Comments Off on Free Trees and Free Clinic for Kids: Make a Birdhouse
Free trees at Lowe’s on Earth Day and free Lowe’s Build and Grow Clinic for kids to make a birdhouse.
Lowe’s is giving away one million free trees on Earth Day, Saturday April 23, 2011. According to a press release, the Lowe’s free tree giveaway is happening at stores nationwide, although we don’t know how many of the tree saplings will be up for grabs at each of the Albuquerque stores. I’d suggest you get there at opening time though. Or the early-birds will nab all the free trees and leaf you empty-handed… 😉
The tree saplings are selected to suit local climate and terrain, and each one has a bar code so recipients can register their tree at Lowe’s free trees for Earth Day web page and see where other people are planting their trees across America. You can also scan a 2D barcode with a cell phone for info about the planting and care of the tree. Neat, huh?
The giveaway is a partnership between Lowe’s and American Forests – both sponsors can take a bough! (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)
The free Lowe’s Build and Grow Clinic on April 23 at 10 am is for kids to build a window birdhouse – it sticks to the window so children can see the nest. The Build and Grow clinic is taking place at all Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and Los Lunas stores, recommended for Grades One through Five, and the kit is NOT suitable for children under 3 years.
Spaces are limited so register online for the free Lowe’s Build and Grow Clinic .
Thanks to Carolyn at Wichita on the Cheap for the free trees tip!
Comments Off on $2 Off Admission Plus Free Trees: Albuquerque Home and Garden Show
It’s spring, and a young man’s fancy turns lightly to thoughts of home improvement. Hence, the spate of home and garden shows at this time of year. And, frankly, we love them all!
The Albuquerque Home and Garden Show offers over 275 exhibitors showing off the best services and products for living la vida Nueva Méxicana, plus they’ll have a bunch of seminars specific to southwest gardening. We’re especially interested in the one on vegetable gardening in the desert (Saturday at 3:00pm). Maybe it will help us get our victory garden on. Other seminars include:
- Olla Irrigation
- Landscape Ideas for Small Spaces
- Maximize the Potential of Your Outdoor Living Space – Large or Small
Plus, Tree New Mexico is giving away 500 trees! Be one of the first 500 people to stop by their booth in Hall C, and you can walk away with your choice of an Arizona sycamore, laceback elm, or Austrian pine. Now that’s sure to enhance your landscape!
Of course, we don’t plan to pay full price to get in to this extravaganza — and neither should you. That’s why we went out and found this $2 off admission coupon at the AHGS website. You can use the coupon for $2 off each of 2 adult admissions, taking your cost to $5 per adult (age 13 and over). The coupon is not valid on the senior price of $5. Kids under age 12 are free.
The Albuquerque Home and Garden Show will be held Saturday, April 25, from 10:00am – 7:00pm, and Sunday, April 26, from 10:00am – 5:00pm at the Manuel Lujan Building at EXPO New Mexico. Enter from the San Pedro side, and expect to pay $4 for parking.
Maybe we’ll see you there!
