The Albuquerque Concert Band has been entertaining Albuquerque for more than 40 years, and I adore this band and the music they play! If you’re missing their series of summer concerts my lovelies, you’ll be glad to hear they’ve got a free concert coming right up.

The next Albuquerque Concert Band free concert is this Sunday March 1 at 3 pm.  The band usually plays a variety of music from big band classics to Scottish dances and rousing symphonic marches, and this concert will feature Nancy Joy as soloist. Ms. Joy is the Principal Horn of the Las Cruces Symphony at NMSU.

The free concert will be held in the George Nason Performing Arts Center at Eldorado High School, 11300 Montgomery Boulevard NE, with the entrance on Juan Tabo just south of Montgomery.

Here are some free audio samples from the Albuquerque Concert Band recordings to get you in the mood.

Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra gives two identical free concerts before Christmas, so if you can’t make one evening, go to the other!

The two free Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra concerts with guest conductor Wojciech Milewski are on December 19 and 21, 2015.  No tickets are required and admittance is on a first come, first served basis.  Even though these concerts are free, donations are gratefully accepted. www.nmapo.org or (505)433-7445.

Both classical concerts feature the same program: “In Autumn” by Grieg, Symphony No.1 (mvts 1 & 2) by Tchaikovsky, “A Winter’s Tale” by Lars-Erik Larsson,  Karelia Suite and Spring Song, both by Sibelius.

The free Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra concerts take place:

  • Friday December 19, 2014 at 7:30 pm at St. Therese Church, 3424 Fourth St NW Albuquerque.
  • Sunday December 21, 2014 at 3:00 pm at the Hiland Theater/NDI, 4800 Central Ave SE, Albuquerque.

I went to one of the Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra concerts and it was a real knockout. It was beautiful to hear this incredible music in a relatively intimate setting – so close that you can feel just about every vibration in your body.  What a gift it is to be able to experience this.

Thank you very much to the Albuquerque Philharmonic for giving us the chance to hear such wonderful classical music by such accomplished musicians – not even on the cheap, but totally free!

Albuquerque Concert Band Free Holiday Concert

Albuquerque Concert Band plays holiday musicThe Albuquerque Concert Band has been entertaining Albuquerque for more than 40 years, and they’re staying true to form with a free concert of holiday music.

The  Albuquerque Concert Band free holiday concert is this Sunday December 7, at 3 pm, at the KiMo Theatre. I love holiday music and I had a wonderful time at this free concert the last couple of  times I went with friends.

It’s all very rousing and jovial, with plenty of family favorites to tap your toes to. The Albuquerque Concert Band and conductor even wears different festive headgear to accompany each song. The whole event is terrific entertainment for young and old.

Short of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer crash-landing on my head, I’ll be there first in line!
Doors open at 2:30 pm and it’s wise to arrive promptly as it’s a pretty full house in my experience.

Here are some free audio samples from Albuquerque Concert Band recordings to get you in the mood.

The KiMo Theatre is located at 423 Central Avenue NW.

There’s nothing like a street festival to make the most of summer – and is there anywhere better for a street festival than old Route 66 herself? We think not. Join the Albuquerque Route 66 Summerfest party on Saturday July 19, 2014, for free live entertainment, car cruise, and more…

Route 66 Summerfest in Nob Hill kicks off at 2 pm through 10:30 pm on July 19, and the free festivities include a car show, live music and dancing, kids’ activities, an arts and artisans’ market, and sidewalk sales.  Some highlights:

  • New Mexico Route 66 Association’s Car Show all afternoon on Central between Carlisle and Montclaire, with the annual Neon Cruise starting at 8:30 pm.
  • The KidZone offers performances by and for children and teens, and a climbing wall, face painting and inflatables, on Central Avenue between Wellesley and Tulane.
  • Summerfest music (in partnership with the New Mexico Jazz Festival) starts at 2:45 pm on the main stage (Central & Girard) and at 2:30 pm on the East Stage (Central & Washington). A great line-up of performers including Main Stage headline acts Raul Midon (7:40 pm) and Arrested Development (9:00 pm). The headline act on the East Stage is Son Como Son at 8:20 pm.
  • Route 66 Cork & Tap has its own stage and beer garden, with local breweries on site, a food truck rumble, and music including Floozy, the Cali Shaw Band and headliner Mil-Tones Brass Band, all at Central and Montclaire.
  • Mother Road Art and Artisan’s Market showing local arts and crafts between Dartmouth and Bryn Mawr.
  • Free Group Wedding at 6 pm by A Celebration of Love Wedding Chapel, with the county clerk present to issue marriage certificates, at the Main Stage (Central and Girard).

Check out the full schedule of Route 66 Summerfest events and times. They also have a very handy map so you can see what’s where.
