Albuquerque Old Town Valentine Celebration

The Albuquerque Old Town Amor y Más event takes place this Saturday February 9, 2013, from noon till 5 pm. I recall this used to be called the Old Town Sweetheart Stroll but whatever they’re dubbing it these days, get your romance pants on.

Amor y Más offers an afternoon of live entertainment and romantic music, and free horse carriage rides from 2 – 5 pm from Old Town Plaza to the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History. Other Valentine’s fun includes a Puppy Love Kissing Booth and a $14 dog adoption special by Animal Welfare for dogs aged 4 years and older; a free photo booth to take home a memento, and actors performing Shakespearean love scenes.

If you’re feeling completely carried away, you can even get hitched with a free walk-up wedding by A Celebration of Love Wedding Chapel. They’ll have six ordained ministers present and the county clerk to issue marriage certificates. I gather Elvis may feature somewhere in this nuptial frenzy.

At 3 pm there’s also a free group wedding and a renewal of vows for couples who are already married, and at 4 pm an Interfaith Blessing of Love and Devotion for everyone who wants to join the non-denominational blessing at the Gazebo.

Expect some sweet discounts and deals too. For example, Treasure House Books & Gifts is promoting an offer to buy three books and get a fourth book free, and Bright Rain Gallery is giving 20% off anything in the gallery that contains the color red. If you know of an Old Town Amor y Más deal, let us know in the comments box below!

The most recent schedule I’ve received of  live entertainment in the Old Town Plaza on February 9 is:

  • 12 noon: The popular Native American singer Shelly Morningsong, winner of awards including the New Mexico Music Award for Best Native Contemporary Music and the Native American Music Awards for Debut Artist of the Year.
  • 12:30 pm: Shakespeare On Site
  • 1 pm: Trio Latino with romantic music from the 1950s
  • 1:45 pm: Shakespeare On Site
  • 2:20 pm: Angelo Pagliocco, who has apparently played for bigwigs including Governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney and the late Senator Ted Kennedy. Pagliocco is inspired by the romantic music of “Rat Pack” performers such as Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.
  • 3:15 pm: Shakespeare On Site
  • 4 pm: The instrumentalist group Alma plays romantic jazz.
