Get a free comicFree Comic Book Day is baaaack!

On Saturday May 5, 2012, zoom into any participating comic book store and walk out with a FREE comic!  (Possibly more – retailers vary on how many free comics they’ll give away, but you’re guaranteed at least one.)

In Albuquerque, a slew of comic book shops are taking part, including Astro-Zombies, Lobo Anime & Comics, Tall Tales Comics & Novelties, Old West Comics and Games, Don’s Paperback Books, and Hastings Entertainment.

Use the Free Comic Book Day store locator to find the store nearest you.

Some shops may also host special events. For example, at Lobo Anime & Comics the celebrations include Andy Khun signing autographs and doing sketches, a sidewalk sale, and a costume contest for adults and kids.  Lobo Anime & Comics will open at 11 am, at 1016 Juan Tabo Boulevard NE.

Comic artist Aaron Campbell (The Dark Shadow, Green Hornet, and Sherlock Holmes) will be at
Astro-Zombies for signings and to meet the crowd, as will Matt Frank (Godzilla Kingdom of Monsters) & S. Steven Struble (Lil Depressed Boy).  Events start at 11 am at 3100 Central Avenue SE, and they’ll also have a sidewalk sale.

It might be wise to arrive earlier rather than later at stores, in case all the freebies run out!

PLUS, if you’re a true comic book aficionado (which to me means knowing your Toy Story from your Iron Man – go on, laugh at me) you can also read Free Comic Book Day’s exclusive online interviews with comic book artists, writers, and editors.

This free comic giveaway event takes place just once a year, on the first Saturday in May. And no, I’m not going to make a joke about Holy Free Comic Book Day, Batman! That would be beneath me.
