We heart the national park system. It’s one of America’s treasures. And, starting this weekend, you can get into many parks FREE of charge!

As you probably know, many national parks charge an entry fee. For three weekends this summer, however, the National Park Service is opening up access by waiving entry fees. The free weekends are:

  • June 20-21
  • July 18-19
  • August 15-16

Included in the list of national parks in New Mexico that will be free are:

  • Aztec Ruins National Monument
  • Bandelier National Monument
  • Carlsbad Caverns National Park
  • Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument
  • White Sands National Monument

And that’s just a partial list!

The national parks offer a ton of fun for families. Besides just being fabulous natural wonders, most parks also offer lots of special events and fun things to do.

New Mexico boasts 14 national parks and monuments, plus 4 national trails. Many of them never charge an entrance fee, so you can get out and enjoy them on any weekend, not just the three special ones above.

So pick your park and get out into nature this weekend. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, water, and a jacket. And if you head off hiking, make sure someone knows where you’re going and when you plan to be back. Safety first!
