Free, COOL Public Art Project

What a creative idea. If you love the idea of art colliding in creative ways with everyday life, this event is going to rock your world.

El Otro Lado: The Other Side is a community based public art project in Albuquerque and Santa Fe developed by artist Chrissie Orr, focusing on the themes of migration, boundaries and sense of place. The “migration” aspect is particularly relevant to the Albuquerque installation because…it consists of art panels installed on D-Ride buses.

That’s right: to view this art project, you simply hop aboard any of the free buses that loop around downtown Albuquerque, view the panels, then call 505-515-0032 to access audio storytelling relating to each panel. How cool is that?!

The Albuquerque installation, titled Land/Art, explores themes relating to agriculture, wilderness, community, sustainability, and the environment. The panels were created by a group that crosses generational and cultural boundaries. The participants are not professional artists but community members — each exploring the question “Who am I?”

The D-Ride installation will run (literally!) through August (2009). D-Ride buses run each day from 6:30am – 7:00pm.
