Thanks to reader Anara for this tip!

This is why we live Out West. Because the West proudly carries its “Wild” heritage with it every day. And nothing says “Wild West” like cowboys slinging guns.

Well, here’s your chance to see some six-shootin’ action! Use this coupon for $2 off admission to the 28th Annual End of the Trail Wild West Jubilee, featuring the World Championship of Cowboy Action Shooting, held Thursday, June 25 (2009) through Saturday, June 27, from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day.

This event is waaay more than just watching some guys plink away at targets with their weapons. For a mere $6 (kids under age 12 are FREE), you’ll enjoy family friendly entertainment like:

  • A living history encampment spread out over 100 acres
  • Continuous live musical entertainment
  • Educational seminars
  • Stagecoach and buggy rides
  • Equestrian events
  • Gunfighter stunt shows
  • Trick roping
  • Chuckwagon cooking competition
  • Over 100 vendor booths, with antiques, cowboy gear, Old West merchandise, arts & crafts, food

…and much, much more! Plus, of course, there’s the event’s centerpiece: the World Championship of Cowboy Action Shooting. Sponsored by the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS), this event includes more than 1,000 authentically dressed competitors using authentic or replica period firearms to participate in fantasy scenarios based on historical events, western movies, and western TV series. Sounds fantastic!

There are some interesting special rules for spectators at this event. One: you must wear eye protection (e.g.: sunglasses) in the shooting areas. Two: hearing protection is encouraged and will be available on site. (Ed. note: please protect your children’s hearing at this event! You can obtain very inexpensive earplugs at any discount store.) Also, dogs are not permitted other than service dogs.

Tickets at the gate will be $8, and parking costs $2 per vehicle.

This Wild West extravaganza is held at Founders Ranch in Edgewood, NM.

Been there and it is fun if you are a shooter or interested in the old west. However, most people can’t see the action shooting unless they are participants due to distances and barriers. That leave them to shop at various vendors or to see the various “shows” which have chnaged very little over the years. If you have never been, go. If you have been, stay home or join in the action by shooting. Just my viewpoint.
