Comments Off on Mommy’s Market Consignment Sale & 50% Off Presale Pass
Albuquerque children’s consignment sale for spring– you can’t consign the kids, but you might pick up a bargain! Plus 50% off presale passes to shop before the show, available for a limited time…
Change of season, change of clothes… but kids are changing all the time. (Did ya notice?)
The Albuquerque Mommy’s Market spring consignment sale on March 2-3, 2012 could be just the place to find gently used kids’ clothing and save a few bucks on dressing the offspring both for the new season and their new size. Plus the sale includes maternity wear, children’s furniture, toys, and equipment for moms, kids and babies.
Right now there’s a limited time deal for 50% off a presale ticket for $5 instead of the regular $10, to get early access to the bargains on March 1 from 7 – 9 pm, before the main event opens. The offer is only via Living Social, not at the Mommy’s Market website, and it’s also available for the Santa Fe Mommy’s Market presale in May.
Otherwise, the Albuquerque Mommy’s Market admission pricing is:
- $1 on Friday March 2 – assuming you find even one thing to buy you’ll save that dollar many times over.
- Admission is free on the morning of Saturday March 3, when they clear many remaining items at half price.
Judging by the guidelines for sellers, Mommy’s Market has pretty high standards and sale items must be in good shape and washed prior to the event, so it shouldn’t be a game of ‘spot-the-rip’. Just a game of ‘grab the bargain’.
- When: Friday March 2, 2012
- Time: 9 am – 7 pm
Half Price Sale on Saturday March 3, from 9 am – 1 pm.
Where: Berean Gym, 3800 Eubank Blvd NE.
- Price: $1 admission Friday / Free on Saturday
If you want to sell children’s items yourself, the last day to sign up as a seller is February 24.

Comments Off on New Mexico Magazine Gift Shop 20% Off
Thanks to New Mexico magazine for letting us know about their current gift shop deal, with a promo code for a 20% discount (even on sale items) until February 5, 2012.
Get 20% off New Mexico magazine gift shop items when you enter the promo code: BDO019WWPE2C
Yeah, you’re going to have to copy/paste that coupon code because you won’t remember it unless you have a photographic memory.
Items in the gift shop include New Mexico themed home decor, candles, bath and body products, kitchen gifts and food, cards, posters, holiday items, New Mexico cookbooks, and books on New Mexico art, history, and culture.
Two of my favorite books in the gift shop are Santa Fe Flavors: Best Restaurants and Recipes by Anne Hillerman ($8.99 before the 20% discount) and New Mexico’s Tasty Traditions: Recollections, Recipes and Photos by Sharon Niederman ($27.95 before the 20% discount). I wrote a review of Neiderman’s book last year for Local Flavor magazine, if you want to find out more about it!
The promo code even works on the sale items I tested, such as the Enchanting New Mexico Calendar: Celebrating 100 Years of Statehood. The NM centennial calendar, featuring paintings by Ronald Kil and an introduction by the wonderful Southwestern author Marc Simmons, was already reduced to half price. With the extra 20% off it’s now $5.58.
Shipping is extra, and it looks as if you can order and have a gift shipped to another recipient.
The NM Magazine gift shop 20% discount using promo code: BDO019WWPE2C runs until February 5.
New Mexico magazine is the state magazine, and as far as I can see you can’t use the promo code for magazine subscriptions, but you can get 20% off the current issue and back issues.
We’re wrapping up for the year here at ABQ on the Cheap… and I mean that quite literally. I have all my gifts to wrap yet! So we’ll be back in the New Year, unless I spot a super special deal in the meantime that I can’t resist sharing!
Thanks to you fantastic readers for hanging out with us here at ABQ on the Cheap, and thanks especially to everyone who took the time to comment or send a message. I love receiving your emails with deal tips or just a few friendly words. Speaking of which, a happy holiday shout-out to reader Todd who sent such a sweet note, my mascara ran.
Till we return after the hols, here are a few last-minute seasonal items, and I wish you and yours a very joyful holiday and a wonderful New Year. After all, the best freebie any of us can have is the love of our friends and family – enjoy!
Send kids of all ages a free personalized video or phone call from Santa, with details tailored to the recipient, for Christmas, Hannukah, or Kwanzaa. This is quite a hoot, I’m making a video to send to Mr Cheap and to some of the YOUNGER kids in my family.
You can also track Santa’s progess from the North Pole and play holiday games in the Kids’ Countdown Village. I’ve been watching Santa’s progress but it seems he hasn’t started on his holiday rounds yet. I know the feeling. You can also track Santa in Spanish.
Paula Deen’s Holiday Hosting Guide is a free recipe and holiday eBook with cooking and hosting tips, including edible gifts, table decorations and ornaments to make – plus some that are easy for kids. There’s a lot of good advice and holiday ideas packed in the 36 page PDF, and free recipes include Christmas Morning Casserole.
These New Mexico Holiday Free Recipes for tamales, posole, empanadas and biscochitos from the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau might also come in handy. The recipes are from Flying Star Cafe, Jane Butel, and other feastly locals!
