Here’s a shout-out to our BFF, Michelle!
Mark your calendar for Saturday and Sunday, November 21 & 22 (2009), and head up to Placitas between 10:00am and 5:00pm for the 28th annual Placitas Holiday Sale! Free admission at three separate venues allows you to enjoy (and purchase) art made by over 80 artists from New Mexico and beyond.
But that’s not all.
You’ll also enjoy free samples of hot, mulled cranberry wine, cheese, and more. Plus, food will be available at every site, so you can nosh your way through this shopping extravaganza!
Most importantly, you can buy a $1 raffle ticket for a chance to win one of several fine art items donated by participating artists. All proceeds from this raffle benefit the Arts in the School program at Placitas Elementary School. In the past six years, the Placitas Holiday Sale has raised over $6,000 for the program through this raffle!
What a fun way to kick off the holiday shopping season: a beautiful drive to Placitas, hot mulled wine, and leisurely browsing of fine art.
To get to the Village of Placitas, take I-25 north to Exit 242 (Bernalillo/Placitas), and head east.

Man, we are seriously bummed to learn this event has been cancelled. Sorry, everyone!
Here’s your chance to sample some of the best chile samples around and to meet Jane Butel, the legendary southwestern chef!
On Saturday, October 17 (2009), from 9:00am – 6:00pm, High Desert United Methodist Church hosts the High Desert Chile Fiesta to benefit the mission and ministries of the church. The event has three components: a Chili Cook-Off, Food Vendors, and Arts & Crafts Market.
The Chili Cook-Off is sanctioned by the Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI). Your $5 (adult) entry fee includes tickets to sample the cook-off recipes. You can taste the red chili, green chile stew, and “creative use of green chile” entries. Then see who takes home the trophy!
Beyond the chili cook-off, you can wander the grounds to sample food from vendors, browse terrific handmade arts & crafts items, and meet Jane Butel, who will be presenting free cooking demonstrations and signing copies of her cookbooks.
Did we mention kids under 12 admitted free with parents? This should be a great, family friendly, and CHEAP event!
The event will be held (we believe) at Haines Park in Rio Rancho. We’ll confirm that and remind you about this fun event a few days beforehand.
