Pharmaca Free Webinar and Coupon

Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy runs a series of free webinars (I’ve just discovered) on various health topics.

The next one, on Wednesday July 27 at 12 noon Mountain Time is on the subject: Boost Your Brain: How to maintain good memory and cognitive function as you age.

Plus, everyone who attends the webinar is given a $10 Pharmaca coupon to spend in the store or online at the Pharmaca website.

I have an excellent memory, myself, especially when it comes to remembering that it’s Mr Cheap’s turn to do the dishes. But cognitive function in general is another question, so the free webinar definitely caught my eye.

Sorry, what free webinar was I talking about? (Shuffles notes.) Oh yes, I remember. The free webinar on how to maintain a good memory. 

Register in advance for the Boost your Brain webinar on July 27, 2011, at 12 noon Mountain Time. It’s led by Dr. Bruce Price, associate professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, and you can also send a brain health question to him.  The webinar is an hour long, so I’d suggest you put the phone on speakerphone and sit back.

Previous Pharmaca Webinars are archived online so you can still hear them.  They include talks on Menopause Solutions and Better Sleep for good health. 

Observant Cheapos will notice that the date shown on the Pharmaca webinar page for the Boost your Brain webinar is July 20. HOWEVER, the email we received this week from Pharmaca about the event definitely dates it as July 27, and the registration form is also for July 27. So I’m pretty confident it’s tomorrow, but it’s kinda funny that Pharmaca  forgot to update the website with the correct date of a talk on good memory…

Free tax help for those who are sighing over their 2010 tax return (and let’s face it, none of us are dancing on the table at the prospect).  Hope something here makes your IRS return a little less taxing this year:

The IRS office at 5338 Montgomery Boulevard NE is open this Saturday morning to help taxpayers who can’t get to the office during the week. From 9 am to 2 pm IRS staff will be available to answer questions on your tax account and tax return preparation.

Understanding Taxes Free Webinar
When: Friday April 1, 2011 
Time: 11 am to 12 noon Albuquerque time 

This is one in a series of free online seminars – aka webinars – by the National Association of Personal Financial Planners.  You can attend the live online 40-minute presentation, followed by 20 minutes for questions and answers, or listen to an audio file after the program.  They promise to cover “What you don’t understand about taxes.” To me that’s just about EVERYTHING! The session explores personal tax issues and how they affect financial planning.  Enroll online for the Understanding Taxes  free webinar.

Free TurboTax edition online if you’re filing 1040EZ forms and simpler federal tax returns.  The program asks plain language questions to help complete the forms, calculate the return, and submit to the feds by free Efile or hard copy.  The program is suitable for forms including 1040EZ, 1040A, and 1040, but doesn’t cover tax schedules C, D, E, and F. TurboTax Free edition is only for federal tax returns, not state returns.

Beekeeping and Tree Pruning Seminars

Free seminars and events on trees and bees! It’s a shame I can’t find any on peas, cheese, or skis…

A free fruit tree pruning workshop at the Open Space Visitor Center this Thursday March 10, at 9:30 am is led by Joran Viers, certified arborist and director of the Bernalillo County Extension Office. He’ll demonstrate best pruning techniques on the Visitor Center apple trees, to show you how to maintain a strong tree framework and keep the tree looking good, as well as encouraging fruit production and long life for the tree.  Bring your own pruning tools to go hands-on and learn for yourself. The workshop is free, but register in advance at Open Space Visitor Center – call (505) 897-8831

I spotted these free beekeeping events at Albuquerque Beekeepers. Here’s the buzz:

Free Webinar for 2nd Year Beekeepers on Wednesday March 9, 2011, at 5 – 6 pm Mountain Time.  An internet seminar on how to manage year two with your bees, to keep them healthy, build them up and produce yummy honey. (Mmm!) It’s a national class with a panel of beekeepers including Kim Flottum, the editor of Bee Culture Magazine. Although it’s free, space is limited. Register in advance at the link.

Albuquerque Beekeepers Meeting on Thursday March 24, 2011 from 6 – 8 pm. Newbie beekeepers are welcome and you don’t need to be a member to turn up to this free event where speaker Megan Mahoney discusses techniques for catching and managing swarms. There will also be general beekeeping Q&A. The venue is NMSU Extension office at 1510 Menaul NW.

There’s also a Free Beekeeping Seminar out in Edgewood on Saturday March 26, 2011, from 10 am - 1 pm, followed by a potluck. Edgewood is about a 35 minute drive east of Albuquerque via I-40, although it’s closer for our East Mountain readers of course!

Free Personal Finance Online Seminars 2011

The National Association of Personal Financial Planners aims to help people become more savvy about personal financial issues, like basic money management, investments, retirement planning, taxes, and much more. That’s why they offer a series of FREE online seminars – aka webinars.

I must tell Mr Cheap about these because his idea of financial planning is to pop the nickels he finds down the back of the sofa into a jar on our telephone table.

The 2011 Consumer Webinar Series is led by NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisors, and each month a new session will be conducted live online.  You can attend the live session and ask questions, or listen to an audio file after the program. 

Each webinar is a 40-minute presentation, followed by 20 minutes for questions and answers. The individual sessions take place from 11 am – 12 noon Albuquerque time:

Free Finance Education Online Seminar Series

The National Association of Personal Financial Planners wants you to become more savvy about personal financial issues, like basic money management, investments, kids and money, and much more. That’s why they’re launching a series of FREE online seminars (webinars) over the next year.

The Consumer Webinar Series is a year-long initiative beginning August 7 (2009) that will provide an opportunity for anyone in the country to learn about a wide range of financial issues from NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisors.  Each month a new session will be conducted live online. Consumers can attend the live session after registering for free, or listen to an audio file after the program.  The instructors NAPFA has recruited for the various sessions are among the industry’s leaders in truly comprehensive financial planning and includes members of NAPFA’s National Board of Directors, past NAPFA national chairs, educators, and authors.

The series will include 12, one-hour sessions delivered via the internet.  The individual sessions will be conducted from 11:00am – 12:00 noon Albuquerque time and will include:

  • September 4: Kids & Money
  • October 2:  What is Financial Planning?
  • November 6:  Protecting What You Have
  • December 4:  Investments: The Basics
