Dion’s Club Read is a great way to encourage kids to read, because they get FREE gifts in return… and maybe a chance to be Orbit’s guest at Isotopes Park!

The Dion’s Club Read program is for for preschool to 5th grade kids, running till July 25, 2014. The program is a partnership between Dion’s Pizza and the Albuquerque Isotopes, so it has a baseball theme – what’s not to love?

Here’s how it works: Pick up a scorecard brochure at a Dion’s location, or download it from the Dion’s Club Read website. After a child reads any six books of their choice (or it’s fine for parents and teachers to read books to youngsters who are still learning to read) they fill in the scorecard with the name of the books and they’ve hit a home run! The completed scorecard earns the student free gifts and a new scorecard. The child receives a different free gift for each scorecard they fill:

  • The prize for the First Home Run (the first scorecard of six books read) is a free backpack and an official Club Read T-shirt.
  • For the Second Home Run (the second scorecard of six books read) the child gets a ticket voucher to watch an Isotopes game, a coupon for a free small drink at Isotopes Park, and a new book.  They also get entered into a prize drawing.

The prize drawing is to win tickets to be Orbit’s guest at the Isotopes game with four Club Level seat tickets, plus a Dion’s Pizza, a Dion’s $20 gift card, and an autographed baseball. AND the child can make a ceremonial first pitch! How cool is that? If this doesn’t encourage kids to read, then I don’t know what will!

The Dion’s Club Read program is for preschool children through 5th grade, and it runs until Friday July 25, 2014.

All the Dion’s locations and details on how the offer works are in the brochure on the Dion’s Club Read webpage.

Sierra Club membership usually starts at $25 per person, but if you join online right now, they’re giving discounted membership at the special offer price of $15, plus you get a free Sierra Club  backpack. The rugged backpack looks perfect for expeditions into the wilderness, and to contain all your sandwiches and chips.  (Because after all, the whole point of a hike is the PICNIC!)

The Discounted Sierra Club Membership also includes a year’s subscription to Sierra magazine, plus membership in your local Chapter (the Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter, or there are others in New Mexico if you’re an out-of-town reader). Members also get discounts with partner businesses including Pharmaca, Columbia sportswear, and Whirlpool Outlet appliances, and discounts on Sierra Club goods including books and calendars. I’m not sure how long the Sierra Club special offer membership deal is available, so join fast if you’re interested.

The Sierra Club works to protect America’s wild and untamed places, and we have plenty of those around here. My fridge would probably qualify right now with all the Christmas leftovers stacked in it.

Comments Off on Free Restaurant Certificates to Give as Gifts

I mentioned this freebie before, but in case you missed it, here’s a reminder of how to Feed it Forward and give friends and family free $10 restaurant certificates until January 1, 2013.

Free restaurant certificates to give as gifts? What a great idea to spread a little seasonal cheer! Through January 1,  you can send free $10 Restaurant.com certificates to your friends. This is part of their Feed It Forward promotion – scroll down at the link to the Feed It Forward info.

You can give one gift to each person during the Restaurant.com Feed it Forward promotion, and they send the certificate via email. Friends and family choose from thousands of participating restaurants nationally to redeem their certificate. Note that there is usually a minimum spend in restaurants, so your recipient will have to top up a little, but they’ll still get $10 off their check.

You can pretty much send as many free $10 restaurant.com certificates you like as there’s a maximum of 100 per sender per day. Even our most popular reader would surely struggle to find THAT many friends to send to.  The promo ends on January 1, or when the money runs out. They have a maximum of $40 million worth of free restaurant certificates to give away – that’s a lotta free food, people!

If you want to actually buy Restaurant.com already discounted dining certificates for yourself or others, prices are typically $4 for a $10 certificate, $10 for a $25 certificate, or $20 for a $50 certificate, and other denominations are available. But they often offer a promo code for a further discount if you add the code at checkout. If there’s a current promo code available you can see it in this image below that automatically updates:

Restaurant.com Weekly Promo Offer 468 x 60

Albuquerque restaurants in the program include:
Red Brick Pizza, Cheese and Coffee Cafe Downtown, True Sushi, Forque Kitchen and Bar, Bandido Hideout, Coolwater Fusion Restaurant, Sophia’s Place, Ezra’s Place, Saffron Tiger, Olympia Cafe, and other Restaurant.com venues High Noon, Brasserie La Provence, Amici, Yasmine’s Cafe, and many more.

