Comments Off on Kids Bowl Free Summer 2013: Still Time to Play!

I mentioned the Kids Bowl Free program at the beginning of summer, but if you haven’t taken advantage of the deal yet there is still time for kids to play two free games every day. Plus you can purchase an optional family pass for $24.95 for up to four adults to play two games each a day.

Kids Bowl Free is a great summer program with bowling centers around the country, giving kids the chance to play two free games every day throughout the promotion. You need to sign up to the Kids Bowl Free 2013 promotion to get free bowling coupons every week.

The participating bowling centers in Albuquerque are Leisure Bowl, Holiday Bowl, Silva Lanes, and Tenpins & More in Rio Rancho. Even if you were registered with the program last year, you need to re-register for 2013.

Start by registering your child or children for one or more of these bowling center programs. If you sign up for more than one, you’ll need to use a different email address for each account:

Leisure Bowl Kids Bowl Free program runs until September 17, 2013, for youngsters aged 18 and under. They can play seven days a week from Noon to 6 pm.

Holiday Bowl Kids Bowl Free program runs until September 17, 2013, for bowlers aged 18 and under. At Holiday Bowl, kids may bowl free seven days a week from 9 am to 6 pm.

Silva  Lanes Kids Bowl Free runs to September 10, 2013, for kids aged 18 and under. Their free games are on Monday and Thursday from 10 am to 10 pm; on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 am to 5 pm; on Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm, and on Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm.

Tenpins & More Rio Rancho Kids Bowl Free program runs through August 31, 2013, for kids aged 15 and under. Their free games are valid on Monday to Wednesday and on Friday: 11 am to 2 pm; and on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 2 pm.

  • You can register up to six children on each registration form – if you have a bigger brood, you need to create an additional account with a different email address for the other children.
  • Then watch your email to confirm your subscription and then you’ll get an email with info to log in to your account and print out the coupons for 2 free games per day.
  • If the young bowler’s family members also want to play, then once you’ve registered a child for the free bowling, you have the option to buy a family bowling pass for $24.95, which allows up to 4 adults to each play 2 free games a day too.
  • If you don’t have your own bowling shoes, you still have to pay regular shoe rental rates
  • Check the FAQ for any other details on how Kids Bowl Free works.

If you don’t know where these Albuquerque bowling centers are located, you’ll find them here: Leisure Bowl is at 7400 Lomas Blvd NE. Silva Lanes is at 3010 Eubank Boulevard NE. Skidmore’s Holiday Bowl is at 7515 Lomas Blvd NE. Tenpins & More is at 1416 Deborah Rd SE, Rio Rancho.

Cliff’s Amusement Park Discounts: Save $7 Sundays and More

Comments Off on Cliff’s Amusement Park Discounts: Save $7 Sundays and More

The Cliff’s Amusement Park 50% off coupon I mentioned earlier this summer has now expired, but you can still score savings for your visit to Cliff’s in the remainder of the 2013 season.

The easiest way to save is to plan ahead for your visit and buy tickets online in advance at the Cliff’s Amusement Park tickets page. For example, current offers include:

  • Save $7 Sundays in August 2013 with a Ride Pass at $18.95 instead of the regular $25.95 on the door. The Sunday Splash & Ride pass is $22.95 instead of $29.95, and Sunday WaterMania is $8.95 instead of $15.95.
  • Save $3 on a Ride Pass at $22.95 instead of the door price of $25.95. A Ride Pass is valid for unlimited rides on a single day on any of the days Cliff’s is open during the remainder of the season. It doesn’t include WaterMania!
  • Save $3 on an all day Splash and Ride Pass, which includes WaterMania! The discount price is $26.95.

They’re also offering 10-20% discounts on Cliff’s Fun Cards to use on rides, games, and food:

  • Buy a $55 Fun Card for $50
  • Buy a $92 Fun Card for $80
  • Buy a $120 Fun Card for $100

Cliff’s Amusement Park is only open on Saturday and Sunday for the rest of the 2013 season, until September 22.

Find all the current discounts for Cliff’s Amusement Park on their ticket sales page – hit the Buy Tickets Now button at the link to see all the options.

Albertsons Supermarket has also been running an offer for $6 off Ride Passes, but I’m not sure how long that deal continues. Ask in store or has anyone nabbed the Albertsons deal for Cliff’s in the last few days? If you have, share the love and tell us in the comment box below!

Military personnel with ID can get a discount on Cliff’s Splash & Ride Passes when they purchase the passes from the Kirtland Base Ticket Sales Office, at the Arts & Crafts Center on the corner of Wyoming and Frost.

The park is still fondly known by many Albuquerque locals as Uncle Cliff’s, even though they changed the name two decades ago. We were all very sad and sorry to hear when Uncle Cliff himself, Clifford Hammond, passed away earlier this year.  What a wonderful legacy he left us!

If you have any questions about the online ticket promotions, please contact Cliff’s for details.  I don’t make the deals, I just pass the info on to you.

Cliff’s Amusement Park is located at 4800 Osuna Rd NE. Here’s where you’ll find Cliff’s opening hours.

Sandia Mountain BioBlitz 2013

Comments Off on Sandia Mountain BioBlitz 2013

An ecological scavenger hunt for nature and wildlife-lovers, families, and anyone who just enjoys the great outdoors!

The Sandia Mountain Natural History Center BioBlitz 2013 heads to the hills on the evening of Friday May 17 and continues on Saturday May 18, from 7 am to 2 pm.

