Comments Off on Free Pancakes at IHOP March 3
On IHOP’s National Pancake Day, IHOP is giving dine-in customers a free short stack of pancakes… no doubt they’ll go like hotcakes! People from around the country will celebrate a “Decade of Giving” with the tenth annual National Pancake Day at IHOP.
So hop on over to your local IHOP on Tuesday March 3, 2015, between 7 am and 10 pm, to claim a short stack of free IHOP pancakes – that’s three buttermilk pancakes. In exchange, consider making a donation to Children’s Miracle Network to support children’s hospitals, or other local charities.
IHOP’s National Pancake Day celebration has raised almost $16 million for charity since it started in 2006. Their goal this year is to raise $3.5 million for charity. Wow!
They’ve given away more than 10 million pancakes in previous years, so make sure three of those cakes have your name written on them in 2015!
The IHOP National Pancake Day offer is limited to one free short stack per person, at participating restaurants for dine-in only while supplies last and is not valid with any other offer, special coupon or discount.
Comments Off on Free Admission to NM Museum of Natural History & Science: March 1
New Mexico residents get in free to The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science on the first Sunday of every month. So the next free admission day is this Sunday March 1, 2015, from 9 am to 5 pm.
This Sunday March 1 between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm, they’ll also have a special event to celebrate the special exhibit “Birds of Paradise.” You’ll be able to meet New Mexico bird experts as well as learn how New Mexico is working to protect our New Mexico birds. Karen Herzenberg, a naturalist who serves on the advisory committee for New Mexico Master Naturalist Program, will share her knowledge about the fascinating Florence Merriam Bailey. Bailey is the author of “Birds Through an Opera Glass” (1889) and “Birds of New Mexico” (1928). The presentation will be geared for children and families from 11:00 to noon. From 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, the presentation will be geared for adults.
You can visit the other museum’s displays for free, including their core exhibits which offer a journey through billions of years of New Mexico’s natural history, from the formation of the universe to the present day. Don’t forget the Naturalist Center room for kids to see specimens and go ‘hands-on’ with exhibits.
To get free admission on the first Sunday of the month, take your New Mexico ID. The free admission day saves $7 per adult (aged 13-59), $6 for seniors aged 60+, and $4 for kids (aged 3-12) on the usual ticket price.
Even with the freebie, you have to pay regular admission if you want to go in to the Lockheed Martin DynaTheater or the Planetarium.
New Mexico resident seniors age 60+ also continue to get free admission every Wednesday to the NM Museum of Natural History and Science.
New Mexico Museum of Natural and Science is located in Albuquerque Old Town at 1801 Mountain Road NW.

Comments Off on Cheap Movies ASUNM Southwest Film Center
I’ve mentioned ASUNM Southwest Film Center before as they sometimes give free movie screenings. Here’s a reminder that even without a freebie, tickets are still a good deal.
ASUNM Southwest Film Center is a student run, independent theater on the University of New Mexico Campus, and movies are open to the public as well as to UNM students and staff.
Ticket prices are $5 for the public, $3 for UNM students, and $4 for UNM faculty and staff. You can also get a $15 student season pass or $20 general season pass.
The current 2015 film season, shown on Thursdays through Sundays, include:
- Telluride Mountain Film Festival (February 13 and 14)
- Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times (February 26-March 1)
- Toy Story (March 26-29) kids get in free with a paying adult
- East of Eden (April 2-5) come celebrate the 60th anniversary of this film
- Birdman (April 16-19)
Movies vary widely and there are many more in the series, I’m just picking out the ones I like the sound of! See the full ASUNM Southwest Film Center schedule.
The ASUNM Southwest Film Center is located on the lower level of UNM’s Student Union Building. Enter from Central Avenue as if going to Popejoy Hall, then go past Popejoy and it’s the next block on the left.
Golfers still have time to save money on City of Albuquerque golf courses in their winter deal until February 28, 2015. Depending on the time you play, you can save up to half on the regular green fees. A dollar a hole? I couldn’t “putt” it better myself…
A quick game of golf on a crisp and sunny Albuquerque afternoon sounds like a perfectly lovely way to get outdoors and enjoy the scenery and a get a bit of post-holidays exercise. At least it sounds lovely to this (very amateur and rusty) player. Even better when you can get a deal on green fees!
