Free Admission: Corbin Hayes Memorial Flag Football Tournament

What a wonderful event to honor the memory of a fine young man, Corbin Hayes, who tragically drowned earlier this summer. This is a wonderful, positive tribute to Corbin, and a darn fun event to watch or take part in.

If you want to participate in this no-contact flag football event, register your team for just $100! The fee was recently reduced by organizers from the original $180, giving you nearly 50% off. Go to the Rio Rancho Flag Football site’s registration page to sign up. Registration ends Thursday, July 2 (2009), so hurry!

Or, if you’d rather just watch, spectator admission is FREE! This event includes way more than just flag football. Enjoy a carnival, water activities for the kids, food vendors, and more. In short, it’s very family-friendly.

Lastly, you’ll have the opportunity to see star NFL quarterback Vince Young of the Tennessee Titans! He’s scheduled to give a talk and sign autographs at Rio Rancho High School on July 2. No details yet on price of admission. Check the RRFF site frequently for updates, if you’re interested!

After the games on Saturday, July 4, all spectators are invited to stay and watch the spectacular City of Rio Rancho fireworks display from “the best seats in town” — Rio Rancho HS stadium. It’s free, natch!

Expect to pay $5 per car per day for parking. Frankly, the parking issue is confusing. The website states Saturday and Sunday parking will be $5, and that a “weekend parking pass” is available for $10. You do the math there. However, the event actually begins Friday night. So, will there be no parking fee assessed Friday night? It’s anybody’s guess.

On-site registration begins Friday, July 3, 2:00pm, at Rio Rancho High School, with the first games played that evening, beginning at 7:30pm. Saturday and Sunday games begin at 8:30am.

For more info on what to expect at this event, check out the, er, “What to Expect” page.

Rio Rancho High School is located at 301 Loma Colorado St NE.
