Amex gives a $25 credit during Small Business Saturday, but you have to register early.

Small Business Saturday is on Saturday November 24, 2012, aimed at encouraging consumers to support local businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We like that!

If you’re an American Express card holder, you can get a free $25 AMEX credit for Small Business Saturday. First you have to register your AmEx card at the link once registration opens on November 18. Then when you spend $25 or more at a qualifying small business using that card on November 24, you’ll receive a $25 credit on your AmEx statement. In other word, you get $25 worth of free spending.

Registration won’t open till November 18 (at 12 a.m. Mountain Time to be precise) but I’m giving you the heads-up so you can register your card early. AmEx is taking a limited number of applications for the free $25 credit, so you’ll need to act fast as they’re promoting the AmEx Small Business Saturday deal nationally.

On the Small Business Saturday page you can also find qualifying places to shop or spend in Albuquerque to earn the $25 statement credit.  They’re all independently owned and operated business, excluding franchises and large or national chain stores. And obviously all qualifying merchants accept the American Express card.

The $25 spend to receive the credit must be in one transaction of $25 or more. It can be for multiple items adding up to $25 but it must be in one transaction. The $25 credit should appear on statements within eight weeks of the purchase going through to American Express.

I took advantage of this deal last year and it was a great way to support a small business and get 25 bucks back.

If you’re an Albuquerque business taking part in Small Business Saturday with special promotions, deals, or events on November 24, tell us about it. In any event, Small Business Saturday is a great idea to bear in mind if you’re heading out to shop on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Hold some of your dollars back on Black Friday!
