Cinco de Mayo deals & events

No doubt there are hundreds of Cinco de Mayo parties and events occurring in Albuquerque in 2009. Here are a few of our faves:

  • Free dance: Noches de Baile, 6:30pm, National Hispanic Cultural Center PNM Rehearsal Hall. Intensive courses in Casino, Mambo, Salsa, or Cha-Cha every Tuesday evening through May 26. All ages. After the lessons, a dance party — natch!
  • Free concert/educational event: Cantando la Cultura, 7:00pm, National Hispanic Cultural Center Wells Fargo Auditorium. Musicians will teach their favorite songs from Mexico and Latin America and tell about the history of the songs, as well. Sort of a great big sing-along for all ages!
  • Five-cent appetizers: T.G.I.Friday’s, near Cottonwood Mall, 4:00 – 7:00pm. With the purchase of any bar beverage, get your choice of 5¢ appetizers: Crispy Green Bean Fries, Fried Mozzarella, BBQ Pork Ravioli Bites, Pot Stickers, Loaded Potato Skins (half order). Because, you know, pot stickers really capture the Cinco de Mayo spirit. </snark>
  • $5 Quesadilla Burgers, half-price appetizers, and FREE chips & salsa: Applebee’s, all 8 locations in Albuquerque & Rio Rancho.
  • Free reusable  bag: Whole Foods Market Academy location, all day. Free food samples all day, a piñata decorating contest, and pick your favorite sombrero-wearing team member for a free reusable grocery sack.
  • Cheap snacks: Cost Plus World Market’s 2-for$5 sale. Mix and match tortilla chips, salsa, and margarita mix. Plus, cheap beer (six-pack of Coronitas for $4.99) and cool margarita glasses for $7.99. Thru 5/5/09 only!

Send us your pix of Cinco de Mayo! We want to see you in a cheap sombrero!
