If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to ABQ on the Cheap's RSS feed or email digests. Thanks for visiting!

Dion’s Club Read is a great way to encourage kids to read, because they get FREE gifts in return… and maybe a chance to be Orbit’s guest at Isotopes Park!

The Dion’s Club Read program is for for preschool to 5th grade kids, running till July 17, 2013. The program is a partnership between Dion’s Pizza and the Albuquerque Isotopes, so it has a baseball theme – what’s not to love?

Here’s how it works: Pick up a scorecard brochure at a Dion’s location, or download it from the Dion’s Club Read website. After a child reads any six books of their choice (or it’s fine for parents and teachers to read books to youngsters who are still learning to read) they fill in the scorecard with the name of the books and they’ve hit a home run! The completed scorecard earns the student free gifts and a new scorecard. The child receives a different free gift for each scorecard they fill:

  • The prize for the First Home Run (the first scorecard of six books read) is a free backpack
  • For the Second Home Run (the second scorecard of six books read) the child gets a Dion’s Club Read T-Shirt, a ticket voucher to watch an Isotopes game, a coupon for a free small drink at Isotopes Park, and a new book.  They also get entered into a prize drawing.

The prize drawing is to win tickets to be Orbit’s guest at the Isotopes game on August 23 with four Club Level seat tickets, plus a Dion’s Pizza, a Dion’s $20 gift card, and an autographed baseball. AND the child can make a ceremonial first pitch! How cool is that? If this doesn’t encourage kids to read, then I don’t know what will!

The Dion’s Club Read program is for preschool children through 5th grade, and it runs until Wednesday July 17, 2013.

All the Dion’s locations and details on how the offer works are in the brochure on the Dion’s Club Read webpage.

ABQ Isotopes Valentine Visit from Orbit

If Orbit hears me describe him as the Albuquerque Isotopes ‘mascot’, will he be offended? He’s certainly a larger-then-life character and I don’t want to get on the wrong side of the 300 pounds giant even if he is super-cuddly. ;-)

If you’d like a Valentine’s Visit from Orbit for your home or office, it’ll cost you $70. Whether you consider that a good deal depends on many factors, but it’ll certainly be a novelty that nobody expects at your Valentine’s celebrations!

Orbit will also deliver a Valentine’s Day gift package of a half pound box of chocolates from Buffett’s Candies, a voucher for two Isotopes tickets (Reserved Level), a Valentine’s Day card personalized to the recipient, and you can get your picture taken with Orbit.

It could be fun for an office party – everyone throw in a few bucks to pay for the visit, and then pull a name out of the hat to win the Isotopes tickets and candies.

The visits can be made at various times between February 11 and February 14, 2013, within a 25-mile round trip of Isotopes Park. Obviously there is limited availability on the number of appearances Orbit can make. We don’t want to exhaust the poor chap. Get all the Orbit Valentine visit details and fill in the order form at the Albuquerque Isotopes website.

The 2012 Free Ticket Tuesday dates to eat at El Pinto are:

Albuquerque Isotopes Combo Plan Tickets

February 16, 2012 by

This Albuquerque Isotopes ticket combo plan for the 2012 season hits a home run with savings of 25%.

The Isotopes ticket Combo Plan gives you a package of 16 undated ticket vouchers plus $56 worth of Baseball Bucks to spend on food, drink, and merchandise at Isotopes Park concessions and in the Isotopes Park Pro Shop.

The 16 ticket vouchers can be used any which way you want – 16 baseball buddies all going to one game, or you can go by your own  sweet self to 16 different games. (Wouldn’t that be a bit lonely though? Go on, treat a friend!) Or you can redeem them in any other permutation. The package is good for home games during the 2012 season, including fireworks games, and offers savings of over 25%, with prices varying by seating level:

  • Reserved Level: $197
  • Box Level: $225
  • Club Level: $360

There are quite a few ways to think about the savings on this ‘Topes deal. I’ve tried calculating several of them and have now given myself quite the headache.

For the cheaper Reserved Level tickets, single tickets on the day of the game cost $13.  So 16 x $13 + $56 in Baseball bucks = a package value of $264. At the promo price of $197, you’re saving just over 25%.

Even with advance purchase Reserved Level tickets at $11 each, the 16 tickets alone would tally up to $176, so you’re basically getting $21 worth of Baseball bucks free!

To help you do your own math:

  • Box Level tickets on the day of the game are $15, advance purchase $13. (Giving a total value of $264 – $296 for the package price of $225)
  • Club Level tickets on the day of the game are $25, advance purchase $23. (Giving a total value of $424 – $456 for the package price of $360.)

There’s also an Isotopes ticket combo plan for 22 tickets including the $56 worth of Baseball Bucks. I’m not going to calculate all the savings on those or my brain will combust. They’re good value. ‘Nuff said!

Albuquerque Isotopes Park is located at 1601 Avenida Cesar Chavez SE.

I also noticed the Albuquerque Isotopes Job Fair at 10 am on Saturday February 11 at Isotopes Park, with part-time jobs on game days for the 2012 season ranging from bat boys, ticket takers and ushers, to food services jobs. Application forms are at the link.

If you know of any other Albuquerque job fairs, tell us about it! We’re happy to share ways to help earn money (with reputable businesses) as well as ways to spend it!

If you’re ready for a summer ballgame, here are some ways to score easy-on-the-budget deals to take family or friends to Isotopes Park with BOGO free baseball ticket promotions.

KRAFT Singles Tuesday Night Tickets: Take a KRAFT Singles package wrapper to the ballpark box office, buy one Reserved Level ticket for a Tuesday home game, and get one Reserved Level ticket free with the KRAFT Singles Tuesday Night Tickets promotion.  (It’s nothing to do with being single yourself - it’s all about the cheese. )

El Pinto Isotopes BOGO free tickets: Save your El Pinto jar lids!  Take the lid of any El Pinto product (salsa, sauces) to get a buy-one-get-one-free deal on tickets to any Isotope home game on Monday to Thursday. Valid on all price level tickets.

National Honey Board offer: Take a grocery receipt to prove you’ve made a honey purchase to get the BOGO free deal on games played on Monday or Wednesday.  Or use the receipt to get 10% off team merchandise on any day at the Isotopes Pro Shop.

This offer is only valid on the specified dates. I’d choose standard mail for free delivery, mailed to you in 10 to 14 days. The next cheapest delivery option is $2.50 to print your tickets out yourself. (I really don’t get that. Pay extra to use your own ink and paper? But I guess if you book near the game date, it’s your best option.) If you have a coupon you can also redeem it at the Isotopes Park Box Office.

Albuquerque Journal Press Pass: Members with an ABQ Journal Press Pass card get their BOGO free tickets  in all price levels for Sunday home games. Buy the tickets at ABQJournal.com from the Monday before the game, but note that the ticket offer is not available on the day of the game.
