kids Bowl Free program runs through August 31, 2014, for kids aged 15 and under. Their free games are valid on Monday to Wednesday and on Friday: 11 am to 2 pm; and on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 2 pm. This year, Tenpins & More has added a pair of night sessions.  Now kids can bowl their free games on Wednesday and Thursday nights between 9 pm to 11 pm.

  • You can register up to six children on each registration form – if you have a bigger brood, you need to create an additional account with a different email address for the other children.
  • Then watch your email to confirm your subscription and then you’ll get an email with info to log in to your account and print out the coupons for 2 free games per day.
  • If the young bowler’s family members also want to play, then once you’ve registered a child for the free bowling, you have the option to buy a family bowling pass for $24.95, which allows up to 4 adults to each play 2 free games a day too.
  • If you don’t have your own bowling shoes, you still have to pay regular shoe rental rates
  • Check the FAQ for any other details on how Kids Bowl Free works.

If you don’t know where these Albuquerque bowling centers are located, you’ll find them here: Silva Lanes is at 3010 Eubank Boulevard NE. Tenpins & More is at 1416 Deborah Rd SE, Rio Rancho.

Freebies for Kids with Dion’s Club Read

July 10, 2014 by

Comments Off on Freebies for Kids with Dion’s Club Read

Dion’s Club Read is a great way to encourage kids to read, because they get FREE gifts in return… and maybe a chance to be Orbit’s guest at Isotopes Park!

The Dion’s Club Read program is for for preschool to 5th grade kids, running till July 25, 2014. The program is a partnership between Dion’s Pizza and the Albuquerque Isotopes, so it has a baseball theme – what’s not to love?

Here’s how it works: Pick up a scorecard brochure at a Dion’s location, or download it from the Dion’s Club Read website. After a child reads any six books of their choice (or it’s fine for parents and teachers to read books to youngsters who are still learning to read) they fill in the scorecard with the name of the books and they’ve hit a home run! The completed scorecard earns the student free gifts and a new scorecard. The child receives a different free gift for each scorecard they fill:

  • The prize for the First Home Run (the first scorecard of six books read) is a free backpack and an official Club Read T-shirt.
  • For the Second Home Run (the second scorecard of six books read) the child gets a ticket voucher to watch an Isotopes game, a coupon for a free small drink at Isotopes Park, and a new book.  They also get entered into a prize drawing.

The prize drawing is to win tickets to be Orbit’s guest at the Isotopes game with four Club Level seat tickets, plus a Dion’s Pizza, a Dion’s $20 gift card, and an autographed baseball. AND the child can make a ceremonial first pitch! How cool is that? If this doesn’t encourage kids to read, then I don’t know what will!

The Dion’s Club Read program is for preschool children through 5th grade, and it runs until Friday July 25, 2014.

All the Dion’s locations and details on how the offer works are in the brochure on the Dion’s Club Read webpage.

Comments Off on Antiques Roadshow in Albuquerque: Free Tickets

The Antiques Roadshow TV program visits Albuquerque this summer, and you can get free tickets to see the old-time fun. Maybe even discover that the gorgeous / hideous / just very strange antique thingamabob you inherited is actually worth a fortune!

The Antiques Roadshow will be in Albuquerque on Saturday July 19, 2014. The program is PBS’s highest-rated ongoing primetime series. As part of the summer production tour, New Mexico PBS will host Antiques Roadshow for the all-day appraisal event.

Now through Monday April 7 you can apply online for a pair of Albuquerque Antiques Roadshow free ticketsThe form asks if you prefer a morning, midday, or afternoon admission time although they say there are no guarantees.

Applicants will be selected at random to receive two tickets to visit the Antiques Roadshow set and be considered for broadcast.  I understand that 6,000 ticketed guests will receive free valuations of their antiques and collectibles from specialists from the country’s leading auction houses and independent dealers. Each guest is invited to take two items for appraisal.

Also, if you have some antique furniture that is just waiting to become famous on TV, the program is now accepting antique furniture applications. A few pieces will be selected for appraisal and display on the set.  Those chosen items will be transported from your home to the Antiques Roadshow set for free.  Send photos of your furniture to audition at this link.   Note that they only want antique furniture for this, not other kinds of antiques. (Your collection of antique chile memorabilia won’t cut it. You’ll just have to apply for free tickets, hope you get in, and take them along yourself.)

This is the third time Antiques Roadshow will have filmed in New Mexico and they expect guests to take more than 10,000 items in total to be appraised. The Albuquerque taping will appear in three episodes of Antiques Roadshow in the 2015 season.

While admission to Antiques Roadshow will be free, you do need to have tickets and apply in advance at this Albuquerque Antiques Roadshow link. You can also call toll-free 1-888-762-3749. Whatever you do, do it on or by  Monday, April 7, 2014 to get your name in the random drawing.

Hey, if you find out you have a masterpiece on your hands, please leave a comment here to tell us before you set off for your Caribbean island…
