It seems to be the weekend for car shows! I guess that’s all down to it being Father’s Day weekend, with families taking advantage of the summery weather to get outside and take dad to do macho things like admiring our fantastic New Mexico cars!

The Mopar Muscle Club of New Mexico annual Mopar Fest takes place on Saturday June 15, 2013, at Haynes Park in Rio Rancho, from 8 am – 3:30 pm, with free admission for spectators.

The event shows off classic and vintage Mopar muscle cars and trucks, antique cars, custom cars and restored vehicles. The event awards include best interior, race vehicle, paint job, and a people’s choice category. This year’s Mopar Fest includes a tribute to the Dodge Charger.

Plus you can expect family activities including horse-shoe pits and basketball courts, and where would we be without the food vendors? There are picnic tables too. The city pool at the park will be open if you fancy a splash around, and the kids can also hang out at the park’s playground.

The Rio Rancho Mopar Fest Car Show event details:

When:  Saturday June 15, 2013
Time:  8 am – 3:30 pm
Where:  Haynes Park in Rio Rancho
Price:  Admission free for spectators

Haynes Park is located at  2006 Grande Boulevard, Rio Rancho, opposite Intel.

And if you’re an auto show fan, don’t forget the free Sagebrush Auto Show on June 15-16  mentioned in a previous post.

The Father’s Day weekend Sagebrush Auto Show promises vintage cars, hot rods and motorbikes. Admission is free and they’re throwing in gratis food and drink too!

Roll down to the seventh annual Sagebrush Auto Show, on June 15 and 16, 2013 to check out the car action! I have zero advance event information about this year’s show, and their website is extremely sparse in any details. But I can tell you that in previous years they’ve had 200+ classic cars, custom cars, hot rods, trucks, and motorcycles. They’ve often had tractors too, and quirky exhibits like a batmobile, plus a raffle.

I DO know for sure that there will be free drinks and food like hot dogs (to go with the hot rods), chips and ice cream.

If you want more specifics on the Sagebrush Auto Show rather than turning up to take your chances, the organizers might post more info nearer the time at the Sagebrush Community Church Facebook page.  Because this IS a church event, note that you may well be encouraged to check out the church, as well as the cars!

The 2013 Sagebrush Auto Show takes place:

  • Saturday June 15 from 3 pm – 9 pm
  • Sunday June 16 from 9 am – 3 pm
  • Admission is free
  • At the Sagebrush Community Church Riverside Campus.

The Sagebrush Community Church is located at 6440 Coors Boulevard NW, at Coors and La Orilla.

No doubt about it, we New Mexicans love our cars! Roll up for this free auto show on May 19, 2013, and see if you can spot a little red Corvette…

The NM Council of Car Clubs Automobile Show takes place on Sunday May 19 at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History from 10 am to 3:30 pm, with free admission for spectators.

This is the 29th annual event for the car show, and if you mosey down to the museum in Old Town they’re promising a display in the parking lot of hundreds of antique, classic, exotic, and sports cars. The spotlight this year is on light trucks and Corvettes, and you can also see motorcycles and vintage camper trailers.

Inside the museum they’ll have a toy vehicle, model and auto art exhibition, and music in the Amphitheater is courtesy of Freddie Chavez and Sal Garcia. No New Mexico event is complete without FOOD and this one is no exception!  The Slate at the Museum cafe will be grilling hamburgers and hotdogs, as well as offering other food items on their menu.

If you want to vroom-vroom down there, the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History is on the corner of Mountain Road and 19th Street, in Albuquerque Old Town.

Father’s Day must be primetime for classic car shows, because this is the second one we’ve heard of. We already told you about one in Ruidoso, and this one takes place right here in Albuquerque.

This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (June 19, 20, and 21, 2009), at various times, the Sagebrush Auto Show has a bunch of events for participants and spectators. If you’re interested in participating, note that you can register ($15 per vehicle) on the day of the event. Highlights for spectators include:

  • Classic cars and motorcycles
  • Free food
  • Music
  • Antique tractors

Participants get free admission to the J & R Vintage Auto Museum in Rio Rancho and can take part in a Rod Run from the museum to the auto show site on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, judging occurs and trophies are awarded.

Sponsored by (and held at) Sagebrush Community Church, 6440 Coors Blvd NW, Albuquerque.
