Borders Going Out Of Business Sale: More Discounts

Borders Albuquerque store discounts through Wednesday August 10, 2011.

I’m always sad to see a bookstore close, whether it’s a big national chain like Borders or a local independent store. But, as mentioned in a previous post, while Borders stores are closing there are savings to be had in the sale.

Prices have dropped further on the Borders Going Out Of Business Sale through Wednesday August 10, 2011. Everything in store is 25% to 50% off,  plus an extra 10% off sale prices through Wednesday. Note that this is only in Borders stores, not for purchases at the Borders.com website.

Borders discounts on original prices include:

  • 30% Off – All music
  • 40% Off – Borders romance books, business books, politics, government, and law
  • 40% Off – Various other books including The Help, and the Hunger Games Trilogy

But they’re claiming EVERYTHING is 25% to 50% off the original price, plus an extra 10% off the sale price till August 10.

Borders Rewards Plus has been extended until August 10, and members  receive additional discounts on qualifying merchandise till that date.

Prices may well drop further before they finally close the doors, but then there won’t be as much choice left.  So it’s stock up time before the stock runs out.

I hope the people working at the Albuquerque Borders find new jobs very soon.

Albuquerque Borders stores are located at 5901 Wyoming Boulevard NE, and Uptown at 2240 Q Street NE.

Borders Albuquerque store discounts, and spend those Borders Bucks in time!

I’m always sad to see a bookstore close, whether it’s a big national chain like Borders or a local independent store. But it’s happening, and as Borders stores are closing there are savings to be had in the sale.

The Borders Going Out Of Business Sale offers 20-40 percent off merchandise, only in the stores, not for purchases at the Borders.com website. They continue to accept gift cards, but if you have any Borders Bucks to spend, the last day to redeem them is Sunday July 31, 2011.

Borders discounts on original prices are:

  • 20% Off – Children’s books, eReaders, cookbooks, and books on fitness and travel
  • 30% Off – Borders bestsellers, business books, and romance books, plus calendars and music
  • 40% Off – Blu-ray, video games, greetings cards, and items at the newsstand

Time to stock up on greetings cards, at the very least! And I hope the people working at the Albuquerque Borders find new jobs very soon.

Albuquerque Borders stores are located at 5901 Wyoming Boulevard NE, and Uptown at 2240 Q Street NE.

Free Family Games Nights

Comments Off on Free Family Games Nights

I love games. Mr Cheap is not so keen, unless they involve food. I think I like games more because I usually beat him. (Unless they involve food…)

Anyway, the free family games nights on Thursdays at Borders this month give all the family a chance to play, although the games nights are recommended for ages 6 upwards.  Try out games including 7 ATE 9, Callisto, Top Trumps, Split Decision, Billionaire, Rage, and Word on the Street, and expect some store giveaways and free samples from SBC. Ah! So there IS food then 😉

The Borders games nights start at 6 pm on:

  • Thursday January 13 (tonight!)
  • Thurday January 20
  • Thursday January 27

All three Albuquerque store locations are playing. That’s:

Full event listings and details are at each of the store links above…. just scroll down a bit.

Thanks to our friend Teresa at Florida on the Cheap for the tip – I bet she’s a dab hand at Monopoly.

Borders Promo Support ABQ Schools: Dec 4-5

Comments Off on Borders Promo Support ABQ Schools: Dec 4-5

Buy at Borders this weekend and get a $15 donation to a school of your choice.

Thanks to reader Sharon for sending this tip! It’s not a deal for YOU but it’s a deal for Albuquerque schools. The Borders Super Classroom Days promotion this weekend December 4 and 5, 2010, means that if you make a purchase in a Borders store, you’ll get a $15 DonorsChoose.org gift card that you can use to make a donation to a classroom of your choice.

If you buy the book Waiting for Superman, they’ll add an extra $15 to your donation.

I’m trying to see the catch in this but I can’t. They don’t give a minimum spend so presumably there isn’t one…. but this is last minute info so I haven’t had time to contact Borders book stores and check out more details.

Here are some of the 56 City of Albuquerque schools registered at DonorsChoose.org, so you can use your free gift card to make a donation to these classrooms. Or use the search and filter tools in the right toolbar for other metro areas or specific schools of interest to you.

The offer runs at Borders for in store purchases only, on December 4 and 5, 2010.

Albuquerque Borders stores are located at 2240 Q St. NE, 5901 Wyoming Blvd. NE, and 10420 Coors Bypass NW.

Children aged 12 and under get a free book at Borders – no purchase necessary. If you missed our post on this Borders promotion at the beginning of the summer, you’ve still got till August 26 to get a free book for your child.

In the Borders Double-Dog Dare promotion, kids aged 12 and under get a free book from selected titles when they show they’ve read ANY 10 books this summer.  Here’s how it works:

  • Children read any ten books they like – no purchase is necessary from Borders.
  • Download the Double-Dog Dare form from the Borders website and print it out.
  • Write the names of the ten books on the form and get it signed by a parent or guardian.
  • Take it into a Borders store through August 26, 2010 and choose a freebie from the titles on offer.

Select from ten free books (these may change over time) but they currently include:

  • Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown
  • Ramona the Brave by Beverly Cleary
  • Miss Daisy is Crazy! by Dan Gutman
  • Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Cleary
  • The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan
  • Hoot by Carl Hiaasen
  • The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare
  • Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes
  • The River by Gary Paulsen

The Borders free kid’s book deal is only available in stores, for children aged up to 12, and it runs till August 26, 2010.

If you like this deal, also check out the free kid’s book from Barnes & Noble Passport to Summer Reading offer, which also requires no purchase, and children read any 8 books to pick a free paperback  from an even larger selection. The B&N promo runs till September 7, 2010.

A smart bookworm would use the same list of books they’ve read and apply for a freebie at both Borders and Barnes & Noble!

There’s one Dickey’s in Albuquerque and one in Las Cruces.

If so, here’s your chance to check it out for half price. Purchase one $25 dining certificate and get a second one FREE! This would be a great treat for out-of-town guests during Balloon Fiesta, or just keep the savings all to yourself. Trust us when we tell you the duck quesadillas are primo. The Pueblo Harvest Cafe is located in the north valley.
  • Half Price New Mexican Food: Here’s a shout-out to our friends in Los Lunas. Buy a $20 gift certificate to Guadalupe’s New Mexican Restaurant for just $10! Now that’s cheap chow. • Kids Eat Free: Also from Applebee’s. We saw this advertised on the marquee at the Menaul location, and a friendly staff person there gave us the deets: ALL your kids can eat free on Mondays with the purchase of at least one adult meal. The friendly staff person said she believed most of the Applebee’s in Albuquerque were participating. Call ahead to verify.
  • Half Price Restaurant Certificates: Using Alibi Bucks, you can get get dining certificates for half off. So, for example, purchase a $20 gift certificate to a local restaurant and pay just $10!
