Go hog crazy this weekend at Rio Rancho’s Ninth Annual Pork & Brew BBQ State Championship from July 6 – 8, 2012.

Among the barbe-kudos for Pork & Brew: It’s one of the the largest events in New Mexico, with attendance over 20,000 last year, and it was voted on the 2009 and 2012 lists of Top 100 Events in North America by the American Bus Association (Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta makes the list too!).

Rio Rancho’s Ninth Annual Pork & Brew BBQ State Championship runs from Friday July 6 to Sunday July 8, 2012, and the event includes live entertainment, chain saw carving,  a magic show, and kids’ activities such as fun jumps. See the full Pork & Brew schedule in a PDF.

And then of course there’s the BBQ… this is an officially sanctioned Kansas City Barbecue Society event, and contest winners go to Kansas City, KS, to participate at the nationals.

Admission is a budget-friendly $5, or $3 for seniors (60+) and for kids aged 3-12. Tots aged 2 or under go free!  If you’re licking your lips, note that this is for entry only, you have to fork out for food.

Ticket packages including BBQ Bucks to spend at food vendors are available today, July 5, offering:

  • $25 BBQ Bucks and two Pork & Brew admissions for $25
  • $50 BBQ Bucks and four Pork & Brew admissions for $50
  • $75 BBQ Bucks and six Pork & Brew admissions for $75

So if  you spend those BBQ Bucks, you effectively get your admission for free. Note however that there is a $5 “convenience charge” per package if you buy online, plus a $2.50 ‘will call’ charge to collect the ticket. So those packages save you more if you have a larger party going to the event, and you’re gonna eat a lot of BBQ!

The Pork & Brew State BBQ Championship ticket packages are only available through Thursday July 5, online until 11.59 pm, or from the Santa Ana Star Center Box office (1-888-694-4849) until 5 pm.

Pork & Brew BBQ State Championship 2012 takes place at the Santa Ana Star Center:

  • Friday July 6 from noon to 9 pm
  • Saturday July 7 from 10 am to 8 pm
  • Sunday July 8 from 11 am to 7 pm

Santa Ana Star Center is located at 3001 Civic Center, Rio Rancho.

Bishop’s Lodge Ranch Resort and Spa’s cowboy cookouts in Santa Fe look like a wild west way to spend holiday Sundays this summer 2012.  These are real YeeeeeeeHa! cowboy cookouts on a Santa Fe mesa top with live music and dancing, barbecue and all the fixin’s, and kids eat half price or free depending on age…

I’ve visited this resort property, including a ride up to the mesa top where they hold the cowboy cookout, and it’s a sweet spot with mighty purty views – should be a good vantage point to admire the sunset while kicking up your heels.

The Bishop’s Lodge cowboy cookout includes a full gourmet barbeque catered by the resort’s Las Fuentes Restaurant & Bar, with steaks, ribs, burgers, and brats, plus live country western music and dancing.  The first one is on May 27, 2012.

The price isn’t bad for dinner and entertainment: $39.95 per person, with discounts for seniors ($34.95), under 18’s ($19.95) and it’s free for kids under 5.

These are the summer 2012 dates – book in advance as they can fill fast.  All cookouts start at 6 pm.

  • May 27 at 6 pm for Memorial Day weekend
  • June 17 at 6 pm for Father’s Day weekend
  • July 1 at 6 pm for Independence Day weekend

Where: Bishop’s Lodge Ranch Resort and Spa in Santa Fe

Price:  $39.95 for adults
               $34.95 for seniors
               $19.95 for under 18’s
               Kids under 5 eat free

Spaces are limited and you need to reserve for the Bishop’s Lodge barbecue cookout in advance on (505) 819-4035. Trail rides will also be available as an add-on.

Although Bishop’s Lodge is set is a quiet spot in the Tesuque Valley surrounded by Santa Fe National Forest, it’s only about a 5 minute drive from Santa Fe Plaza. (I’ve timed it!). Here’s the map and directions to Bishop’s Lodge Ranch Resort and Spa.

Bishop’s Lodge Ranch Resort and Spa’s cowboy cookout in Santa Fe on Friday August 6, 2010 looks like a wild west way to end the week! This is a real YeeeeeeeHa! cowboy cookout on a Santa Fe mesa top with live music and dancing, barbecue and all the fixin’s, and kids eat half price or free depending on age…

I took a tour of the resort property recently including a ride up to the mesa top where they hold the cowboy cookout, and it’s a sweet spot with mighty purty views – should be a good vantage point to admire the sunset while kicking up your heels.

The Bishop’s Lodge cowboy cookout includes a full barbeque catered by the resort’s Las Fuentes Restaurant & Bar, and actor/singer/songwriter David Manzanares provides the tunes for dancing with cowboy songs, country and western, and Latin music.

The price is right too for dinner and entertainment: $24.95 per person, with discounts for seniors ($19.95), under 18’s ($12) and it’s free for kids under 5.

When: Friday August 6, 2010

Time: 6 pm

Where: Bishop’s Lodge Ranch Resort and Spa in Santa Fe

Price: $24.95 for adults
               $19.95 for seniors
               $12 for under 18’s
               Kids under 5 eat free

Spaces are limited and you need to reserve for the barbecue cookout in advance. Trail rides will also be available as an add-on. Note: the website says Bill Hearne’s performing, but the last notice I had on it confirms that music is by David Manzanares.
