If you’re looking for a new pet, these adoption events might give paws for thought…

It’s National Pet Adoption weekend through Sunday September 11, 2011, at Petsmart (10248 Coors Bypass NW). Albuquerque Animal Welfare will be on site with dogs and cats to adopt, and adoptions include spay and neuter, a pet microchip, and vaccinations. Dog adoption fees generally range from $40 to $60, and cat adoptions from $20 to $40, depending on their age. Seniors aged 50+ and veterans receive a $10 discount (don’t forget to take your ID). The pet adoptions takes place on Saturday September 10 from 10 am – 5 pm, and on Sunday September 11 from 10 am – 4 pm.

Dog Speed Dating Adoption event next Saturday September 17 aims to introduct pooches to new owners. The mind slightly boggles. Are they barking mad? But hey, if it helps a dog find a new home… The Dog Speed Dating Adoption promises discounted adoption fees, door prizes, and advice on training, all at the Eastside Animal Welfare Shelter (8920 Lomas Blvd NE) on September 17, from noon to 4 pm.

And if you already have a dog, don’t forget the 2 Million Dogs Puppy Up! New Mexico Walk we posted about before.  You save $5 if you register by September 22.