If you’d rather buy your hand-made treats Golden Crown Panaderia biscochitos cost $3.95 a dozen, which seems an excellent deal to me. They’ve made over 47,000 cookies in the last couple of days, according to an email, so there should be some left for you. Or try their cappuccino, chocolate, sugar-free and gluten-free biscochitos at $4.95 a dozen, although specialty varieties may need an advance order. (Like pronto.)
FELIZ NAVIDAD! We’ll be back with more Albuquerque freebies, discounts, and deals in 2012.
Comments Off on Albuquerque Aquarium Sleep with the Sharks
ABQ BioPark Aquarium overnight events always sound great to me, although I’ve spent more time trying to avoid sharks than cozy up for the night with them.
The ABQ BioPark Aquarium sleepovers for all the family include activities such as games and crafts with supplies provided, and everyone visits the touchpool and can watch sea-themed movies in the theater. They also tell you all about the underwater critters and their night-time habits.
The next Aquarium Overnight is on January 20 , 2012.
The noctural adventure isn’t dirt cheap, but at $30 per person I think it’s a pretty good deal for such an unusual experience, and makes a great treat for kids – maybe for a birthday or other celebration. (And hey, it’s educational!)
Events start at 7 pm on the Friday night, and finish at 8 am on the Saturday morning – just in time to go get fish tacos or lox and bagels for breakfast
Registrations must be made well in advance as space is naturally limited – which is why we’re reminding you now so you can book in good time. An adult has to attend the sleepover with any children aged under 18. (Yeah, I know. You were just thinking about your next date night or wedding anniversary celebration and thinking “Geeze, 30 bucks overnight is cheaper than a baby-sitter!” Sorry, it doesn’t work like that.)
The next ABQ BioPark Aquarium sleepovers for the new year are:
- January 20 – 21, 2012
- February 17 – 18, 2012
- March 16 – 17, 2012
For all the details and to book a space call (505) 848-7180.
And let’s hope the sharks don’t snore…
Albuquerque BioPark Aquarium is located at 2601 Central Avenue NW.
Comments Off on Albuquerque Airport Parking Coupons
If there’s one thing I hate, it’s paying top dollar to park my car. What am I talking about? I hate paying top dollar for anything – ha!
Well cheapskates, here are two Albuquerque Airport parking lots with deals and discount coupons to park just minutes away from Albuquerque International Sunport if you’re taking a trip out of town… perhaps to visit family for the holidays.
Park and Shuttle coupons include:
- First day free when you park for three days or more
- $1 off the daily rate coupon
- $2 off the daily rate for long term parking, if you park for 14 days or more
Park and Shuttle is located at 2909 Yale Boulevard SE, just south of the Gibson intersection. You can only use one coupon per visit, so obviously work out which is the best deal for you according to how long you’re parking. I don’t see any expiry date on these deals, but if you’re reading this in some future time warp, just check the current Park and Shuttle coupons.
Albuquerque Airport Parking on University Boulevard just south of Sunport Boulevard offers three parking deals:
- One Day Free Parking coupon with a minimum two day stay, valid through 2012.
- Frequent parking rewards program to receive a certificate for up to 7 days of free airport parking when you notch up 10 points. You get 1 point per visit, plus 3 free points just for joining the program, plus a bonus point on your birthday!
- Deployed military park free – you need to contact them in advance and show proof of deployment.
This lot’s official address is 1501 Aircraft Avenue SE, and it’s just opposite the turn off to the handy airport post office on George Road that I often use if I’m in that area, as there are never any lines!
Shuttles run very frequently between both these airport parking facilities and Albuquerque International Sunport.
Comments Off on Santa Fe and Taos Getaway Deals on Lodging
Santa Fe and Taos lodging deals if you fancy a break away or a ski trip, including 50% off and a third night free deal. Some are available for a limited time only, to book ahead for 2012 stays.
Get 50% off the Bobcat Inn in the Santa Fe foothills at $191 (usually $383) for a two night stay for two people including gourmet breakfasts, a chile and chocolate basket, and a bouquet of six roses. I haven’t stayed at the Bobcat although I’ve heard very good things about it, and it looks like a lovely spot for a relaxing break, soaking up the views and hiking the trails, about 8 miles outside Santa Fe. The offer via Groupon is available to purchase now for a limited time, then stay from January 2 through April 30, 2102. You can buy two deals if you want to stretch your stay to four nights. Other Groupon Getaways include Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Fiji, Florida, Niagara Falls, Reno, and Lake Tahoe.
To stay in central Santa Fe, get over 50% off the Luxx Plaza Hotel for a one night stay for two at $69 (usually $159) in a standard suite on Sunday through Thursday nights. For a Friday or Saturday night stay the discount price is $89. The boutique hotel is two blocks from Santa Fe Plaza, and the offer via Living Social is available now for stays through April 30, 2012, excluding certain holiday dates. You can get the deal to stay on those holiday dates but the price goes up to $149, which is probably still a good price for those peak times, but obviously not quite such a bargain! Other discounted Living Social Escapes include Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Florida, California, New York, Fiji, and Mexico.
