Get a Curves free one week pass, only for new visitors to Curves clubs. This proved a popular deal when I mentioned it back in the spring, although quantities were capped and the offer ran out fast.  But it’s back for a limited time. UPDATE: This deal has now expired and links to the free pass are removed.

The Curves women-only fitness and weight-loss clubs claim that their 30-minute strength training and cardio workout exercises every major muscle group and burns up to 500 calories. Which by my calculation means I can enjoy a few more of our weekly food freebies and deals  isn’t that how it works?

Here at Cheap Central the temptation is more often to go for the coffee pot than go for the burn, and if someone mentions major muscle groups, I immediately think of the Chippendales. BUT in this season of lavish feasting, any way to keep my svelte (ha!) figure catches my attention.

For a limited time, you can get a free Curves one week guest pass to see if the Curves program is a good fit for you. This offer is only for new members, with no contracts and commitments, and it can be used for a free week guest pass on your first visit, or exchanged for a membership discount. The pass is valid until December 23, 2012.

The Curves free week pass is valid at participating locations – plug in your zip code for the nearest clubs. I see at least 9 participating Albuquerque Curves, including Bernalillo and Los Lunas.

Curves clubs are all franchises, independently owned and operated by locals.

I am now going to assess my major muscle groups. (Shh! Don’t tell Mr Cheap. )

And sorry to the fellas –  Curves clubs are for women only.

Jazzercise Fitness Classes $39 for Two Months

Comments Off on Jazzercise Fitness Classes $39 for Two Months

National: $39 for Two Months of Jazzercise Fitness Classes at Locations Nationwide (up to $122 value)Get two months of unlimited Jazzercise fitness classes for $39, and the joining fee is waived too, in this deal for new members who haven’t been to classes in the last six months.

My New Year’s resolutions have pretty much all gone out of the window by now, except for the one to eat MORE GREEN CHILE! Because it’s good for your health, natch.

This deal to get two months of Jazzercise fitness classes for $39 might be just the thing to stir your blood if you’re looking for a little encouragement to get into a better fitness routine. It’s for new Jazzercise members who haven’t attended classes within the last six months, and they’re waiving the joining fee too.

The offer is available to buy until Tuesday February 15, 2011, although I’m not clear exactly what time it ends on Tuesday or if there’s a quantity cap, so it might be better to buy sooner than later. Then you’ve got until May 15, 2011, to redeem your voucher and start using your two months of unlimited classes.

Jazzercise classes combine dance-based cardio with strength training and stretching to sculpt and tone, and they say you can burn up to 600 calories in each 60-minute workout. The package value is worth up to $122 in this national deal via MamaPedia SweetDeals, and it’s good at most Jazzercise locations nationwide. We’ve confirmed that these Albuquerque locations are participating:

  • Jazzercise Albuquerque University Area Fitness Center, 4902 Lomas Blvd. NE
  • Jazzercise Albuquerque Balloon Park Fitness Center, 4501 Alameda Blvd NE
  • Jazzercise Albuquerque West Fitness Center, 3296 Coors Rd. NW

Others may be too – I just ran out of time to contact them all! There are about eight Jazzercise studios in the area, including Rio Rancho, Cedar Crest, Los Lunas, and Bosque Farms, but to be sure your local one is taking part, call using the Jazzercise class locator.

Worst case scenario, there’s a no questions asked refund on the deal if it doesn’t work for you for any reason. Plus when you buy a deal through MamaPedia SweetDeals,  5% of the price is donated to a school you choose at time of purchase.

Well it was quite strenuous writing all that up, so I consider it my workout for the day. Back to the couch!

The Curves women-only fitness and weight-loss clubs claim that their 30-minute strength training and cardio workout exercises every major muscle group and burns up to 500 calories. Which by my calculation means I can enjoy a few more of our weekly food freebies and deals…  isn’t that how it works?

It has to be said that here at Cheap Central the temptation is more often to go for the coffee pot than go for the burn, and if someone mentions major muscle groups, we immediately think of the Chippendales.

BUT… summer = swimsuits, need we say more?

