If you love horses, you won’t want to miss the Zia Classic Arabian Show, which starts today and runs through Sunday at EXPO New Mexico. At this judged event, you’ll be able to see Arabian horse owners from all over the country compete in such classes as:

  • Dressage
  • Carriage driving
  • Reining
  • Western pleasure riding
  • Showmanship at halter
  • Working hunter (i.e.: jumping)
  • Country English pleasure

And much more! And all of this is FREE for spectators! Thanks to loyal fan Jenifer for tipping us off to this!

To get a rough idea of the schedule of events, view this program (scroll down to about page 11 of the PDF). Times are not given, but events begin in the morning and run into the evening. For example, the dressage championship starts around 6:00pm on Sunday, May 10.

The Zia Classic provides you with the opportunity to enjoy the full pageantry of an Arabian horse show — and if you’ve never seen a horse show before, this would be a great one to begin with! Be sure to take the kids.

Note: While the event itself is free to the public, expect a $4 parking charge at EXPO New Mexico.

When: Thursday, May 7, through Sunday, May 10 (2009) from mid-morning through evening

Where: Horsemen’s Arena at EXPO New Mexico, 300 San Pedro NE, Albuquerque