The Albuquerque golf course discount offer varies depending on the time you play.
The special offer is $9 for 9 holes if you walk, and $20 for 9 holes if you want 1/2 cart, when you play after 12 pm on weekdays, Monday to Friday. If you want to play after 2 pm on weekdays, Monday to Friday, the special offer is $9 for 9 holes if you walk, and $15 for 9 holes including 1/2 cart.
The winter offer is valid at these four courses:
- Los Altos
- Arroyo del Oso
- Puerto del Sol
The winter golf offer runs until February 28, 2015, on weekdays Monday to Friday only. See you out there!
There’s no delicate way to say this, but… is your pooch peeing on the carpet suddenly? Is your cat going crazy on the furniture or your dog barking so much it drives you and your neighbors nuts? Or does your pet keep breaking out through the fence and you’re worried for his or her safety?
These are often solvable problems if you know what to do. But if you don’t know what to do and you’d like to understand your pet better, you can get free help from Animal Humane New Mexico.
Use their free helpline (505-938-7900) to speak to a trained coach who can help you solve pet behavior problems. If you don’t reach someone immediately, leave a message and someone will get back to you soon. You can also email your questions to them at firstname.lastname@example.org This is a completely free service and it’s wonderful that they offer it. It might even prevent some pets from having to go to shelters when their human is driven to the end of their tether – so pass the word along!
The Animal Humane Behavior free helpline helps with pet issues including separation anxiety, destructive behaviors, escaping, barking, chasing, digging, fearful behavior, housetraining, introducing a new pet to the household where there are already pets, and puppy and kitten development.
I only wish they could provide free trained coaches to deal with Mr Cheap’s behavior problems, but he’d probably say the same about me
Comments Off on Free Movies January 22-25: The Thin Man Series
ABC Library, in partnership with the KiMo Theatre, presents six film adaptations of the The Thin Man book by author Dashiell Hammett. Tickets are not required for these free movies. Screen legends William Powell and Myrna Loy play the characters of Nick and Nora Charles in this comedy-mystery series that was very popular in the late 1930’s and 1940’s. I enjoy watching the fun chemistry between these two mega stars as they solve mysteries. The Thin Man is a fitting subject for this time of year when everyone is going on a diet. After pigging out over the holidays I’m certainly cutting back on the cookies in my aim to become The Thinner Woman!
The Thin Man on Thursday January 22, 2015 from 7 pm at the KiMo Theatre.
After the Thin Man on Friday January 23, 2015 from 8 pm at the KiMo Theatre.
Another Thin Man on Saturday January 24, 2015 from 2 pm at the KiMo Theatre
Shadow of the Thin Man on Saturday January 24, 2015 from 7 pm at the KiMo Theatre
The Thin Man Goes Home on Sunday January 25, 2015 from 2 pm at the KiMo Theatre
Song of the Thin Man on Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 5 pm at the KiMo Theatre
The KiMo Theatre is located at 423 Central Avenue NW (corner of 5th and Central) and there is a large parking facility right behind the Theatre at 5th and Copper.
Comments Off on Starbucks Sweet Receipt $1 Bakery
The Starbucks Sweet Receipt promo will sweeten up these January days if you love cookies, croissants, or brownies. If you do NOT love cookies, croissants, or brownies, then maybe you should return to whichever planet you came from – you took a wrong turn at Mars.
I’ve just heard that the Starbucks Sweet Receipt promo is back as of yesterday. This is similar to the Treat Receipt promo I’ve mentioned at other times, except the Sweet Receipt deal is on Starbucks bakery items.
Until February 2, 2015, customers who make a Starbucks purchase in the morning up until 1:59 p.m (on any day) can mosey on back the same day after 2 pm with their receipt to get any bakery item for $1.
The one buck bakery item deal does not include sandwiches and other items – only baked goods. The Starbucks Sweet Receipt deal is valid at participating locations. No coupon is required to enjoy your afternoon nibble, just remember to return with your Starbucks receipt from that morning. There is no minimum spend needed for the morning receipt.
As far as I recall, you don’t need to go back to the same Starbucks location to claim your $1 bakery sweet treat – any location will do. But you can always check that when you make your morning purchase. The deal runs through February 2, 2015.
NOTE: Not all locations may be participating in the Starbucks Sweet Receipt offer – call ahead if you want to be sure.