Check individual restaurants for deal terms (eg minimum spend) to make sure they’re a good deal for you before tucking your napkin under your chin

Comments Off on Free $10 Gift Card with 3 Discounted Restaurant Certificates

You can get a free $10 eGift card when you buy any three restaurant certificates in a deal currently running at Restaurant.com. The certificates for purchase are already discounted, for example a $25 value certificate typically costs $10, or a $50 certificate is $20.

You don’t need a promo code for the buy-three-get-one-free deal, and the freebie $10 gift card won’t appear in your shopping cart, but (according to the promotion’s fine print) it will be emailed to customers the day after an order is processed.

The eGift Card can be redeemed for a certificate to a specific restaurant – around 18,000 restaurants participate throughout the country.

The Restaurant.com Free $10 eGift card promotion includes certificates for Albuquerque restaurants such as Vernon’s Hidden Valley Steakhouse, La Provence Brasserie, Chama River Brewing Company, True Sushi, Red Brick Pizza, Coolwater Fusion, Burger Rush, Crazy Fish, Ezra’s Place, Sophia’s Place, Cosmo Tapas, and many more.

The dining certificates never expire, and the promotion requires the purchase of any three restaurant certificates in order to get the Restaurant.com Free $10 eGift card. Certificates are available for various amounts and different discounts, including $25 value for $10 and $50 value for $20.

Just be careful to check the certificate terms for each specific restaurant, including minimum spend, to make sure they’re a good deal for you.

The offer is available until August 7, 2012.

Restaurant Gift Cards 70% Off + Buy 5 Get 1 Free

November 7, 2011 by

Comments Off on Restaurant Gift Cards 70% Off + Buy 5 Get 1 Free

Restaurant gift cards are a popular choice for the holidays and gift card vendors are starting to promote with discounts – which means savings for us! We’ll soon start our ABQ on the Cheap round-up list of holiday gift card deals at various restaurants and retailers, but here’s one to kick us off…

Restaurant.com gift cards are 70% off when you use the promo code: GIFT
That means a $25 gift card, already discounted to $15, is now $4.50 when the promo code is used at checkout. Plus if you buy 5 cards (cards by mail, not eGift cards), they’ll send an extra $25 gift card free!

The offer is only through November 9, 2011, on Restaurant.com physical gift cards mailed with free shipping.  (The freebie offer is not on  eGift cards, although you can still get 70% off with the promo code GIFT on eGift cards and ordinary restaurant certificates.) According to the email we received, the free gift card will NOT appear in your shopping cart, but will be sent with the order.

Restaurant.com gift cards are already discounted, so using the extra 70% off coupon code at checkout GIFT:

  • A $25 value gift card, usually discounted to $15, is now $4.50
  • A $50 value gift card, usually discounted to $25, is now$7.50
  • A $100 value gift card, usually discounted to $40, is now $12

And if you buy 5 physical gift cards, you get one $25 gift card free. (Choose the Give Restaurant.com Gift Card option on the right of the page at the link.)

The physical gift cards are sent with free shipping and no expiration date, and the recipient redeems the card online for a specific restaurant certificate of their choice, from about 18,000 participating restaurants nationally.

Similar 70% discounts apply to specific restaurant certificates or to eGift cards (sent by email), in fact some restaurant certificates may be as low as $3 after the discount, but no freebie with those.

The Restaurant.com deal is valid through November 9, enter the promo code at checkout, the 70% discount doesn’t show till you’ve entered the code GIFT.

If buying a certificate to a specific restaurant, check the deal terms  and any minimum spend to make sure they’re good for you. EG, a $25 voucher that’s usually $10, will cost $3 with the promo code, and the restaurant may have a minimum purchase of $35. That means you’ll effectively end up paying $13 for $35 worth of food, which is a super deal but you need to be aware of the terms before tucking your napkin under your chin.

–Tania  FYI – I’ve given you my Restaurant.com afiliate links. To send a little love this way and help support ABQ on the Cheap (it doesn’t cost you anything) please use the links. Thanks!
