Freebies for Kids with Dion’s Club Read

Comments Off on Freebies for Kids with Dion’s Club Read

Dion’s Club Read is a great way to encourage kids to read, because they get FREE gifts in return… and maybe a chance to be Orbit’s guest at Isotopes Park!

The Dion’s Club Read program is for for preschool to 5th grade kids, running till July 25, 2014. The program is a partnership between Dion’s Pizza and the Albuquerque Isotopes, so it has a baseball theme – what’s not to love?

Here’s how it works: Pick up a scorecard brochure at a Dion’s location, or download it from the Dion’s Club Read website. After a child reads any six books of their choice (or it’s fine for parents and teachers to read books to youngsters who are still learning to read) they fill in the scorecard with the name of the books and they’ve hit a home run! The completed scorecard earns the student free gifts and a new scorecard. The child receives a different free gift for each scorecard they fill:

  • The prize for the First Home Run (the first scorecard of six books read) is a free backpack and an official Club Read T-shirt.
  • For the Second Home Run (the second scorecard of six books read) the child gets a ticket voucher to watch an Isotopes game, a coupon for a free small drink at Isotopes Park, and a new book.  They also get entered into a prize drawing.

The prize drawing is to win tickets to be Orbit’s guest at the Isotopes game with four Club Level seat tickets, plus a Dion’s Pizza, a Dion’s $20 gift card, and an autographed baseball. AND the child can make a ceremonial first pitch! How cool is that? If this doesn’t encourage kids to read, then I don’t know what will!

The Dion’s Club Read program is for preschool children through 5th grade, and it runs until Friday July 25, 2014.

All the Dion’s locations and details on how the offer works are in the brochure on the Dion’s Club Read webpage.

Comments Off on Sipapu Ski Resort Free Lodging and Lift Ticket Deals

Sipapu Ski Resort offers a bunch of freebies and deals to lure skiers and snowboarders on to the slopes at the family-friendly resort during this January to April 2013 ski season.

For one, you can score free lodging at Sipapu, Taos, Santa Fe or Las Vegas in one of their most popular promotions. Buy two adult lift tickets at $44 each and get one night’s free lodging.  The options are at Sipapu’s own lodging just yards from the base of the lifts, or you can get a free room in Taos at the Sagebrush Inn, El Pueblo Lodge, Quality Inn, or Indian Hills Inn; in Santa Fe at the Santa Fe Sage Inn, or free lodging in Las Vegas, NM at the Super 8.  The offer runs throughout the season with some date restrictions depending on the free lodging location you choose, so check the offer details at the above link to find the best deal for your trip.

Other Sipapu special offers for skiers include:

Car Load Days Deal Everyone in one car skis for $50 on Wednesdays January 9, 16, 23, and 30, plus many (but not all) Wednesdays in February through April. You can pack up to 6 skiers in one vehicle and get this deal – that’s under 10 bucks per person. But you must mention the Car Load Days Deal when collecting your lift tickets.

Two for One Tuesdays  Buy a full price lift ticket and get one lift ticket free on Tuesdays.  This offer is scheduled for every Tuesday in January and February, and then selected dates in March, but check the dates at the above link in case they change.

On Parents Ski Free Week from January 21 – 27, 2013, one parent gets a free lift ticket with the purchase of a teen or child full price full day lift ticket. Mention the Parents Ski Free deal when picking up the lift ticket for your kid.

A host of other Sipapu ski-for-free deals through the season make me wonder if anyone will pay full price! These people get free lift tickets:

  • Kids ski free aged 6 and under every day with proof of age
  • Fourth Graders ski free every day with proof such as a current report card
  • 40 Year Olds ski free every day – gotta love that one. If you’re forty, you ski or ride free with proof of age
  • 60 Year Olds ski free every day and you must be exactly 60, with proof of age.
  • Free lift ticket for skiers aged 70+ every day with proof of age
  • Active Military ski free with military ID. There are some blackout dates – see this link

You need to mention the relevant offer when you turn up, ‘cos, like, they’re not mind-readers. Sipapu is about a 2.5 hour drive from Albuquerque via Santa Fe, 20 miles southeast of Taos.

Comments Off on Free SAGA Baby Dance Classes

Thanks to the Sandia Acrobatic Gymnastics Academy – otherwise known as SAGA – for telling us about their free dance classes for the little ones! The VERY little ones – we’re not talking tap dancing here, just some fun for the babies!

The Sandia Acrobatic Gymnastics Academy free baby dance classes are for tots aged 6 to 18 months, with 30 minutes of musical movement every Tuesday and Friday morning from 9 am to 9:30 am.

The classes have just started, but they are ongoing and parents are welcome to take their child along at any time. This is just part of a whole roster of SAGA’s preschool gymnastics classes but the others require fees, while the twice-a-week baby class is free!

And save the date for the 2012 SAGA free Open House on Saturday September 22, to celebrate National Gymnastics Day. I’ll update you on details of that event nearer the time, as and when I receive them from the peeps at SAGA.

Meanwhile, take your Albuquerque baby along to groove at the free classes for ages 6 to 18 months on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9 am.

Sandia Acrobatic Gymnastics Academy is located at 2832 Girard Boulevard NE.

Free Haircuts for Kids

August 6, 2012 by

Comments Off on Free Haircuts for Kids

Here are two ways to get a free haircut for kids this month, just in time for back-to-school. If you know of any other kids’ freebies, tell us in the comment box below or drop me an email.

I’ve heard rumor that hair is supposed to grow faster in summer. Whether that’s true or not, these freebies are a snip to save dollars on kids’ haircuts before their bangs grow so long they’re walking into furniture.

Get a free haircut for kids at JCP Salons in the month of August 2012, for children in grades K – 6.  No coupon is needed, just make an appointment in stores or call 855-JCP-KIDS and mention the free haircut deal. (And please remember to tip even though the cut is free! The stylist will love you for it.) In Albuquerque, JCP Salons are in the JC Penney Stores at Cottonwood Mall and Coronado Center.

Underprivileged children can get a free haircut at the Kutz for Kidz Back to School event on August 12, 2012, as well as free school supplies!  (Advance registration required.) The Albuquerque Police Department teams up with local hairdressers to give children a professional free haircut, as well as backpacks, and school supplies. They also give kids a chance to meet law enforcement officers with demonstrations of APD’s Specialized Units. What’s more they’ll serve free drinks and BBQ hamburgers and hotdogs, and host appearances from UFC fighters and local athletes. Good for the APD for putting this together, and to the hairdressers volunteering their time!

Note that you need to register in advance for Kutz for Kidz and the free event is for underprivileged kids and youth. We have no information on what qualifies as underprivileged, or any age limits, but contact information is at their website. Kutz for Kidz is on Sunday August 12 from from 9 am to 6 pm at the APD Training Academy, 5412 2nd Street NW.