At the Taos Inn, in (you guessed it) Taos, they’re offering a Taos Inn third night free deal to celebrate their 75th anniversary. So when you pay regular rates for two nights, the third consecutive night is free! The historic Taos Inn is right in the heart of Taos, and a great base to explore from, with a comfy bar, the very good Doc Martin’s restaurant, and live music every night. The Taos Inn lodging deal page says the offer is valid through the end of April 2012 excluding holidays, but from a recent conversation with the manager, I have the impression that if you book early enough, the offer *might* be extended for later dates in 2012. No guarantees on that, but it can’t hurt to ask if you want to stay later in the year, call the Taos Inn at 888 518 8267.
–Tania FYI – I’ve given my Groupon and Living Social affiliate links for those deals. To help support ABQ on the Cheap (it doesn’t cost you anything), please use the links. Thanks!
Comments Off on Discount Golf Lessons at Twin Warriors and Santa Ana
These discounted golf lesson packages could make a great gift for the golfer in your life – available for purchase to December 31.
I always like giving people unforgettable experiences for Christmas, and I’m not talking about the lunch disaster when I forget to defrost the turkey.
So these golf instruction deals at Twin Warriors and Santa Ana caught my eye. They could be a hole in one if you’ve got a golfer to buy for, or you like hitting the greens yourself. The discounted packages are with Sandy Lemon, the Director of Golf Instruction at both clubs, and there’s a range of prices to suit all pockets.
- $15 off three one-hour group clinics – usually $60, now $45
- $15 off a 30 minute lesson followed by an hour on the Santa Ana or Twin Warriors course (usually $125, now $110)
- $20 off a two-hour introductory lesson covering Golf terms, rules, and course etiquette; golf equipment and basics of set up, short game, and full swing – usually $160, now $140.
Other golf discounts include a couples package, and lessons for swing and short game with Sandy Lemon.
They’re available to buy till December 31, 2011, then the gift must be redeemed by the end of December 2012.
Expect to pay $1 for shipping – I guess they send you or the gift recipient a certificate.
Find out more about Sandy Lemon here – she’s got a very impressive golfing bio and is Director of Instruction for Twin Warriors Golf Club at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa, and also for the Santa Ana Golf Club.
Comments Off on Sipapu Ski Resort Free Lodging and Lift Ticket Deals
Sipapu Ski Resort offers a bunch of freebies and deals to lure skiers and snowboarders on to the slopes at the family-friendly resort during the 2011-2012 season. Update: links have been removed as these offers are now finished. See the latest ski deals and freebies at Sipapu for January to April 2013.
For one, you can score FREE lodging as Sipapu brings back one of its most popular promotions. Buy a $44 lift ticket and get one night’s free lodging. You and up to three ski buddies can get a free room with two queen beds at Sipapu’s motel, located mere yards from the base of the lifts. The other three people can be non-skiers too, as the free room only requires the purchase of one lift ticket. The offer is good on specific dates through the season, so see the Sipapu free motel dates for details.
Sipapu skiers can also get free lodging in Taos at the Sagebrush Inn, El Pueblo Lodge, Quality Inn, or Indian Hills Inn, or free lodging in Las Vegas, NM at the Super 8. Both of these offers require a minimum purchase of two $44 adult lift tickets. They run throughout the season with some date restrictions, check the deal links for valid dates and details.
Car Load Days Deal Everyone in one car skis for $50 on January 4, 11, 18, and 25, plus later dates in February through April. You can pack up to 6 skiers in one vehicle and get this deal – that’s under 10 bucks per person. But you must mention the Car Load Days Deal when collecting your lift tickets.
Two for One Tuesdays From January 3, 2012, buy a full price lift ticket and get one lift ticket free on Tuesdays. As far as I can see, this offer runs every Tuesday from January 3 to February 28, and then for one day on March 20, but check the dates at the link in case they change!
On Parents Ski Free Week from January 7-13, 2012, a parent gets a free lift ticket with the purchase of a teen or child full price lift ticket.
A host of other Sipapu ski deals through the season make me wonder if anyone will pay full price!
- Kids ski free aged 6 and under every day with proof of age
- Fourth Graders ski free every day with proof such as a current report card
- Active Military ski free every day with military ID. There are some blackout dates – see the link
- 40 Year Olds ski free every day – gotta love that one. If you’re forty, you ski or ride free with proof of age
- 60 Year Olds ski free every day this season, to celebrate Sipapu’s 60th anniversary. You must be exactly 60, with proof of age.
- Free lift ticket for skiers aged 70+ every day with proof of age
- Free ski or snowboard lesson for first timers aged 7+ with the purchase of a full price lift ticket.
You need to mention the relevant offer when you turn up, ‘cos, like, they’re not mind-readers.
You’ll want to know what the skiing is like before making plans, so check out the Sipapu snow report.
Sipapu is about a 2.5 hour drive from Albuquerque via Santa Fe, 20 miles southeast of Taos. Get directions to Sipapu Ski Resort.