If you want to see if the Curves program is a good fit for you, there are two free Curves deals this summer at participating locations:

  • Try Curves free on Tuesdays – offer good for up to 3 visits for non-members only, until August 28, 2010
  • Free Curves two week trial membership for you and a friend when you take two UPC proofs of purchase from any 10 oz or larger size Frigo Cheese Heads String Cheese. You can also choose to swap the two week free trial for a membership discount. Offer valid to August 31, 2010.

Curves clubs are all franchises, independently owned and operated by locals.

And sorry to the fellas also straining to fit into last year’s swimsuit, Curves clubs are for women only.

Offers are only at participating locations, check with your local club. Here’s a list of Albuquerque Curves, including Bernalillo, Rio Rancho, Los Lunas, and further afield in New Mexico.

Thanks to Hortense P. Tightwad at Tucson on the Cheap for the tip, and I am now going to assess my major muscle groups. (Shh! Don’t tell my husband.)

50% off Initiation Fee at Snap Fitness

August 15, 2009 by
Filed under Half Off Deals, Spas & Health

Matt is one of the friendly managers at Snap Fitness' Academy & Tramway location.

Have you heard of Snap Fitness? It’s a new concept in gyms. Think compact and scaled down. And less expensive.

We had the opportunity to visit with Lynn Nannemann, co-owner of several Snap Fitness centers here in town, and visit the facility at Academy and Tramway. While we were there, we scored you this certificate for 50% off the initiation fee. But it’s good only for the first 50 new members (and it expires 8/31/09), so act fast!

Snap says its fitness centers have “everything you need and nothing you don’t,” and that’s an accurate assessment. However, that description doesn’t capture the clean, bright workout environment you’ll experience. We were impressed with the efficient, well-planned layout that packs in plenty of treadmills and elliptical trainers without feeling cramped. Plus, there’s a good-sized area for working out with free weights or your own equipment, like a fitness ball.

What Snap Fitness centers have:

  • A modest selection of aerobic exercise equipment, including the aforementioned treadmills and ellipticals
  • One set of Matrix or Snap-branded circuit training equipment
  • A matted area for working out with free weights, your own equipment, or a personal trainer
  • One upright tanning booth (additional $10/month for unlimited use)
  • Strategically placed TVs for your enjoyment
  • A clean, well-lit workout environment
  • Spacious restrooms with scales
  • Free initial consultation with a personal trainer
  • Free “fitness checkup” with personal trainer every three months
  • Personal webpage with various programs that let you check your progress, create a training plan, and other neat stuff
  • State of the art security
  • Friendly people to serve you
  • 24/7 availability (members receive a key card so they can work out when it’s convenient for them)

What Snap Fitness doesn’t have:

  • Pool
  • Sauna/steam room/hot tub
  • Locker rooms
  • Rows upon rows of equipment
  • Fitness classes
  • High fees
  • Contracts

Snap envisions creating thousands of small fitness centers in residential neighborhoods — ideally within 2 miles of a member’s home. The concept appeals to folks who don’t have space for a workout room at home and don’t want to drive a long distance to go to an expensive gym with a lot of features they’ll never use.

Snap Fitness operates on a no-contract basis, and monthly fees are pretty reasonable. The tiered fee schedule starts at $34.95 per month for a single person and escalates to $74.95 per month for a family of four. There’s a one-time “setup fee” of $50, plus a $20 fee for access cards. The clubs prefers members to set up an automatic withdrawal for the monthly fee, but you don’t have to. You can pay for a minimum of two months’ membership at a time or prepay six or twelve months, which gets you one month or three months free, respectively.

We were impressed with the security measures at the facility we visited, which we understand are standard at the clubs in Albuquerque. In addition to 24-hour surveillance, there’s an emergency call button that gets a private security firm on the line pronto, along with lanyard fobs a member can wear in case they experience a health or security issue while working out at times when the club isn’t staffed. Also, Lynn said the company ensured its facility lease included a provision to keep parking lot lights on from dusk to dawn so that it’s safer to walk to your car after dark.

There are three Snap Fitness locations in Albuquerque, and you can get a free pass by visiting the website.

Our thanks to Lynn and Matt for taking time to chat, give us a tour, and provide us with a 50% off certificate for our readers!
