Free Amazon Prime 2-Day Shipping for College Students
If you need your text books or anything else in a hurry, the Amazon Prime service includes free two-day shipping for speedy delivery, with no minimum order. The service usually costs $79 a year, but college students joining this free Amazon Student membership program get free Amazon Prime for six months. Students signing up for the program by October 15, 2013, are also entered into a drawing to win $30,000 in cash.
Other Amazon Student membership benefits include student discounts and news on offers, giveaways, and promotions especially for students. It’s free to sign up for Amazon Student with free Amazon Prime, you just need to verify that you’re a current student at a college or university by providing a .edu email address. Once that .edu address is verified, use any email you choose to manage your Amazon account.
The free Amazon Prime offer does not include movie streaming, nor the Kindle Owners Lending Library to borrow books. At the end of the free six months, members are switched to a discounted Amazon Prime membership costing $39 a year – which is still a saving on the regular $79 rate, and this does include video streaming and the Kindle library. If you don’t want to be automatically upgraded, make sure you select the “do not upgrade” option during your free six months.
See all the terms, details, and benefits of the free Amazon Prime Student deal, which you can also use to order products other than books – perhaps all the kitchen stuff or electronics you’ll need to kit out your new student digs. As long as they item is eligible for Amazon Prime shipping, you’re good to go.
Existing Amazon Prime members (who are students) can still register for Amazon Student, and get a refund on the remainder of their subscription.
I’d always encourage you to support your local independent bookstore such as Bookworks and Page One, or, of course, the University of New Mexico Bookstore if you study at UNM. But if you buy online anyway, this is a great way to save on shipping costs, especially if you need your books in a rush because you’ve left your studying till the last minute (Tsk tsk! Yeah, I know, we’ve all done it…)
NOT A STUDENT AND WANT TO TRY FREE AMAZON PRIME?
Everyone else can still try Amazon Prime with a free one month trial. The free month trial includes unlimited instant video streaming of movies and TV shows. Be sure to cancel your subscription before the free trial ends or select “do not upgrade” once you’re registered for the freebie, if you don’t want your credit card to be automatically charged for the annual $79 subscription at the end of the trial period.