This free event is basically a back-to-nature scavenger hunt, where participants (you!) join with scientific experts to hunt for as many living organisms as you can. That includes mammals, insects, birds, reptiles, wildflowers, and trees, and each group of participants is led by a science bod while you collect data on the flora and fauna.

It’s a family-friendly event, and kids can join in. They’ll even have a special family activities tent on Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm, with bug hunts and track making. You can also see birds from Talking Talons, reptiles from the NM Herpetological Society, and a wild fire engine from New Mexico State Forestry.

There are oodles of guided hikes to choose from. For example, you could join the dusk hike or hikes for birding, wildflowers, or reptiles. Note that hikes are up to 2 miles long, and take 1.5 to 2 hours each. They have a limit of 20 participants per hike, so arrive in good time as it’s first-come, first-served.

See the full BioBlitz schedule for details on what’s happening when.

They suggest you wear sturdy shoes and take all usual gear for outdoor activities (hat, sun protection, water, snacks) and you’re also welcome to take a picnic lunch. Take your own cameras and binoculars and field guides if you have them. Leave your pooch at home as dogs are not permitted on site during BioBlitz.

BioBlitz 2013 runs on Friday May 17 from 4 pm to 7 pm, and on Saturday May 18 from 7 am to 2 pm.

It’s organized in conjunction with the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, and takes place at the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center, 60 Columbine Lane, in Cedar Crest. Take exit 175 from I-40 East, along NM 14 / The Turquoise Trail. Full directions to the SMNHC are at the BioBlitz website links above.

Albuquerque Aquarium Sleep with the Sharks

Comments Off on Albuquerque Aquarium Sleep with the Sharks

ABQ BioPark Aquarium overnight events always sound great to me, although I’ve spent more time trying to avoid sharks than cozy up for the night with them.

The ABQ BioPark Aquarium sleepovers for all the family include activities such as games and crafts with supplies provided, and everyone visits the touchpool and can watch sea-themed movies in the theater. They also tell you all about the underwater critters and their night-time habits.

The next Aquarium Overnight with available spaces is on April 12, 2013.

The noctural adventure isn’t dirt cheap, but at $30 per person I think it’s a pretty good deal for such an unusual experience, and makes a great treat for kids – maybe for a birthday or other celebration. (And hey, it’s educational!) Albuquerque BioPark Society members receive a 10% discount.

Events start at 7 pm on the Friday night, and finish at 8 am on the Saturday morning – just in time to go get fish tacos or lox and bagels for breakfast :-)

Registrations must be made well in advance as space is naturally limited – which is why I’m reminding you now so you can book in good time. An adult has to attend the sleepover with any children aged under 18. (Yeah, I know. You were just thinking about your next date night or wedding anniversary celebration and thinking “Geeze, 30 bucks overnight is cheaper than a baby-sitter!” Sorry, it doesn’t work like that.)

The next ABQ BioPark Aquarium Overnight events for 2013 are:

  • April 12 – 13
  • May 17 – 18
  • August 23 – 24
  • September 20 – 21

You can reserve online at the link above, or for all the details and to book a space call (505) 848-7180.

And let’s hope the sharks don’t snore…

Albuquerque BioPark Aquarium is located at 2601 Central Avenue NW.

Balloon Museum Spring Break Family Day: March 13

Comments Off on Balloon Museum Spring Break Family Day: March 13

The Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum Spring Break Family Day might be just the answer if you’re looking for something different (and cheap or even free) to do with the kids while they’re off school.

The Albuquerque Balloon Museum Spring Break Family Day is on Wednesday March 13, 2013.  Take a picnic to enjoy on the lawn, kids have plenty of space to run around there 😉 and join family day activities.

If you go for the free Stories in the Sky program from 9:30 to 10:15 am  you can stay on for the rest of the day’s activities for free too! After 10:15 am you pay regular museum admission.

The Stories in the Sky program is for kids aged 6 months to 6 years and is free for children and accompanying adults. On March 13, the Stories in the Sky line-up includes music by the Sage Harrington Duo and stories by Laurie Magovern.

The rest of the Spring Break Family day activities run from 10:15 am – 3 pm and include:

  • Kite-flying (take your kite) or make a windsock to fly outside
  • Games with bubbles and parachutes, sidewalk art, and weather scavenger hunts around the museum.
  • Butterfly demonstrations with Wings of Enchantment and a butterfly presentation at 1 pm
  • 11 am – Live music by the Sage Harrington Duo
  • 12 noon – Live music by the New Mexican Marimba Band
  • 1:45 pm – Balloon sculpture with Tall Paul

And of course you can check out the Balloon Museum exhibits while you’re there. I hope they’ll have the hot air balloon simulator in action. I love that gizmo – but always ‘land’ in the river.

Balloon Museum Spring Break Family Day events on March 13 come with regular museum admission from
10:15 am. (It’s free admission earlier if you go for Stories in the Sky from 9:30 to 10:15 am.)

  • Adults:  $4, or $3 for New Mexico residents. Take NM resident ID to get the $1 off admission!
  • Seniors aged 65+:  $2
  • Children 4 – 12:  $1
  • Kids aged 3 and under get in free!

Some activities depend on weather, so let’s hope it’s a warm and calm day. If you miss the Spring Break Family Day, then maybe take the family to the Balloon Museum on Sunday morning – it’s free admission for all every Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm, barring Balloon Fiesta weeks.

Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum is at 9201 Balloon Museum Dr NE.
