College students are always trying to find ways to save money, so it’s good news to hear that the Albuquerque Free Bus Pass program by ABQ Ride continues for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Students, faculty, and staff of University of New Mexico and the University of New Mexico Hospital, and students at Central New Mexico Community College can ride Albuquerque buses absolutely free.

Free bus passes are available to any qualifying students or faculty, but you must get a sticker on your student or staff ID to take advantage of the freebie.

UNM and CNM students qualify for the free sticker if you are currently enrolled at either of the schools. Be prepared to prove that you are a current student by taking your student ID and a copy of your current class schedule when you pick up your sticker.

Stickers for the last (2011-2012) academic year are only valid until August 31 for UNM and until September 3 for CNM, so if you plan on using ABQ Ride services, make sure you pick up the new one.

The bus passes work on all Albuquerque public buses including the Rapid Ride, but may not be valid for special city events. Even if you don’t use public transportation often, it never hurts to be prepared with a free bus pass in your pocket!
