This Thrift Town Labor Day sale celebrates the Labor Day weekend with two days of different savings on September 1 and 2, 2013.

They’ll be working hard at Thrift Town over the holiday as the Thrift Town Labor Day sale offers:

  • 30% off everything on Sunday September 1
  • 50% off all clothing on Monday September 2

In addition to gently-used clothes for men, women, and kids, Thrift Town sells small appliances, kitchen wares, furniture and household items, music, jewelry, sports gear, and toys – so they would come under the ‘30% off everything’ Labor Day sale on Sunday! The store is quite a treasure trove of these and many other types of items, so what you find on any day will vary. (And that’s half the fun of shopping there.)

As with all Thrift Town sales, the Labor Day sale excludes gift cards and already-reduced Color Tag items, plus it also excludes Thrift Town logo gear. You also can’t use any coupons you’ve got stockpiled on the day of the sale.

Pick up a Thrift Town Super Shopper card while you’re in the store. You get a stamp for every $10 you spend, and once the card is full with 20 stamps, you earn $10 off your next $20+ purchase.

Also note that Seniors aged 60+ get 30% off clothing at Thrift Town every Monday.  You can’t combine the senior discount with any other promo.

The Thrift Town Albuquerque store is at 3900 Menaul Blvd NE

Free Amazon Prime 2-Day Shipping for College Students

Comments Off on Free Amazon Prime 2-Day Shipping for College Students

If you need your text books or anything else in a hurry, the Amazon Prime service includes free two-day shipping for speedy delivery, with no minimum order. The service usually costs $79 a year, but college students joining this free Amazon Student membership program get free Amazon Prime for six monthsStudents signing up for the program by October 15, 2013, are also entered into a drawing to win $30,000 in cash.

Other Amazon Student membership benefits include student discounts and news on offers, giveaways, and promotions especially for students. It’s free to sign up for Amazon Student with free Amazon Prime, you just need to verify that you’re a current student at a college or university by providing a .edu email address. Once that .edu address is verified, use any email you choose to manage your Amazon account.

The free Amazon Prime offer does not include movie streaming, nor the Kindle Owners Lending Library to borrow books. At the end of the free six months, members are switched to a discounted Amazon Prime membership costing $39 a year – which is still a saving on the regular $79 rate, and this does include video streaming and the Kindle library. If you don’t want to be automatically upgraded, make sure you select the “do not upgrade” option during your free six months.

See all the terms, details, and benefits of the free Amazon Prime Student deal, which you can also use to order products other than books – perhaps all the kitchen stuff or electronics you’ll need to kit out your new student digs. As long as they item is eligible for Amazon Prime shipping, you’re good to go.

Existing Amazon Prime members (who are students) can still register for Amazon Student, and get a refund on the remainder of their subscription.

I’d always encourage you to support your local independent bookstore such as Bookworks and Page One, or, of course, the University of New Mexico Bookstore if you study at UNM.  But if you buy online anyway, this is a great way to save on shipping costs, especially if you need your books in a rush because you’ve left your studying till the last minute (Tsk tsk! Yeah, I know, we’ve all done it…)

NOT A STUDENT AND WANT TO TRY FREE AMAZON PRIME?

Everyone else can still try Amazon Prime with a free one month trial. The free month trial includes unlimited instant video streaming of movies and TV shows.  Be sure to cancel your subscription before the free trial ends or select “do not upgrade” once you’re registered for the freebie, if you don’t want your credit card to be automatically charged for the annual $79 subscription at the end of the trial period.

15% off for Students & Teachers at The Limited

Comments Off on 15% off for Students & Teachers at The Limited

Educators and students receive a 15% discount at The Limited women’s fashion store.

The discount for teachers and students is valid on purchases made in stores. They don’t exactly shout about it, it’s hidden away in the Frequently Asked Questions on their website under The Limited Promotions, so you have to know to ask for it. Now you know, so ask for it!

You need to take your student or educator ID and the 15% off is only good in stores, not online. It also can’t be combined with other coupons. There’s no expiry date – this is an ongoing promotion.

The Limited in Albuquerque is located in Cottonwood Mall.

Free Haircuts for Kids

August 6, 2012 by

Comments Off on Free Haircuts for Kids

Here are two ways to get a free haircut for kids this month, just in time for back-to-school. If you know of any other kids’ freebies, tell us in the comment box below or drop me an email.

I’ve heard rumor that hair is supposed to grow faster in summer. Whether that’s true or not, these freebies are a snip to save dollars on kids’ haircuts before their bangs grow so long they’re walking into furniture.

Get a free haircut for kids at JCP Salons in the month of August 2012, for children in grades K – 6.  No coupon is needed, just make an appointment in stores or call 855-JCP-KIDS and mention the free haircut deal. (And please remember to tip even though the cut is free! The stylist will love you for it.) In Albuquerque, JCP Salons are in the JC Penney Stores at Cottonwood Mall and Coronado Center.

Underprivileged children can get a free haircut at the Kutz for Kidz Back to School event on August 12, 2012, as well as free school supplies!  (Advance registration required.) The Albuquerque Police Department teams up with local hairdressers to give children a professional free haircut, as well as backpacks, and school supplies. They also give kids a chance to meet law enforcement officers with demonstrations of APD’s Specialized Units. What’s more they’ll serve free drinks and BBQ hamburgers and hotdogs, and host appearances from UFC fighters and local athletes. Good for the APD for putting this together, and to the hairdressers volunteering their time!

Note that you need to register in advance for Kutz for Kidz and the free event is for underprivileged kids and youth. We have no information on what qualifies as underprivileged, or any age limits, but contact information is at their website. Kutz for Kidz is on Sunday August 12 from from 9 am to 6 pm at the APD Training Academy, 5412 2nd Street NW.

A Thrift Town sale to score big savings on new-to-you clothes on July 20.

If you’re looking for a deal on ‘new’ clothes for the kids (or for yourself) I’ve just heard about the
Thrift Town Back to School sale, which gives 50% off all clothing on Friday July 20, 2012.

Sounds like a good opportunity to stock up on summer clothes too for the rest of the season, as we’ve still got a long hot way to go…

As with all Thrift Town sales, the Back to School sale excludes gift cards and already-reduced Color Tag items, plus it also excludes Thrift Town logo gear. I didn’t even know they had logo gear, that must be new? I’ll have to check it out next time I’m in there.
