I’ve mentioned ASUNM Southwest Film Center before as they sometimes give free movie screenings. Here’s a reminder that even without a freebie, tickets are still a good deal.

ASUNM Southwest Film Center is a student run, independent theater on the University of New Mexico Campus, and movies are open to the public as well as to UNM students and staff.

Ticket prices are $5 for the public, $3 for UNM students, and $4 for UNM faculty and staff. You can also get a $15 student season pass or $20 general season pass.

The current 2015 film season, shown on Thursdays through Sundays, include:

  • Telluride Mountain Film Festival (February 13 and 14)
  • Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times (February 26-March 1)
  • Toy Story (March 26-29) kids get in free with a paying adult
  • East of Eden (April 2-5) come celebrate the 60th anniversary of this film
  • Birdman (April 16-19)

Movies vary widely and there are many more in the series, I’m just picking out the ones I like the sound of! See the full ASUNM Southwest Film Center schedule.

The ASUNM Southwest Film Center is located on the lower level of UNM’s Student Union Building. Enter from Central Avenue as if going to Popejoy Hall, then go past Popejoy and it’s the next block on the left.

Comments Off on $1 Tickets to Family Movies Summer 2013: Starts May 28

Here’s a cheap deal to take the kids to see family films in Cinemark’s Summer Movie Clubhouse!  Tickets are $1 each in this movie madness series over summer 2013. Or pay 50 cents for each movie if you buy a series punch card in advance.  The summer movies start screening on May 28, 2013.

Albuquerque cinemas participating in the national Summer Movie Clubhouse promotion are Cinemark Movies 8 and Cinemark Movies West. They show different movies each week for ten weeks, all rated either G or PG. All tickets – for adults or children – cost $1.

Or see all 10 movies for 50 cents each with a $5 punch card for the entire series at one location. Purchase a punch card in advance from the box office or from cinemark.com, while supplies last. You can only use a card for one person per movie, so you can’t take two people to the same film on one punch card. (If you have two punch cards however, different people/friends can use them each week.  The punch cards aren’t personalized to a name, so as long as only one person is using each punch card for admission each week, you’re good.)

Get a PDF of movie schedules at these links, and also a coupon for $1 off a Movie Snack Pack, or a candy upgrade:

The $1 movies at Cinemark Movies 8 are on Tuesdays at 9:30 am, from May 28 to July 30.

Comments Off on Harry Potter Film Festival On The Cheap & A Freebie

This Harry Potter holiday film festival is a wizard deal if you’re trying to keep your little darlings entertained in the days after Christmas. And you don’t have to break into the Gringotts Wizarding Bank to pay for it.

The KiMo Theatre’s Harry Potter Film Festival runs from December 26 to 29, 2012, and admission for muggles is $2 each, regardless of age. If you or your budding Harry, Ron, or Hermione, or even your Hagrid, go dressed in a costume based on any character in the Harry Potter series, you also get a free popcorn from the concessions. Refills are conjured up at the magically cheap price of 25 cents.

The family film festival times start on December 26 (or Boxing Day as we call it in my native country, England) and are shown in the same order as they were originally released in movie theaters, the same order as the books. So you can basically live in there for four days and see the whole series start to finish, or pick your favorites or any you missed to watch as a one-off.

This is the Harry Potter Family Film Festival line-up at time of writing:

  • December 26 at 2 pm:   Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
  • December 26 at 5 pm:   Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  • December 27 at 2 pm:   Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  • December 27 at 5 pm:   Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • December 28 at 2 pm:   Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • December 28 at 5 pm:   Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
  • December 29 at 2 pm:   Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I
  • December 29 at 5 pm:   Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

The Harry Potter films are rated PG are doors open 30 minutes before show time.

If you aren’t dressed in costume to get the free popcorn, take real cash for the Kimo Theatre concessions.

The KiMo Theatre is located at 423 Central Avenue NW.
