The ABQ Home Expo returns for 2014 on the weekend of August 23 and 24, and you can get $2 off admission by buying tickets online in advance.

I’m pretty sure the ABQ Home Expo used to be called the ABQ Home and Lifestyle Expo way back in the dark ages. But whatever they choose to call it, we like to see discounted admission! So here’s the deal.

Get $2 off ABQ Home Expo adult admission at Expo New Mexico if you buy tickets online. That makes it $6 per ticket instead of $8 on the door. There’s no online discount for seniors’ and kids’ tickets for this show, but they cost less in the first place. Admission is $6 for seniors and kids.  Children aged 11 and under go free.

The August 2014 ABQ Home Expo runs on:

  • Saturday August 23 from 10 am to 5 pm
  • Sunday August 24 from 10 am to 4 pm.

I love these events because we get to see everything that’s new in home decor and improvements, kitchens, design trends, gadgets, products, and more. For the very first time, the Expo will feature a Local Artisan’s Market.

The ABQ Home Expo is held in the Manuel Lujan Buildings at EXPO New Mexico, home of the New Mexico State Fairgrounds. If you drive there, the parking fee is $5.

Comments Off on $1 Off Admission to Rio Grande Arts & Crafts Festival Spring Show

The Rio Grande Arts & Crafts Festival spring show is coming up this weekend but don’t pay the full admission price… get $1 off using the coupon.

The Rio Grande Arts and Crafts Festival will be springing out at EXPO New Mexico from March 7 – 9, 2014.  Around 200 artists and craftspeople from all over the country display their work, give demonstrations, and, of course, sell their arts and crafts. All kinds of creative arts are represented, from glassmaking and painting to pottery and jewelry… and much more.

Kids can enjoy creating their own work of art at the Kids’ Creation Station, and naturally there will be food vendors to feed you everything from fajitas to gyros, plus specialty food items to buy from the culinary booths – and plenty of free samples! The festival also includes live entertainment, although at time of writing their website doesn’t give the entertainment schedule yet. Hmm, that’s strange, they usually have the line-up in place by now. But previous performers have included Syd Masters and the Swing Riders and Mariachi Fiesta Internacional, so expect some good grooves whoever is on the roster this year.

Regular adult admission is $7 or you can get a 3-day pass for $9, but save a buck by printing out the Festival’s $1 off admission coupon valid on either a one day ticket or the festival pass. Plus it’s free admission for kids aged under twelve.

If you use the $1 discount coupon, it’s good for one admission or pass only, so you need a coupon for each adult going to the show.

  • When: Friday March 7 through Sunday March 9, 2014
  • Times: 10 am – 5 pm

The Rio Grande Arts & Crafts Festival takes place at the EXPO New Mexico Manuel Lujan building. Be prepared to pay $5 for parking at the fairgrounds.

Tinkertown Opens With Cheap Admission

Comments Off on Tinkertown Opens With Cheap Admission

Tinkertown Museum on the Turquoise Trail is one of my favorite places, and they’re back in action for the 2012 season on April 1, with cheap admission for the Grand Opening.

According to a note on the Tinkertown Museum Facebook page, admission for the Grand Opening Day on Sunday April 1 is just $1 for adults, and 50 cents for kids. It’s the same price as their very first season on the wayback machine, 29 years ago.  (I wish I could buy my groceries at 29-year-ago prices too.)

For the rest of the 2012 season, Tinkertown adult admission will be $3.50. That’s still great value for this fabulous place.  Senior tickets (aged 62+) will be $3, and admission for kids aged 4 – 16 will be $1.

Tinkertown Museum is an ‘only in New Mexico’ extravaganza of folk art by the late Ross Ward, including a model circus and a miniature Wild West town that stretches the length of a room, plus his amazing collections of American ephemera. It’s a great place to browse a few hours – you always spot something you hadn’t noticed before. (Let’s face it, it’s even more ram-jam packed than my untidy office, only a lot more enjoyable.)

The rambling building is constructed from over 50,000 glass bottles and inside you can see the miniature animated wood-carved figures and ask your destiny of Esmerelda, the antique arcade-style fortune teller.

Kids love Tinkertown, and I always take out-of-state visitors to Tinkertown too. We inevitably spend longer than I anticipated, and it’s one of those memories they’re still talking about years later.

Tinkertown opens from 9 am – 6 pm, with final admission at 5:30 pm, but you really need to allow more than a measly 30 minutes to take in everything there is to see. Tinkertown is on the road to Sandia Crest off Highway 14,  the Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway, about 25 miles east of Albuquerque.
